@Schparko ah well, you cant please everybody. (actually i agree with you), but this was only meant to be a quick and easy way to record a 10 minute lecture.
The simple answer is no. but the more complicated answer is : - some people mistakenly refer to the big beige box that all their computer bits are incased in as the CPU, and yes you will find RAM in the box. but in this you tube video we are talking about the functional components we might find on the motherboard. it is also true that in modern PCs they have put cache memory in the CPU - but in simplest terms the RAM memory is a separate functional block
@thenamesmikeye01 - what we now refer to as the chipset was added quite early in PC development. We started to see VLSI ( very large scale integration) chips in the IBM AT ( 286) and the 386. It was done mainly to cut costs I expect - but the 2nd benefit was that it also provided better performance.
@thenamesmikeye01 - this video was an experiment - Microsoft Powerpoint allows you to record an audio track. while you work through the slides. but you have to do it in one take - there are no audio editing tools. I elected not to read from notes as this usually comes across as stilted. I cant remember if I had cheat notes ( eg headings or not ) . check out the videos by commoncraft - they are experts in you tube learning vids.
The main definition of von neumann-architecture is the storage of data AND instructions together in a common Memory. You describe the "von Neumann computer".
Something I dont know if you've done this before obviously but, there's also a few things I'd like to see someone try to explain are Instruction registers and the various parts of the CU (control unit really just the CPU), thats how its defined in some diagrams.
What I have been looking at is assembly language, most if not all the systems drivers in a modern operating syste must have drivers (in Linux their called modules), but they will have been written in assembly, its got a faster execution

ok I get it now memory bus is data and address bus
ghanmy 8 months ago
there is also memory bus right?
ghanmy 8 months ago
so when you move the mouse how does data bus, address bus ,cpu, or control unit are involved in this?
ghanmy 11 months ago
isnt RAM is part of CPU?

You are quite right. This presentation was put together for a hardware class.- hence the focus on that part of Von Neumann architecture

I studied this, but really memory now is reffered to as modules, as I bet you'll probably know.
Had to do this as part of my degree in Leeds.
Just wanted to see what people have said about him and came across this video, very well done though I must say.
