While I now think it likely that Simpson was guilty, I watched nearly every minute of that trial at the time and can say that the prosecution lost the jury with the very first witness, the lead police officer at the scene, when he flat-out lied under oath and had several hours of "missing time" with the "evidence" that he took with home with him. The police in L.A. had a bad reputation for planting evidence on people, so their credibility locally was ZERO! The police blew the case!

The blood I'm talking about was specifically the blood found on the socks. The preservative could only be in that blood if a crooked LA cop planted it. They're caught. Crazy, and as cheap of a flimsy excuse as this sounds, OJ was at the scene and did get blood on him, but he didn't do the murders. While blood from the scene is highly incriminating, it isn't strict proof that OJ did the actual killing. OJ had blood on him from the scene because he got there after, checked the bodies, and fled.

OJ was innocent. They found blood preservative that is only used in police labs in the blood on OJ's socks. OJ had given 8ml of blood to the cops for evidence yet the vile in evidence only had 6.5ml in it. Where did the other 1.5ml go? OJ was at the scene after the murders but didn't do them. That's why he looks guilty and has traces of being there and rushing home. If you research this you'll find out exactly what I'm talking about. In the end the jury made the right decision. OJ was innocent.
I'm not sure you get the point. A famous detective Bill Dear said the incriminating blood they found on OJ's socks had a blood preservative chemical in it that was only used at the LA police lab. The suggestion is they took 8ml of blood from OJ as evidence, mixed the preservative in it at the lab, and then a crooked cop took some of that blood from the vile and used it to frame OJ. The crooked cop didn't realize there was LAPD blood preservative in the blood that would expose him.

@88jmct We know the truth about the preservative. Two of the three elements that are included in EDTA were found on two items the sock (that is dyed black) and the Gate which is painted with enamel paint. Both of these items could show them chemicals found but just as Dr MArtz testified to that the levels were no where near the levels of preserved blood. Now lets assume those were planted.. what about all the others? Contamination does not turn the killers blood into OJ's.. someone is sleeping!
@88jmct It was caused by the dye involved in the socks. The chemical makeup of EDTA is in so many items that just finding two as they did does not prove it is edta, especially when you look at the levels in which it was found. The levels that they found would not even keep the blood from coagulating. Once again the FBI testified to this. Also forgotten is the fact that most of the blood samples were not tested for EDTA and those test were all done by the FBI.

@MrWadow -- Manson and Tex Watson received the death penalty. The California death penalty was found unconstitutional and the sentences were automatically commuted to life.
The problem wasn't sloppy police work. The defense was never able to erase the fact that Simpson's blood, DNA testing showed, was all over and not explained. Bugliosi gives a number of reasons for the verdict in his book Outrage, one of them being the ignorance of the jury. One woman admitted not understanding the DNA evidence and dismissed it. Another couldn't see why the prosecutors brought up domestic abuse. He also faults the prosecution for not organizing their case more effectively.
An ignorant jury would have connected the dna if it were plausible. The blood evidence was too degraded for positive id, and the rest was found 3 wks after the crime. The prosecution didn't need to dispute it. For an accurate account,don't rely on someone on the outside like Bugliosi, read the jurrors book , or Mr. Dear's "OJ is guilty but not of murder". The jury would have convicted OJ if there was ANY real evidence showing that he did it. The faulty blood evidence does not accomplish this.

Indeed they were some blood drops that were too degraded to positively identify, but there were also 6 blood drops that they were able to run the DNA tests on, and every one of them showed it was Simpson's blood. The odds of it being anyone's other than Simpson's blood were astronomical. The defense had no way to explain this away, and so they argued that it was contaminated, but contamination would not produce a false positive.
@baltomd1 You are close to the truth. Because the blood was so degraded, the lab was only able to run a simplistic version of dna tests which could not exclude family members from a match. THAT is why the defense did not explain it away. Yes it did belong to a Simpson, just not the one you think. Same senario with the hair found in the watch cap. Simple testing showed it was consistant with that belonging to OJ,

I'm just curious as to what other Simpson you think the blood belonged to? As previously mentioned, in regards to the 6 blood drops leading away from the back gate, several were tested with the more comprehensive RFLP testing, and the odds they were anyone's other than O.J. Simpson's would produce numbers that would run off any page.
@baltomd1 Your first sentence is the root of the problem with this case. If the LAPD had ever bothered to look at others for motive, opportunity, etc. OJ would not have been on trial. The blood that was tested with RFLP was found on the back gate, 3 weeks after the crime, and was widely believed to be planted by the LAPD. OJ was at the scene but did not commit the murders.

They did in fact investigate other leads, but they never went anywhere because they had their man from the start. Nobody other then O.J. Mr. Bugliosi was fooled just like everyone else. He is basing his opinions on the evidence presented in OJ's trial and nothing else. There is much more to this story that was not told at trial and when it is finally revealed, you will remember this post.
OJ Simpson is guilty as sin and if the jury actually paid attention to the DNA evidence, they would have convicted him. It wasn't the jury's fault though. The DA was incompetent and didn't introduce the most incriminating evidence. The racial issues had no place in the courtroom. I do not respect the jury's decision because they voted based on the public's opinion of OJ.

This murder case did accomplish one thing. There were probabaly lots of white people in America who felt that black Americans in general were equally competent and impartial in analyzing and passing judgement on an obviously guilty man, and as such were equal in mental capacity to whites. The jury and the reaction of the black community proved otherwise.
Bugliosi is awesome. His words and points are amazingly powerful, concise, and clear. He would have put Simpson away no problem at all. The jurors should have been jailed.

While I now think it likely that Simpson was guilty, I watched nearly every minute of that trial at the time and can say that the prosecution lost the jury with the very first witness, the lead police officer at the scene, when he flat-out lied under oath and had several hours of "missing time" with the "evidence" that he took with home with him. The police in L.A. had a bad reputation for planting evidence on people, so their credibility locally was ZERO! The police blew the case!

The blood I'm talking about was specifically the blood found on the socks. The preservative could only be in that blood if a crooked LA cop planted it. They're caught. Crazy, and as cheap of a flimsy excuse as this sounds, OJ was at the scene and did get blood on him, but he didn't do the murders. While blood from the scene is highly incriminating, it isn't strict proof that OJ did the actual killing. OJ had blood on him from the scene because he got there after, checked the bodies, and fled.

OJ was innocent. They found blood preservative that is only used in police labs in the blood on OJ's socks. OJ had given 8ml of blood to the cops for evidence yet the vile in evidence only had 6.5ml in it. Where did the other 1.5ml go? OJ was at the scene after the murders but didn't do them. That's why he looks guilty and has traces of being there and rushing home. If you research this you'll find out exactly what I'm talking about. In the end the jury made the right decision. OJ was innocent.

I'm not sure you get the point. A famous detective Bill Dear said the incriminating blood they found on OJ's socks had a blood preservative chemical in it that was only used at the LA police lab. The suggestion is they took 8ml of blood from OJ as evidence, mixed the preservative in it at the lab, and then a crooked cop took some of that blood from the vile and used it to frame OJ. The crooked cop didn't realize there was LAPD blood preservative in the blood that would expose him.

Two of the three elements that are included in EDTA were found on two items the sock (that is dyed black) and the Gate which is painted with enamel paint. Both of these items could show them chemicals found but just as Dr MArtz testified to that the levels were no where near the levels of preserved blood. Now lets assume those were planted.. what about all the others? Contamination does not turn the killers blood into OJ's.. someone is sleeping!

The chemical makeup of EDTA is in so many items that just finding two as they did does not prove it is edta, especially when you look at the levels in which it was found. The levels that they found would not even keep the blood from coagulating. Once again the FBI testified to this. Also forgotten is the fact that most of the blood samples were not tested for EDTA and those test were all done by the FBI.

Although this is a very sad case as all murder cases are, I must say: The too small glove is one of the funniest proof I have ever seen. And I am not joking.

@MrWadow -- Manson and Tex Watson received the death penalty. The California death penalty was found unconstitutional and the sentences were automatically commuted to life.

The problem wasn't sloppy police work. The defense was never able to erase the fact that Simpson's blood, DNA testing showed, was all over and not explained. Bugliosi gives a number of reasons for the verdict in his book Outrage, one of them being the ignorance of the jury. One woman admitted not understanding the DNA evidence and dismissed it. Another couldn't see why the prosecutors brought up domestic abuse. He also faults the prosecution for not organizing their case more effectively.

An ignorant jury would have connected the dna if it were plausible. The blood evidence was too degraded for positive id, and the rest was found 3 wks after the crime. The prosecution didn't need to dispute it. For an accurate account,don't rely on someone on the outside like Bugliosi, read the jurrors book , or Mr. Dear's "OJ is guilty but not of murder". The jury would have convicted OJ if there was ANY real evidence showing that he did it. The faulty blood evidence does not accomplish this.

@lawbud Wrong, the blood evidence was not faulty. Indeed they were some blood drops that were too degraded to positively identify, but there were also 6 blood drops that they were able to run the DNA tests on, and every one of them showed it was Simpson's blood. The odds of it being anyone's other than Simpson's blood were astronomical. The defense had no way to explain this away, and so they argued that it was contaminated, but contamination would not produce a false positive.

@baltomd1 You are close to the truth. Because the blood was so degraded, the lab was only able to run a simplistic version of dna tests which could not exclude family members from a match. THAT is why the defense did not explain it away. Yes it did belong to a Simpson, just not the one you think. Same senario with the hair found in the watch cap. Simple testing showed it was consistant with that belonging to OJ,
but on one else was ever tested or compared!

@lawbud What?? No one else was ever tested because there was never any other suspect other than O.J. Simpson. The evidence never led the LAPD to anyone else. I'm just curious as to what other Simpson you think the blood belonged to? As previously mentioned, in regards to the 6 blood drops leading away from the back gate, several were tested with the more comprehensive RFLP testing, and the odds they were anyone's other than O.J. Simpson's would produce numbers that would run off any page.

@baltomd1 Your first sentence is the root of the problem with this case. If the LAPD had ever bothered to look at others for motive, opportunity, etc. OJ would not have been on trial. The blood that was tested with RFLP was found on the back gate, 3 weeks after the crime, and was widely believed to be planted by the LAPD. OJ was at the scene but did not commit the murders.

@lawbud Why in the world would the police department waste resources and manpower when the evidence led them to only one person? They did in fact investigate other leads, but they never went anywhere because they had their man from the start. Nobody other then O.J. Simpson, had the motive opportunity, etc. to commit these murders. I never bought the planting theory, and to suggest O.J. was at the seen and watched someone else commit the murders is ridiculous.

@lawbud And it is interesting that more than 15 years after the crime, no one else has been charged with these murders, to the surprise of few. Yes, I realize that the LAPD had its problems, and there was some sloppy work in this case, but it did not alter the evidence in the slightest.

Cops were proven to have screwed up evidence in this case. There was video tape evidence that contradicted statements made by the police. Mr. Bugliosi was fooled just like everyone else. He is basing his opinions on the evidence presented in OJ's trial and nothing else. There is much more to this story that was not told at trial and when it is finally revealed, you will remember this post.

OJ Simpson is guilty as sin and if the jury actually paid attention to the DNA evidence, they would have convicted him. It wasn't the jury's fault though. The DA was incompetent and didn't introduce the most incriminating evidence. The racial issues had no place in the courtroom. I do not respect the jury's decision because they voted based on the public's opinion of OJ.

There's a high likely-hood that OJ did it, but I respect the jury's decision.
The evidence and the officers look a little bit suspicious and we're in a situation where their sins (of the california cops) piled on top of themselves until it finally rotted away at their credibility and they had to let a guilty man free.
As time goes by, OJ has not really named any more likely suspects and there is substantial evidence to suggest that he has admitted to what he has done (in an un-official way).

Very impressive, its a pity that Bugliosi couldn't have prosecuted the oj simpson case as he probably would have won it, despite having some or most of the incompetent jury members. Bugliosi was great at the Manson trial and knows his stuff alright, however, that was a sad for american justice. Agree with all Vincent has said, he is great.

This murder case did accomplish one thing. There were probabaly lots of white people in America who felt that black Americans in general were equally competent and impartial in analyzing and passing judgement on an obviously guilty man, and as such were equal in mental capacity to whites. The jury and the reaction of the black community proved otherwise.

Yeah but if you think about it why should the defense team be worried about the long-term negative effects on the black community. That's not their priority or goal. There job is to get the man off. Bugliosi's right but the real problem is that Judge ITO should have not allowed much of the Fuhrman evidence. It was inflammatory and irrelevent.

As to how your kind of ignorance contributes to the climate that allowed a killer to go free: You ascribe race to things that don't involve race, and are likely the type of person who refuses to aknowledge when race *is* a factor. I believe that O.J. is guilty, but even white pundits have aknowledged that the prosecution did a horrible job of proving its case beyond a reasonable doubt. THAT is why he was aquitted, NOT because the jury was black.
