@tyler1leboss Carmack created the engine, but it is Romero who created some of the most memorable Doom levels and moments of all time. Knee Deep in the Dead, the head on the stick at the end of the second game, and so forth. Without Romero, there would be no Doom. He was one of the major contributors, and some of his level designs and ideas in the first two Doom games can be thought of as ingenious.
@matthewdoucette Romero did not do as much for Doom as people credited him for. All he really did was create levels, and despite being the lead level designer, he wasn't the best level designer on the team, and made only a small fraction of Doom's levels.
@ShellM591 Wasn't expecting to have the top comment on here! I know what Romero did in Doom, but I don't agree that what he did wasn't great and significant. His levels, IMHO, were better than the others. The 2nd and 3rd episodes were not as good as the 1st, and Romero's absense in the 2nd and 3rd are apparent. I think he took Carmack's magical tech genius and best showcased it. I give great respect to his design abilities!
@ShellM591 This is totally not true, Doom's actual feel, style and design was John Romero's creation, Carmack created the new technology for Doom. Also, Romero created the tools for creating Doom (DoomEd) levels.
@ShellM591 I think Romero's levels, in regards to texture usage, lighting, and atmosphere, are far better than most of Sandy Peterson's efforts. I think both are great, and Peterson himself is a legend especially with Containment Area as far as I'm concerned, but I always thought his maps never had the quality or polish of Romero's works. What is your opinion? I always find the classic levels very interesting to study and compare to one another. Happy Dooming from a fellow Doomer!
Agreed, has anybody noticed the rocking tits on Romero? He he, I'm just kidding. Unlike 90% of youtube, I still believe in John Romero as a game designer, and overall cool dude, and it would be awesome to death match that guy.
I disagree with Romero on not having zombies in a game to be kickass...if a video game doesn't have lo pan, then it's bound to fail...also, just kidding.
NONSENCE!!!!!! IM THE DOOM MASTER

id Software, John Carmack and John Romero, leave a fantastic legacy. But his story belongs to the 90s, the golden years.

@Chubzdoomer actually, Romero didn't put his own head in doom 2. It was a prank by someone else, but he found it and put the backwards voice in.
