  • i rate this and batman begins as my favorite batman movies.

  • Ah, the good ol days of VHS. Although I love DVD because of all the features and etc, VHS will always have a great place in my heart. Just like this Batman movie. I don't care what anyone else says, The Tim Burton Batman films will always be the best in my view.

  • Well I prefer this over the films that followed it :D

"Cool party!" "What killed the Dinosaurs? The Ice Age!" "Freeze everybody!"

  • Cool! This was one of the very first movies on laserdisc that i ever got for X-mas of 1992 and i still have it.

  • @TheAltair4

I got it on VHS that christmas and later on DVD as now i have it on Blu-Ray in the anthology-boxset. Great movie! Pfeifer also was that hottie Mindy on The Simpsons the same year, remember that episode? 92 was a big year for Batman don't you think?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Yeah, i remember her as Mindy on The Simpsons. 92 was a great year all around and especially for Batman.

  • VHS was terrible. Come on, nostalgia is one thing, but really?

  • Nice!

  • Batman Returns was a good film.

  • @MDthornton83

Damn right, i was 11 when i saw this 4 times in theaters and been a Bat fan since i was 8 when i saw 1989's movie 5 times in theaters and been converted into a Batman fan as i read the comics and had the merchandise even to this movie. 92 was a big year for Batman don't you think? there was this and the awesome animated show which was suprisingly quite adult for a near prime time animated show that i watched religiously and taped every episode even on WB. Pfeifer was hot.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Yep. Both 1989 and 1992 were big years for Batman. Those movies totally revolutionized the character. Me, I've been a Batman fan my whole life. I two have read some of the comics and have seen every movie to date. I agree; the TV show from the 90s was dark. In fact, some episodes were downright intense. Especially the 1993 animated film Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.

  • @MDthornton83

Even my mom and big brother (big fan of Marvel and DC just like me) liked the animated show as well. Do you think Pfefier was hot as Selina Kyle/Catwoman? i do, i had a crush on Pfefier since i was 4 when i saw Ladyhawke in theaters and thought she was yummy in this role when i was 11. And when i started reading the comics when i was 8, i had a crush on Catwoman/Selina Kyle and i adore her in any version. What did you think of Andriene Barbeau as Selina/Catwoman?

  • Why is the the "PG-13" rating flashing at the end? Are they afraid we'll miss it?

  • @BrainDeadTelevision

It's not flashing, it's just the rip of the video and the resolution.

  • Batman Returns on VHS. I have it.

  • Comment removed

  • Sometimes I miss the simplistic rawness of VHS. You popped the tape in and watched the movie. No bullshit regarding pixelation, matting, pops, audio drops, digital noise reduction, etc. Movies were only widely available in full screen. But nobody cared because the world wasn't filled with wannabe snobs who were obsessed with aspect ratios. You just WATCHED THE MOVIE and enjoyed it.

Only thing I don't miss is having to rewind the tape.

  • @Batman8657 How about failing video player heads? The tape getting jammed? Only being able to record one station at a time in poor quality? And only 6 hrs max per tape? Stop holding on to the past dude. Media has gone nowhere but up

  • @Batman8657 But at least if you had to stop the movie, you didn't have to go to the scene selection screen to find where you left off at.

  • this movie came out on my birthday

    June 19 1992

i was 9 and had the best time ever in the movies that day <(^~^<)

  • @MarkMasters83

Born June 16 and i saw this movie 4 times in theaters, did you also watched the animated show on Fox too? i did religiously every after school and taped every episode even on WB. Pfeifer was a babe as Catwoman/Selina Kyle don't you think? i was 11 that year and had a crush on her, i always had a crush on Pfeifer since i was 4 when i saw Ladyhawke, I even had a crush on Catwoman from the comics when i was 8 and TAS's Selina Kyle when i was 11.

  • batman returns handheld video game commercial

  • batman returns vhs commercial

  • i bought this in a batman/ batman returns double pack VHS back in the day...watched it many times.

  • Comment removed

  • I remember watching this on Laserdisc when it came out on home video.

  • batman dvd is better but vhs was really cool

  • i still got this on vhs

  • that was my childhood movie.

  • burton perfectly captured batman and nolan simply re-imagined batman very well.

  • bring them back!!!!!

  • people need to stop arguing over "whos films are better burtons or nolans?" they are different types of batman movies. they cannot be compared though they are all awsomely entertaining.

  • That's interesting cause I thought Nolan's was closer to the Batman comics that first came out in the 30's.

  • very underated film, the critics fucked all over this

  • Critics are losers.

  • possibly because it was darker and more twisted like most of burtons movies. burton didnt have mcuch creative control over the first movie, but he certainly did over the 2nd one and its quite clear. but burtons dark style naturally lends itself to the batman material.

  • @burtonrules123

What do you think of the animated Batman show?

  • Best Batman movie before Dark Knight and better then Begins nearly.

  • Rolling Stone just lost all credibility with me!

  • Keaton is the man for BATMAN!

  • Not even Bale or Kilmer are this good? would you love to see Penguin or Catwoman in a new Batman sequel?

  • haha, i still have this one too!

  • I still have this

  • yeah i had this one on vhs as well best batman movie ever

  • I had a lot of memories with VHS, and even just today, popping by a discount store I found some old Star Trek NG cassettes for only one dollar. Maybe this is why I intend to get a Blue-ray/VHS combo once it comes out (yes, there is such a thing. It's out in Japan and the US, but worldwide would still have to wait).

  • the BEST BATMAN MOVIE

  • @Riddler95 The second best!

  • I have this movie, and I still use my VHS :D

  • What fun days , good ol' VHS. Was Batman Returns ever on laserdisc?

  • I know this is probably months too late, but yes, it was released on Laserdisc.

  • Yes it was on laserdisc too, but I still got this VHS

  • DVDs are pratically better.

  • Can someone help me with this?: I think I may have dreamed this up, because I can't find a mention or clip of it anywhere, but wasn't there a number you could call that had to do with "Batman Returns"? It was an 800/900 number, not sure what it said on it because I never called. Anyone else remember this?

  • oh! im do old! that looks really great! hahahahha what a wonderfuul times!

  • I have that movie on VHS. Lol.

  • I miss the VHS, too.

  • @Arrowdance you miss it? even all the endless rewinding? lol i love nostalgia as well but there's no way i'm going back to rewinding.

  • @acedaface954 Good point. After all, rewinding to your favorite part in a film takes FOREVER. And I think its a good thing that we went digital. It's really revolutionized entertainment as we know it.

  • @MDthornton83 ditto lol. I still own somd vhs tapes just so I can have a piece of history you know? But I'm going to sit here and rewind from scene to scene again. No sir. Lol

  • @MDthornton83 ditto lol. I still own some vhs tapes just so I can have a piece of history you know? We're on to dvds now and software tools like usb sticks and memory cards. So with that said, I'm not going to sit here and rewind from scene to scene again. No sir. Lol

  • @acedaface954 I've bought films for $.50-$1.00 because they were $4.00 cheaper than DVDs, but now you can get some of the same films used on DVD for $2.00. At the moment, I only keep VHS copies of DVDs I don't own or VHS only films.

  • @WebVManReturns keep them man. lock them up in a black plastic garbage bag inside a plastic container. :-)

  • @Arrowdance And don't forget the local video stores.....

  • mary winstead or kate nash should be the new catwoman

  • In an odd way I kind of miss VHS

  • Actually i believe DVD and Blu-Ray is superior to VHS, no need of rewinding or tape snagging.

  • of coarse DVD & Blu-Ray and way better than VHS, even the older LaserDisc format was superior to VHS, VHS always sucked, it was just good for recording things of TV.

  • oh, how i wish we still used vhs. The 90's we're kick ass!

  • @rossyboy1991 imagine a laptop with a built in VHS lol

  • @rossyboy1991

Yeah , those early days' were fun were'nt they. Actaully I have a HD DVD / VCR combo hooked up too my projector and you would'nt believe how good some of those old VHS Video's look. Some even better than DVD. Keep it rockin , Take Care.

  • @rossyboy1991 well i have a dvd and a blu-ray..but i still watch vhs sometimes..everybody does!

  • @rossyboy1991 lol i still do i just record new movies to vhs lol

  • @rossyboy1991 Now a days, it seems like all the fuss it's about Blu Ray DIsk here Blue ray disk there, DVD's were released in japan in novermber 1996, and in the us in March of 1997, VHS was on the market until 2006 due to the simple fact that there were still at one point Classic films that weren't availble on DVD

  • @rossyboy1991 Hell no.

  • @rossyboy1991 I still use vhs, you can get so many good flims for a crazy cheap price!

  • are you serious?

  • "so he takes the knife to her, looks at me, puts the blade in my mouth and says, "why so serious!?"

  • Remember how we used to wait YEARS to finally get our movies on VHS? These little kids these days don't know how good they got it.

  • Yea, but these first two batman films were out on VHS before Christmas as 'sell-thrus' for the years they were released. Empire, Jedi and the two Indiana Jones sequels took awhile tho.

  • I remember waiting for what seemed forever for Jurassic Park to be released on video.

The film opened in June of 1993 but wasn't released on video until October 1994.

  • first 2 batmans the best other sucks big time

  • Except "Batman Begins" and "Dark Knight" will blew away other Batman movies.

  • I have an advertising poster for the first Batman movie's release on VHS. Only $24.99!

  • ARe U INSANE???? Joel had NO right in making any Batman movies and thank God George Clooney actually issued a public apology for his involvement! After this second film it all went to hell with Joel Schumacher.

  • Wait, he issued a public apology? You mean I can't hold a grudge anymore?

    DAMMIT!

  • ohh,the vhs era!... it's so nostalgic!

  • noone can defeat adam west wtf!

  • Oh Tim Burton. You changed the face of Batman...

then you had to drop the series and watch it dissolve into cheese....

But then Christopher Nolan came along and changed it for the better again.

And we all went home happy. n_n

nice old commercial though, always fun to see stuff from before I was even born. creepy, that.

  • But do you think "The Dark Knight" will be better? Joker is back in that one.

  • Begins was boring.give me B89 and Returns anytime. i dont want to know batmans origin, that stuff was boring. villians rocked in the first films, but sucked in the later ones. just bleh.

  • Agreed.

  • What do you think of Dark Knight? do you think Ledger made a better Joker then Nicholson?

  • are you kidding? nicholson owns the role. ledger was ok but reminded me more of like a normal serial killer and not the joker.

  • Would you see Penguin and Catman in future Batman sequels?

  • NO, i hope they leave those 2 alone. burton already did dark twisted versions of them. i dont think you could go any deeper with them then burton already did. the joker i guess could have used a facelift after 20 years but seriously, LEAVE CATWOMAN AND PENGUIN ALONE! they already rocked.

  • I bet you think Batman Begins and Dark Knight are remakes of Burton's movies because of Batman's origin and The Joker right? WRONG, these new movies are a reboot of the franchise which means a different Batman series distant away from the old ones after Schumacher damaged the series and Nolan fixed it. Afterall you can't have a Batman series without The Joker since he's an important part of Batman's life and even Catwoman is the same, i hear she might be for the next movie and Riddler.

  • i heard Jim Carey is gonna do the riddler again

  • I think Simon Pegg should be Riddler with Ann Hathaway as Catwoman.

  • Yeah right...that is ridiculous. Are you aware they don't even have a story or director yet? Try looking into things more before repeating them and spreading more bs.

  • yeah ok nerd

  • eh, they'll do what they want anyway, but i still think that burtons original 3 interpretations of the 3 villians, including batman, are the best film versions. christian bale did nothing for me, hes just wooden, and the movies take themselves too seriously for me to enjoy them. plus the batmobile looks like shit.

  • Keaton is better and do you think Burton's version is better then Nolan's?

  • Different takes on Batman between Burton and Nolan as you have pointed out.

  • Agreed. Although I enjoyed Begins and TDK, they are overated. They might be conventionally better movies but they ain't Batman films. TDK could easily have been called CSI Gotham (or Chicago by the looks of it)

  • haha yeah, chicagotham. yeah they are not batman films. i mean remember when batman films used to be real EVENT movies for the summer? sheesh ill never forget the hype for batman forever, and they even made a big deal about B&R before everyone knew it sucked. and B89....i dont think a movie had ever been that huge. i understand Returns AT THE TIME was too adult for kids and some parents for upset, but cmon the first batman wasnt that kiddy. nowadays everyone wants a dark batman. strange huh?

  • i think these ppl who say nolans films are the best ever are just saying that cuz they WANT to believe they are. fact is, they are just too serious and just not fun! i mean, its funny when ppl say they are the best cuz i mean, you cant compare them to burtons original classic films.

  • True, the Nolan films aren't fun, particulary Begins. I spent the whole time watching Begins waiting for it to get exciting. The Nolan films take themselves too seriously and they can be quite pretentious because of that. What it all comes down to is, Batman is a comic book character with comic book villians. The film should reflect that. I think Burton got it spot on with a dark Batman and just as important, a dark Gotham. The Burton films are classics and are how Batman should be IMO.

  • nolans films are more for real batman fans, fans of the comics and graphic novels, i like burtons but they're more for little kids and fagets like you

  • firslty that was the gayest post ive read on here. second, your statment is entirely false. the 2 burton films were made for kids AND adults (im gonna ignore the lame "faggot" remark). saying its just for kids is like saying the godfather is a kids movie. and nolans films, while bordering more on realism, at there core they not realistic at all. nolan only TREATS the matieral as if it were real life but you can easily take his stories and make then complete fantasy if done more in thatb style.

  • but yeah, your totally wrong, and also a VERY ignorant fanboy i can see.

  • fanboy??? i actually enjoy both nolan's and burton's movies, just that in my opinion nolan's are better. you're the one who named himself "burtonrules" on youtube, and you're calling someone else a fanboy??? lol you cant be serious.

  • which is why they are rated 15 ad nolans are 12a. they are both good lets stop there.

  • Are you joking,Nolan's films were clearly meant for a big audience to get those who don't like Batman into Batman,Nolan gave a real backstory and didn't have to take anything for granted

Burton you to take everything for granted as a fan therefore Burton's are meant for fans. Why heck Heath Ledger's Joker isn't even like any of the comics.

  • Actually I have to correct you there. Heath Ledger's Joker was the original Joker from 1940, when the character first appeared.

  • No he wasnt.

  • Yes he was. Go back and read the Joker's first appearance my friend. It was one of the biggest influences for The Dark Knight.

  • wasnt it black circles around or under his eyes

  • No he a blue circles but I'm talking about the appearance. The personality, actions and crimes of the Joker in Batman #1 were exactly like the Joker from The Dark Knight.

Nolan said it himself that the Joker from is film is taken straight out of the Batman comics from 1940.

  • lol, you can find the pic. i just did and theyre black. im sorry, but i have the comic in a compilation graphic novel and the joker is an idiot with one liners... his first appearance did not define his personality lol.. your funny

  • I have the comic book mate and he has blue eye bags in the drawings which are close ups of his face.

Read it again. The kind of things that the Joker does in that comic he does in The Dark Knight. He announces his crimes to the public before they've happened.

He is also described as having droney voice and someone who had hate-filled eyes...this is what Nolan and Ledger used for their interpretation of the Joker.

  • And yes he may have had one liners but think about it....the book was made in 1940. Of course it's going to seem a little silly now.

At the time it was a tense and disturbing story. That's why it's so famous cause it was a totally new thing at the time for a comic. That's what Nolan wanted to do for his film....have the same sustained threat that was in that book.

Seriously mate look it up. Batman #1 was the biggest influence on The Dark Knight for Nolan and Ledger.

  • lol i have batman #1 i just said so, but i can get where your coming from though. there are so many fucked up things the joker has done to batman in the last 70 or 80 years.

  • wow, your a douche. grow up and appreciate both.

  • @burtonrules123

Mark Hamil pisses on both Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, don't you think?

  • @burtonrules123

What do you think of Andrienne Barbeau as Catwoman/Selena Kyle on Batman The animated show?

  • I own this on DVD.

But I did own the first Batman with Jack Nicholson, Michael Keaton, and Kim Bassinger on VHS when it was first released back during Christmas 1989.

  • dot forget to bring home the cat

  • HEHEHEHEHEHE

  • Hooray for DVD.

  • this is the best batman movie!!!

  • Most Definately, but as far as really getting to know the man behind the mask, Begins takes the cake.

  • Good to see the age of good ol' VHS when the land wasn't stained with DVD-mania. Nice trailer for a nice movie.

  • There's a Batman Returns Diet coke commercial on RetroJunk.com also. Its a pretty cool commercial, but I don't think there is a way to download it.
