I think the V10's sounded more intimidating. I've always wanted to build a scaled up quad with an F1 style engine in it, and I think the V10's would be the scariest of all. Of course there't the inline 5 that GM makes. That would sound great with some modification.

god i am sooo falling in love with these cars. i have a 98 VW Jetta VR6 and the sounds are very close together. im thinking for a second car i may try to find and Audi Coupe quattro. dotn really care what year i find as long as its a coupe and a 5-cylinder. would love to get a UR but i doubt ill get that lucky. ill settle for the early 90s ones if that what i find.

Yeah. S2 is the better option. They are not that hard to find, and there are still a few stock ones. Try getting one with the lowest mileage possible, and check the turbo before you buy the car. Also look at the fuelrefill cap, around that place, the S2 tend to rust. Also, underneeth your sideskirts they want to rust. Get it fixed, or prepare for alot of money to get out of your wallet

Love that sound! I used to have a 2.2 5cyl (non quattro turbo) but it still sounded good. My pals always wanted a lift so they could put the windows downs and listen to the beautiful noise.

Possibly not `anti-lag` as used in rally cars. That is a very damaging system. OK for engines that are rebuilt regularly. Turbos can be easily damaged, so this car probably relies on just a dump valve and high revs to keep the turbo spinning )plus modern electronics?)

What the jesus fuck are you talking about you AMATURE! It's called Antilag, almost every rally car be it group b or WRC from these days have it. It doesnt feed fuel into the turbo... the ecu retards ignition and the fuel cycles through and explodes in the exhaust manifold BEFORE the turbo, spooling it up the same as if the throttle was fully open. It's just to recreate exhaust pressure to spool the turbo up when on overrun.

Its a 5 cylinder 20valver (turbocharged).

Nothing else sounds anything like these engines, although volvo and fiat both make a 20 valve 5 cylinder engine ( copycatted) from Audi.

Best sounding engines ever imho. :)

Volvo has made 5 cylinder engines since time immemorial, just like Audi, and their engines are different than Audis.

Audis first 5 cylinder came out in 1979-1980, volvo's was quite some time later.

I actual fact volvo used an audi 5 cylinder engine in their diesel V70.

Allow me to clarify the "copycat" statement- i simply meant that theyd copied the 5 cylinder idea, rather than the engine proper as they are like you say different in most respects, ive worked on both types ( and the fiat 5 cylinder) so im aware of their differences. :)
