I saw him and Merle Haggard in Branson in June 2009, and I will tell you, Gene hasn't lost a bit of his voice and showmanship since I saw him in San Jose, CA in about '78 or '79. He is one of a kind.

Mr. Gene Watson can make a grown man cry with this song! OMG! This song gets me angry just knowing that today, AMERICA is in a crisis! Thousands of jobs have been lost and hundreds more will be gone in the coming months. Many will lose their homes, family and livlihood! The story of this song might come true for me! I grew up believing AMERICA was the greatest country in the world. Now, a decent hard working man can't get a job to support his family!

Yes, this is a later song. Gene's not dead yet. I saw him at the Stagecoach Ballrooom on 12-6-2008 and he was better than ever. I think he is 66 but still sounds great. Mark
