yeah the Trilogy was awesome (I still have all 3 on VHS! LOL!) The first one, by far, was and still is the best though..and it came out in 1985 not 1989! I've been psyched waiting for this game to come out, but I agree, if it is turn based, it could prove to be disappointing.
I'd buy this if for no other reason than it is a part of the Megazoone 23 line. I've been a die hard fan of MZ23 since I first saw it in 1986 or so shortly after it first came to US shores. I even still have my VHS copy of it from back when all my friends would go to anime conventions and string together about 10-12 VCR's and just copy tape after tape for days. lol
I have no idea what you're talking about. My point is that the in the story of Megazone 23, civilians aboard a spaceship (in the future) are living in an artificial 80s Tokyo, created by a computer. They picked the 80s because, let's face it, that was a great time to be living in Japan, economically and otherwise. So the setting is supposed to be dated.
I think they picked the 80's because it was the 80's when this was released.
If the Matrix presented the world as if it were in medieval times I highly doubt the result would have been nearly as effective. The same could be said for MZ.
Exactly! When I saw the import disc in chinatown, I was like OMG MZ23 game!!!I thought it would be something right out badass on par with House of the Dead 2 or 3 or something like that. It pains me to say this, but from what I've seen here, it looks like a huge disappointment. I mean, leave the dating sims for PC only please!!!And don't get me wrong, SRW is excellent, but it simply doesn't fit at all here.
(sigh) Megazone 23 was one of the best animes on Par with Macross 1984. Haruhiko Mikimoto doesn't draw unless it has an idol singer. It's a real shame that Kumi Miyasato wasn't back in the singing industry, because she was just as good as Mari Iijima. I still like hand drawn anime more than I do computer anime.
It comes out in September 13 already released in Japan. I'll be getting my Limited Edition sometime by tomorrow(The Limited Edition brings 'Megazone 23 INTERNATIONAL PART II' DVD VIDEO). I am really disappointed about this and the voiceover they did for Eve.... sigh, can't wait for this week! ^^
It's an English dub done by the Harmony Gold stable of actors for the sole purpose of teaching English to Japanese students. It was never intended for a U.S. release.
I have it on bootleg VHS. It's subtitled in Japanese. Highlights include Barbara Goodson as Suzy Sue (Yui), Mike McConnohie as B.D., and Arlene Banas (Carly from Transformers) as Dump.
First song is really good and gives the Megazone feel quiet nicely. I'm not sure why they expect me to buy that the second song is by Eve Tokimatsuri as Eve had a distinctively deep voice, look at any of the songs on youtube for reference. This one sounds like a generic modern pop idol, and since this game is supposed to take place between Part 1 and 2, that means Eve goes from deep voice 80's pop, to generic high pitched sugar idol pop and back for part 2, which makes no sense.

The art in this is disappointing. I can stomach turn-based story games if I really had to(really not my thing).
I'm more a gamer than an anime fan and I just can't play this sort of thing.
londinio 2 years ago 2
Yeah, if you can't make game spinoff from anime that's really playable then you have to make the game better for yourself.
Mythteller 2 years ago 2
This game is like a new ova/ gaiden where you play as shogo's son, Takanaka Hiroto.

Things like this make it very easy to develop an unrealistically nostalgic view of the 1980s by sheer virtue of how much this blows.
Twenty-three years ago the music was better, the robots were awesomer, and the girls were much, much cuter.
reverendragu 3 years ago
Don't you know anything about the plot of Megazone 23? The setting's supposed to be really dated.
roothands 3 years ago
If Megazone 23 is considered dated then the current era must really fucking suck.

IIRC Mikimoto only did character designs for two anime with idol singers (this one and Macross).

I wonder if either the Asian or Japanese version of the game will have an English option..

So Kumi Miyasato didn't reprise her role as Eve?
tuxedomark 4 years ago
Um, no. She would be, what in her 40s now?
Plus she vanished in the early 90s without a trace. It is rumored she just retired, and now lives as a housewife.
A shame, really...her voice was great.
SpeedingStudent 4 years ago
She's 38, not that it matters.
Another rumor is that her contract with Victor Records wasn't renewed, due to supposed diminished popularity.

Actually, the game takes place in an alternate universe where Part 2 never happens. It simply continues on from Part 1.
