The School network filter at my school even blocked a couple of News websites, university websites and youtube. the were only able to use Wikipedia and some other BS websites.
I remember the nz governments school network filter. it was designed to block off porn and illegal concent. u couldn't view wikipedia, youtube, and around 5000,00000,0000000 other sites that have nothing to do with it, INCLUDING THE GOVERNMENT WEBSITE

The majority of sites blocked are not Child Porn related.
This filter does not block torrents and other internet services. A 10 yr old can get around the filter!

It was a lost battle from the start. Censorship exists in offline mainstream media which sadly dominates over internet still. Our country has accepted it because a large portion of Australians still go to their TVs and newspapers for news. Push media > Pull media. We don't discuss important things such as why someone so conservative can be senator of broadband, why we have one of the worst internet speeds, why the internet demographic is ignored. There is no discussion\debate, we are just fed BS

Censorship is never a good idea even if they are doing it to block illegal activity/sites or some such mainly because the governments always go about it the wrong way, an example is what the Australian gov't is trying to do to the internet there. They have no real plan at all and they don't want to come up with one or don't know exactly how to pull it off so they do the dumbest and easiest thing they can think of such as the filter which probably won't block any of the illegal sites at all.

Well in Conroy's defence he is a politician, 9 times out of 10 they're idiots and i've yet to be proven wrong on this.
What I honestly find really wrong is this is the kind of thing we should be able to vote on as a people, this is something that affects all of us and sure it'd be a pain in the ass but we should still be able to have a say in what happens to our internet.
