If someone in a Presidential administration (or anywhere else for that matter) quoted and admired a certain guy who murdered 6+ million people, folks would go apecrap crazy, and rightly so, but if someone in a Presidential administration quotes and looks up to a certain guy who murder 60+ million, meh, no biggie.
You can look up to any number of people who say such things as "Find your own path! Be your own person!" without the whole mass murder/taking away the path-choices of billions thing.
What I'm saying is that by Ms. Dunn's own words, she repeatedly looks up to a guy that not only murdered more people than Hitler (try saying that "maybe he was purging" jazz about Hitler without people going nuts) but, more importantly, took the very thing she is saying about "finding your own way" away from billions of people.
There are plenty of people who say such things (which are hardly unique) that aren't brutal dictators. Why the heck would she invoke, let alone admire, someone who was?
Of course Mao didn't go out and murder anyone. Neither did Hitler or Stalin. That's wholly beside the point. Mao took the freedom to choose one's path, something Dunn is saying people should do, away from millions and millions of people. Hell, at one point, he took away their names.
The dichotomy between the left's professed love of individual freedom and their love affair with thugs (and policies) that snuff out individual freedom borders on comedy.

Whether Mao was a "true communist" or not and whatever his intentions were is irrelevant. He, just the like other dictators the left lionizes, clamped down on individual liberty with ruthless efficiency. If that's fine with the left, great. They should have the balls to say as much and leave these pretenses of being pro-liberty.
