  • There is only two situations in which it is acceptable for an American (like me) to attempt an English accent: 1, you are purposely screwing around with your friends and it is obvious you aren't taking yourself seriously. 2, you are a trained professional actor working on a movie, and the caveat to that is that you should at least be able to do so convincingly. I've never been to England, so if I can tell your accent is shit, then you should stop, Renee Zelweger, for one.

  • There is such a thing called "foreign accent syndrome" but the etiology is medical. In Madonna's case it appears to be psychological. Some people with DID aka multiple personality disorder present with a sudden foreign accent. She's been through a lot. She may be a super star, but she's still human. She's probably under more stress than we could ever imagine. It may have triggered a disassociative state. Just my opinion.

  • Madonna's lived in England for years now, so has it ever dawned on anyone that after a while people pick up on the way other people talk? I don't think she fakes it. I think she naturally goes in & out of the accent because that's not the way she talks anyway. And she not from Detroit, folks, she's from Bay City. Big difference.

  • @madeyes4u Will you please shut the fuck up?? That bitch is American!

  • @madeyes4u ur right people can pick up accents but interesting enough my parents are foreigner have been in the usa for 30 years and still sound foreign. the same can be said with british actors who live in the usa somehow they still don't sound america. yes you can pick up an accent but for it to completely change how you talk is rare. oftentimes someone losing their accent is a concious decision. like ppl said i think she just wants to be british so she has tried to lose her american accent

  • Newsflash! Madonna is pretentious! Wow I never knew. Oh wait, yes I did

  • where in Detroit do you get this accent?

  • What a bull shit artist!

  • TITLE IS WRONG. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A 'BRITISH' ACCENT!!!

  • If I were to live in the UK (which is my dream) I wouldn't try to imitate the accent. I would stick to my American (west coast Los Angeles) accent. It's better to be yourself then to pretend to be something you're not. Which will make you look like a fool.

  • I am sure due to stereotypes/division and the illusion of "race" especially in the US many "black" people notice when "white" people change their whole speech pattern when engaging in conversation. I have experienced this in the most odd ways. I speak very monotone and sound like a midwesterner. Yet I will have a guy after I have spoken change his pattern and be like "NAh whaddup brotha', you chillin'?'" It's almost too funny/ridiculous/transparent to get mad even if it happens 1,000 times.

  • @terminalcommand yeah dude I understand.... I have punched so many white guys in the face for talking to me like that.

  • @KelferMookie Good for you. Any white person who tries to talk ghetto deserves a punch in the face. There are too many people in the world today trying to be something they are not.

  • ....But there are many dialects et cetera that to many people like "Madonna" sound all alike.

The way you know its a conscious effort is anytime something more emotional, or reactionary is said (such as the last line in this) the accent is no longer there or barely a hint.....If this was just the natural way of speaking and being. CONTINUED.....

  • So yes, to those that see people who do this it will come off insecure, pretentious, and fake. It is usually also a conscious effort as much as some people would like to disagree. As humans we are driven by fear and self-interest. With our hierarchical structure based on environment you are in, "acceptance" = power. So yes it is fake and disingenuous and likely based on stereotypes of "wealth" = status. Most American's only hear Oxbridge like accents and assume it means "sophisticated" "refined"

  • Quoted from Wall Street Journal

"The trouble for adult Americans in Britain, language experts say, is that because of changes in the brain, only young children can fully master a new accent. "If a kid moves to a new area after 14, that kid will never sound like he or she belongs to that area," says Jack Chambers, a professor of linguistics at the University of Toronto.

  • She was joking you stupid fucks.

  • @metronomic1 She wasn't joking. There is a full video of this cringe-worthy interview, wherein she drifts in and out of her contrived English accent, pouring it on thick for certain words, and then immediately back into an American accent before regaining her English one again. I felt embarrassed just watching it...

  • I want to stuff her mouth with hydrangeas so she'll stop talking.

  • Britain has a capital B.

  • Liam Neeson has lived in the US for God knows how long, and he still has his strong Welsh accent. This on the other hand...

  • @SkyProtonFood You know, I highly doubt that, considering he's from Northern Ireland....

  • @SkyProtonFood Haaaaaaaaaaa! Hilarious! I love you.

  • This is a person who went from being a trouble making hussy to never having her actions questioned by anyone. She never experienced the trial and error part of life that molds us all. Therefore she has some serious emotional shortcomings, probably more so than other celebrities given her harsh personality.

  • I dislike Madonna, but some of us unconsciously tailor our voices to those around us, especially over time. Take a listen to Sandi Toksvig. The nightmare is that you blurt out something like "Wassup, my niggas!" to a room full of cold stares.

  • So awkward...

  • The Great Pretender.

  • i've always found her made up somewhat english accent silly and attention seeking.like something someone would do before a nervous breakdown.hell she's from michigan like me.so if she has even a hent of a midwestern accent left she should be proud and represent.she had a newyork/jersey whatever you want to call it accent in the 80's.'who's that girl" being a good example. so who knows what motivates her.

  • @amers83 Madonna lived in the UK for many years, and she was a big ego and she has even admitted to it, so at least she knows.

  • @amers83 What motivates her? She's a fucking epic attention whore whose unparalleled attention whoring spans at least three decades, six contents and several dozen reinventions.

The bitch is going on 60 years old and she's still at it. She currently thinks having a British accent makes her interesting...if speaking like a fucking Mongolian became popular 10 years from now, she'll be 70 and going on Letterman to talk about how she sucked Genghis Khan's cock. Stupid twat.

  • @GozerTheGozerian l.o.l. this is true=).

  • why do americans always associate british with posh, we are far from it!

  • I like her british accent , it makes her sound intelligent and superior.

  • @MyMerlin1 ehhh no it makes her sound like she has a tumb in her ass

  • @PokerPlum hey dude is quite the international greeting for most teenagers, i mean what do you expect people to do walk around in tophats greeting people with a "good day"?

  • she sounded strangely fake to me, as if she was mixing American with the English accent LOL

  • Chim chimeree chim chimeree chim chim cheree

  • I know when someone is faking that they have an accent. Compare Madonna's voice with an actual British voice and you will see that she sounds nothing like them.

People don't go to another country for that little time and one day they just wake up and have this thick accent. She's making a fool of herself. That's why the audience is laughing.

  • @PokerPlum

But for some reason it's much more acceptable for a Brit celebrity to move to the U.S and sound completely American in a couple years. They are however, both ridiculous!. I was in England a couple years ago and never once heard anyone say "Dude" ha ha! maybe it's a brand new phenomonon???

  • my grandmother is from Germany and we grew up in the states and she never lost her hard Bavarian accent...

  • Great video! Madonna's lack of self-actualization is fascinating and profound. She's at an interesting crossroad in her career. What ever happened to baby jane? Will she re-define herself as Davis or re-invent a comfortable Crawford? Do I think she's satisfied? NO!

  • Once you've been around a certain accent it does affect the way you talk. My brother is from Manchester but now has a kind of manc/brum accent after living in Birmingham for 8 years. The problem is she changed her accent after like 6 months of living in the UK and it just wouldn't happen that fast

  • ha what a complete fool such a fake accent how dense is this tramp put some weight on you skank stop dancin around in your nickers your fuckin 50

  • im an american in ny. my mom is originally from england, moving here in 1986 when she was 24, she 48 now and the accent is still there! . madonna is fake being my point

  • hi guys. im actually going to ask youtube a question right now and request peoples opinions. i was born in london and lived there for the first third of my life before moving to the states. i am a dual citizen and have a passport from each country. i now speak with an american accent, but i often talk or read aloud to myself in a british one, especially if i have been viewing something where the characters were british. would it be all right for me to intentionally speak in my british accent?

  • @fauxshizzlee As long as you're in England

  • @waypastthat that's reasonable. thanks for the reply =]

  • Too much of this shit is happening these days. Why the hell can't people be who they are as opposed to being something they're not?

  • i really fucking hate this overrated nasty fugly cunt....She is the most overrated entertainer (because no waaayy would i call her a musician) of all time.. ALmost as overated as Michael Pedo Jackson was.

  • @PokerPlum So using Americanisms is being pretentious? You do understand the meaning of the word don't you? A working class person acting posh is pretentious. A posh person acting working class is not.

  • Well that's what I call an impressive video.

  • @PokerPlum Saying hey dude in an English accent because it's in a lot of pop culture consumed over here isn't what I would call pretentious.

  • love her, but yeah, the accent was weird. She has so many amazing songs though!

  • It's kind of silly that she's got the accent, but I know that it's possible to happen, especially for people who have an ear for music, like she does. It is VERY easy to pick up the prevailing accent in the area where you live, whether it be South Boston, Staten Island, Baton Rouge, or London.

  • @Thelookoutslookout= Tery Gilliam has lived in England for years, and he still has a Minnesota accent. Madonna like the others said, is an overrated cunt. She is over. I don't even play her songs anymore. Sorry Madonna, the clock struck Midnight for you long ago. You are obsolete.

  • @vigo894 Then why is she on your favorites list? lols, not that I'm a fan or anything, but you've just called her a cunt, lmao

  • @PokerPlum She's only joking.

  • @TheBenedictStone ummm no she is not...she forced that awful accent for years.

  • @harveydents No she didn't.

  • I think she sounds sexy

  • @PokerPlum why? She lives in britain for god sakes

  • what a cunt.

  • @mvandeven well she lives over there in europe for a while right she probably just picked it up. like johnny depp has a little accent too and he spends a lot of time in europe so he probably got it from there too

  • Come è luminosa in questo video:))

  • she's a joke

  • @PokerPlum

What's pretentious about British people calling eachother "dude"? To me, it's just as common as calling eachother "mate"... It's a generation thing, I guess.

  • Madonna is awesome!

  • And shes been there for a day?.....

  • @MANdonnaTransvestite

i'd like to see you sell better

  • She's still alive????

  • @PokerPlum hahahha so true

  • Does she still even live over here

  • Madonna may be acting all prim and prissy but you guys are evil okay just evil when she's gives so much money to charity an hasn't killed anybody who cares what you bitter idiots think okay ad just for the record nit wits d bags Madonnas accent is like fraizer mid Atlantic or tranlanstic half British half American eunaciating like oprah dumbasses go to school get a life get educated retards

  • Screw all the haters you a holes I love Madonna with all my heart she is the # 1 pop female pop star of all time her mom passed away when she was 5 her mother spike to her in French when she was a little girl. She's half french Canadian and Italian so she's educated and fluent in Latin languages such as Spanish French Italian also she's a good mother and humanitarian so that's why's she's so dainty.

  • Charlize Theron does it too- she is South African and hides her accent 24/7

  • thing is no one in Britain speaks like that. Where the hell is she getting that accent from? lol

  • why the fuck do americans mock british people? one of my friends is from sheffield and he gets this shit all the time. aussies get it bad too.

  • don't give a shit what she sounds like the woman is a legend

  • @PokerPlum You're the wanker. People can speak HOWEVER they like, it doesn't matter were they're from. I'm English, and i want to call my friends 'Dude' and say 'Awesome' I CAN, and NOBODY can stop me.

  • @1202noz1202 shut up

  • @shaylahill455 How about you shut up.

  • @1202noz1202 good one

  • david Beckham does this too but the other way around

  • I mean talking in a different accents is fun but its like represent where your from

  • Shes talking like this to play around with the media and perception. She wants our attention and she got it.

  • Last time I checked Michigan is in the states no uk

  • roffffffffffl

  • LOL PROSTITUTEDONNA.

  • who is she? :D

  • Actually, I agree with some of the Americans posting here - I hate it when people become pretentious and talk like someone from another country. A lot of Brits do it here (you should hear a Brit saying "Hey dude", it honestly makes you cringe)

  • @JanineRobin

are you serious? people there really say that? omg.

  • @JanineRobin the only people i know who say dude say it as a joke. It's either mate, mukka, but, boyo, boss etc etc lol

  • I think this is hilarious! i work with a manager that does the same lol

  • Dumb whore... she's probably thinking "I know what will make people think I'm smarter than I actually am! I'll use a fake british accent!" What a cunt, LOL!

  • @zimmyzimgir Dumb whore is also that bitch u call "mom" for spreading her legs and not using condoms...look a the piece of shit that came out.

  • cut her some slack man. you pick up an accent i you've been living around it for a long time.

  • @omgcrayonz Except she hadn't picked up any accent, it was put on. It wasn't a cross between an American and English accent either as I know how that sounds as well. I've lived in London and am married to a Londoner and I'm telling you she's deliberately trying to put on a fake English accent and failing horribly. She's trying to do the quick starts and stops but she's doing it all wrong, and she's trying to put on Londoner vowels but she's way off. Why do you think the audience is laughing?

  • @subtrafusel

Yes, exactly. I know someone who came to America will a full-force British accent, but it slowly became a mix of British/American, then eventually more American than it was British.

No one goes from talking with one accent one minute, then a completely different accent the next unless they're faking it. That's not how people adopt new accents.

  • there is no such thing as a british accent ITS A COCKNEY (ENGLISH) ACCENT

  • @HardShaunSeries haha british have COCKney accents, FAGS!!!!

  • @805fillmore what about scots and irish and welsh you fucking dimwit 9/11HAHA

  • @HardShaunSeries wow 9/11 im in california it didnt affect me haha jokes on u

  • @HardShaunSeries When will the dumb english cunt's realize that not everybody living in the United States was affected by 9/11.

  • @zimmyzimgir I don't think you could name four English people that ever thought that, calm the fuck down

  • @Tarn1968 ho! sit your ass down. You're just mad because your broke ass is still in the projects.

  • wow. a fake wanna be jew and a fake wanna be brit all rolled up in one mixed with a nice helping of SLUT

  • THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A BRITISH ACCENT UNLESS YOU MEAN A COLLECTION OF ACCENTS FROM BRITAIN

grrrrr it annoys me SO much when people say that!!!!

  • @princessclairey Umm, a British accent is any accent that comes from Britain. People usually use it synonymously with English accent, but it would technically include the Scottish, Welsh and N. Irish accents as well.

  • @wankmeoff Yes. Please read my whole comment. I said "unless you mean a collection of accents from Britain". I am from England so I would know.

  • I used to think she was English...

  • @Runakunapa i just find it seems like everyone on the internet has either a phD or Master's... and many of the "psych majors" tend to like to tell people to kill themselves.... just testing the waters....

  • you are so articulate for "a person with a masters in psychology"... I think it is more like a phD in wiki...

  • I have an American and Bavarian accent because of where my family is from and going to a different area of Germany or Britain isn't going to change my accent at all and i still say ish for ich and möshte for möchte because meine Oma hat mich auf Bayrische dialekt gesprocht... even in icky Berlin (no pun intended)... it never changes Madge...

  • @HerrSpieldose yes it does, i grew up in the states and moved to germany. Met an american who has lived here for 30 years. He sounds like a person who has neither one or the other accent because he's mixed his english and german for decades. Even my accent has changed, but people usually assume i must be from Britain. although when i am around my family my old accent comes bck as if it never left. So yes. It can change. Doesnt have to , but it can. Oh and the word youre looking for is gesprochen

  • @RoRoFab79 - yes. think of christopher lambert. an american raised in germany. he sounds completely freaking weird

  • lmao

  • @Runakunapa Ive lived in America for almost 7 years love and I don't have even a smidge of an American accent. I'm British by the way, and I am the only British person here from my family, and I don't know any other Brits. So you're talking crap.

  • she' an italian from the Michigan ghetto...guess she has issues since she decided to dye her hair blonde and get a fake british accent

  • @Runakunapa

please this bitch spent 6 months is asia and did not come back with an Asian accent...Madonna is soooo fake

  • im 17 right, my whole life i thought she was fucking english LOL i honestly though she put on the american accent just for singing, like most people do!

  • I hate her fake accent. Listen to some of her interviews from the 80's and listen to her here. Such a fake ass accent for a fake ass Hollywood, Bullshit, actress. She is so over-rated and it makes me sick how people look at her like she's a Goddess. She changes her style to adapt to what is being played on the radio so she can sell more records....doesn't even write her own songs. I can't stand people like her. Icon my ass!

  • @RealAmericanHero420 Wow, hateful ignorance is bliss for some people. Pick up a Madonna album sometime and see just how many songs she "does not write"....

  • faaaaaaaaaaake

  • should we be apologizing to the british people for making them put with madonna? or is madonna supposed to be america's way of saying fuck you to the brits?

guy ritchie was an awesome director before he met madonna, but his movies have sucked ever since his marriage to her.

    coincidence?

  • WHY does she do that??

  • HAHAHAHAAA! She's such a phony and a huge A hole now since she's old and mad about it!

  • PIANO TEACHER plays MADONNA DANCE MUSIC !

  • why does everyone say that is wat us brits sound like? im from britain and i dont sound all posh like people say we do - im from North Wales and no i dont have a welsh accent ( thats mainly south) yeh people from south England speak like thtbut we have wales scotland and ireland as well - i mean cheryl cole dont speak like tht does she?

  • @xxDJEJxx oi i'm from kent and I don't speak that posh lol XD

  • Lots of people put on an American accent to appeal to Hollywood, e.g. Portia De Rossi, Martin Henderson, Anna Paquin... etc. It's about time an American stuck an apple in their gob to sound British.

  • 3 seconds cmon....dude

  • this 3 second video has over 350,000 views?? wow.. lol 0_o

  • why hate such a lovely woman?

  • Comment removed

  • when you live abroad you always get the local accent and Madonna lived in London for 8 years. You are all totally pathetic. she's been famous for decades she don't need to fake an english accent for publicity.

  • So stupid

  • Madonna sold 215 000 000 albums ww : respect !

  • Madonna rocks !

  • why doesn't she retire already

  • @TimiHendrix195 because she is an idiot ? And shes Dead?

  • @TimiHendrix195 mmm maybe because you and 10 more like you won't stop talking shit about her lol Silly people

  • @TimiHendrix195 Becuase she's still too busy making incredible music.

  • HA HA!!! She's so fake.

  • this was on cnn....

  • You are all totally PATHETIC haters ! when you leave abroad you always get the local accent. Madonna lived in the UK from 2001 to 2008.that's why.

    Now FUCK U ALL!

  • @MANdonnaTransvestite MADONNA TOPS ALL TIME ARTIST BILLBOARD LIST

MADRIAH CUNTREY LAST ALBUM JUST GOT CANCELLED FLOOOOP

  • betch lol

  • I dont get whats so bad about people wanting to change their accent or their style or what they do. Theres nothing wrong with talking a certain way cause you want to. I dont see anyone crticizing eminem.

  • Because an accent is something that comes naturally from where you were raised. By putting on a different accent you are faking what you really sound like, which means you are faking yourself.

  • @ATKillZ NO you always get the local accent from where you live. at that time Madonna was living in London. she lived there 8 years. Please don't be so sure of yourself when you are just a HATER.

  • @sticky2sweet Eminem is different from Madonna. Eminem's accent isn't fake. He sounds American and was a white trash street kid and that's what he sounds like, lol. So no, don't compare Eminem to Madonna. Eminem is real.

  • sooo bad

  • that sucks horsie penis

  • shes stoopid fuck u this planet and ev1 who lives on it is stoopid

  • @MrKuzzSimons because shes being FAKE!!

  • @MrKuzzSimons

an accent is something that is natural from where you live not something you can choose

  • really hate her for some reason lol

  • Well she could of been faking it or maybe not i dunno because i youse to have a friend who would sort of put a lot of enphisis on his words( i don't really know how to explain it)and i ended up picken a bit of it up.I did this for quite a while until my mom called me out on it, then i gradually stopped doing it.I really have no idea if this can happen with accents because ive just about lived in canada(I was born in the U.K winchester)my whole life

  • you can tell it's fake though, its fades out. and it's not like she's lived there for ten years, ppl dont adjust that quickly

  • Jesus god wtf is it with fuckin Americans and fake english accents. seriously, do the english REALLY think it's THAT cool to have an accent.

  • yeah for some reason we think it's really cool. i was at an adicts show and my friend heard someone in the audience and said that girl is automatically cool. i thought it was a stupid thing for my friend to say but i didnt really pay much attention, i mean i was at an adicts show!!!

  • No, in her case, it's not b/c she's hasn't 'adopted' any accent at all. If she had, she would be consistent during entire interviews and speeches but that's not the case. She can't properly enunciate most words so her "accent" waxes and wanes. In fact, her feigned accent is so poorly executed that she comes very close to sounding like a bad actress reading lines for a British speaking role. She's also been doing this nonsense since the late 80s, long before she lived abroad.

  • dumb bitch decides to all of a sudden put on an accent?

loool how stupid can you get

  • @hobosown Listen dumb ass, when yopu live abroad you always get thje local accent. madonna lived in London from 2001 to 2008. try to think before you comment a video. thx.

  • @pooriahsux Not true. Shes putting it on. I've lived in Scotland longer than she lived in England and I still have my english accent. Granted I picked up slang and certain words but I still have my accent. She's fake.

  • geeeeeeeeeez.

    fake.
