When you do a cover/tribute it's for fun or to honour one's insipiration. It should be possible to identify, but still inlcude something different than orginal. So I think that saying "Don't play unless it's played by Cliff's style" is meaningless. If the bassist is not Cliff Burton himself, he doesn't make cover better by playing it like Cliff.
