@calimntgirl34 They will have many different names. They could also be called sewing needles. I prefer the tapestry needle because the point is dull. Sewing needles will work too.
@Rebeccahanne100 If you look to the right of this page, you will see a thumbnail for a video called "Oblong Crochet Ear Flap for Hat or Cap". Click on that for the video.
@luviyi if u want longer ones just keep on increasing ...like it was one single crochet and then in the next stitch....and then it became 2single crochet and 2 in the next.....so just keep increasing till it becomes the width and length u want....im not sure though coz im still a beginner xP......but when i try things like that it work so u should give it a try ^^
i love watching your vids. you are so thorough in your teaching! you have taught me how to make a few things. LOL! i'm working on the earflaps for my hat now and then it's houseslippers!!!
can you send me a link on how to do a semi/half circle for an amigugurumi bear i am making i need it for the ears,or should i just do a full circle and sew it on so you can only see half of it?
These will work great for a bear. They are made separate. Just do less rounds for a smaller ear. You can shape them by sewing the flat section closer together. The link to the written instructions is posted to the right of the video below my channel image under the "MORE INFO".
That may be from where you are placing your stitches. You can solve that by doing a row of single crochet across the uneven edge. The single crochet will cover them right up.
You would make a chain, crocheting around your chain, increasing at one end, crocheting down the other side. The other end of your chain will remain even and flat.
I want to make a pacman headband is there a way i could use this pattern for the pacman?

How do you add the tie string/ropes for the hat with earflaps? I have tried and they come out looking stupid!

Thank you, I appreciate the comment. I also have the oblong ear flaps posted if you are interested in them.
tjw1963 2 years ago
this may sound stupid, but how do you attach them to the hat? i'm new to crocheting and trying to make a hat for my 8 month old.
ashleyyyynoel 2 years ago
You just sew them to the hat with your yarn. Just a basic whip stitch will work.
tjw1963 2 years ago
I just did it and i did only two rows and i worked out great you are a crochet genius...

why are you using an f hook
parkourdude2 2 years ago
I am using 3-ply yarn so that was why I used the F size hook.

Is there any way to make them longer? The best I can describe the shape is Goofy's Ears-Long and slightly wide.
XaldinDemyx 3 years ago
You can crochet along the flat edge with several rows of single crochet. I will work on an oblong shape for a future tutorial.
tjw1963 3 years ago
Have you created the oblong shape tutorial yet? I would be interested in learning that too.
daligoddess2006 3 years ago
Could you please explain how? I've tried and I keep making mutant earflaps.
gleeman34 3 years ago
You would make a chain, crocheting around your chain, increasing at one end, crocheting down the other side. The other end of your chain will remain even and flat.

Thank you very much. Your videos are incredibly helpful.

Is there any way to make the earflaps longer without making them wider? (Can you make earflaps that are more ovular instead of perfect half-circles?)
gleeman34 3 years ago
Yes, it can be done.
tjw1963 3 years ago
thank you for doing both of your video. i just made a half circle along with you. It really helped me out
smsnsms032406 3 years ago
You are welcome. There will be a video showing how to sew earflaps on the cap if you are interested. It will follow this one.
