Since I've seen a lot of people getting great help here I thought I'd give it a try. My tv is a Samsung HL-S4266W, its a 42'' dlp.
When I connect it to my PC the sound buzzes a lot and the screen flicks on and off frequently. I can see the computer display on the TV but it constantly goes on and off. I've tried changing the resolutions, downloading the most current video card drivers but nothing has helped. Any suggestions? thanks!
Maybe I didn't hear her correctly, but did she say FIFTY dollars for a VGA cable?! BS! They're like five dollars.
This guide failed to specify that you have to set your computer's output resolution to that of your monitor. Usually 1366by768 for "720p" monitors. 1600someby1080 for "1080p" monitors. And, no you don't need an expensive wireless specialty "nControl". No novelty items are required. You actually get a good remote if you buy a "Media Center PC". I use xp and 2003/2004 media center.
I think the focus is that anyone can use their home PC and that is less expensive than buying a MediaPC. A brand new Inspiron from Dell is $299 while the cheapest MediaPC is at least 50% more. A buddy of mine at Microsoft said that the NControl is going to be about $20 so that's not very expensive at all.
OK, so i bought a VGA (on 1 end) RCA (red, blue, green) on other end cord (have and HD tv also) and i hook it up to my desk top, but i cant get picture....
You need to set it up for multiple monitors (assuming that this is an extra video card), then select in the control panel which one will be primary, then BAM! You have your high definition computer monitor and reasonably high definition television!
To get the thing to work i needed a TV tuner thing, because (this is what i got told) my TV is sooo old (2001-ish) that it doesnt recognise the signal my computer is giving off. If i were to buy a $150 TV tuner it would work just fine. Also, my comp didnt have a dedicated video card, which if you dont have one (once again... this is what im told) your comp wont have a dual monitor mode...i think.
Are you sure your TV doesn't have VGA input (It might say RGB)? If not, you can go to Yahoo Shopping and search "VGA TV converter" and you will find several converters for less than $40.
You don't need a dedicated video card because dual-display is not necessary. Just hook your computer up directly to your TV. You might want to have a monitor handy to go back and forth from but you don"t need it displayed on both monitors simultaneously. Like the video says you can also get a switch for $7
Just to set the record straight, if you buy a Component adapter video card for your computer, it will work with ANY high definition television set. MOST High definition tellies have a VGA slot as specified by LastBo above this post, but do NOT buy a VGA to composite converter. Composite is not to be mixed up with component.
Composite=640x480i=crap
Component=1366x768=good (sometimes it is more than 1366x768)
VGA is the same.
But think about it, a 1280x1024 (5:4) square monitor beats both!
Yes, VGA and RGB are the same. You do need a separate cable for audio. You need an audio cable like the one at the top of the picture at time 2:13 of the video. As you can see, the small end matches your computer audio and the other end is the Left and Right that connect to the audio cables that you use with your TV.
HDMI is automatic. If you have a place to plug the same cable on both the TV and the PC then you're good to go. There are even some USB to HDMI converters. With HDMI you don't need separate audio hookup.
Please help! What is better? I can connect my computer to tv with VGA....but is a cable from vga to hdmi better quality or basically the same exact thing?
Once you get to VGA, the quality is basically the same. VGA, DVI and HDMI look exactly the same to the human eye. It's kind of like the difference between 720p and 1080p, supposedly better but you'll never be able to tell.
Never be able to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p?? That depends very very much on the TV you're using. To some it can make a huge difference.
I go to CES every year comparing the best and biggest TVs in the world side by side and I have never met anyone that can tell the difference under controlled conditions. Most electronics stores don't even use 1080p inputs on their displays (If they thought there was a big difference, they would do a side by side but no one does). Now 120 HZ vs 60 HZ with rapid panning motion (like in a football game on a long pass play) is a big difference. Check it out side by side when you get a chance.
i attempted to connect my pc to my tv through both svideo and rca and when I switch over to clone display the television flickers for a second and then goes blue. The tv is a 65" medallion Mitsubishi and the video card is a NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT. Does anyone have any suggestions as how to possibly remedy this situation?
my graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 6100GT lower then urs i had the same problem pal firstly when i connected the picture came up then the picture went i was then told to right click on desktop an the going to the NVIDIA control panel i then played with the resolution on my pc monitor an tried them all on my tv until one worked on my 32inch tv hope that helps pal
Just bought the video and audio cord but the TV won't recognise the laptop. I've plugged in the yellow cable tried all the av channels but nothings coming up. Can anyone help?
i have problem please help any one who can solve it. When my laptop is connected to pc and i play the movie with VLC or windows media player, i can see view in laptop but on TV you can see just that time is going but screen is black. any ideas?
i have some movies on my pc, that i want to show on my tv :/

You need to set it up for multiple monitors (assuming that this is an extra video card), then select in the control panel which one will be primary, then BAM! You have your high definition computer monitor and reasonably high definition television!

Thanx everyone for the Help!
I unfortunately figured out my problem... My TV is way too old and my computer too new.
I need to buy a TV that is newer and has HDMI... sooo easy that way.
Thanx everyone :)

I thought you said it was HD! If its HD, by all means use component cables. Same quality as HDMI but cheaper and more universal.
2BunnyReturns 2 years ago
Thats what i thought too... but no dice.

Trust me i looked into everything i could... and no dice.
Just buy a TV with HDMI and be done with it lol. Also, no, you dont need a dedicated vid card.. but it sure helps.
I gave up ;)
Thanx all for ur feed back.

Just to set the record straight, if you buy a Component adapter video card for your computer, it will work with ANY high definition television set. MOST High definition tellies have a VGA slot as specified by LastBo above this post, but do NOT buy a VGA to composite converter. Composite is not to be mixed up with component.
Composite=640x480i=crap
Component=1366x768=good (sometimes it is more than 1366x768)
VGA is the same.
But think about it, a 1280x1024 (5:4) square monitor beats both!

d o u still need to have a moniter?

is VGA the sane as RGB? and do u need a seperate cable 2 get audio? if so, what?
REEVE1000 2 years ago
Yes, VGA and RGB are the same. You do need a separate cable for audio. You need an audio cable like the one at the top of the picture at time 2:13 of the video. As you can see, the small end matches your computer audio and the other end is the Left and Right that connect to the audio cables that you use with your TV.

ok, thanks dude. went out this morning and got the VGA cable and got a Stereo 3.5mm Jack Lead. all works fine. woooooo

My solution cost me around 16 bucks.
This includes 3 cables:
A regular 4 pin S-Video to RCA.
To avoid possible signal conflicts on some PCs i bought the RCA plug for the svideo cable.
And finally theres the audio to RCA cable with white and red audio jacks on the other side.

hey, whit the HDMI Cable can u just, HDMI cable PC-Tv or how it works
GTASAboy2 3 years ago
does it work with hdmi?
martin9457m 3 years ago
HDMI is automatic. If you have a place to plug the same cable on both the TV and the PC then you're good to go. There are even some USB to HDMI converters. With HDMI you don't need separate audio hookup.

Please help! What is better? I can connect my computer to tv with VGA....but is a cable from vga to hdmi better quality or basically the same exact thing?
thefedexpope 3 years ago
Once you get to VGA, the quality is basically the same. VGA, DVI and HDMI look exactly the same to the human eye. It's kind of like the difference between 720p and 1080p, supposedly better but you'll never be able to tell.
lastbo 3 years ago
Never be able to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p?? That depends very very much on the TV you're using. To some it can make a huge difference.
Crozz22 2 years ago

Does anyone have any suggestions as how to possibly remedy this situation?
ericemeryshulman 3 years ago
Try lowering the refresh rate and resolution for your tv output. (Go to start->control panel->nvidia control panel->Change Resolution)

I connected my computer to tv by using S-video. The picture looked sharp on my tv, however the screen flickers.
mstoons 3 years ago
If you have a decent graphics card with DVI go HDMI/DVI. You wont have the screen flicker then
