@daysoftomorrow it''s mounted on a regular flange-rimmed snare drum, but gives the sound of a rimshot off a wood-rimed snare drum. It's advantageous because wooden snares lose sensitive characteristics when played near the edge. I really don't know what it's called but I gotta get one!

just so you know, its actually a Remo Tunable Sound Shape, its essentially a marching snare with no shell. So it's easier to place in your set-up, or just set it on top of your floor tom like Jojo does here.

I've seen him use it before, but I can never get a clear answer on what it is. I'd love to know. That's sad, Jojo and his band doesn't deserve that. He's unbelievable on drums, for sure, but I think he should focus more on DANCEABLE drumparts. In this case, less is more. Just my opinion.
