Just played the demo, it's actually pretty awesome, the new mechanics are interesting but the story kinda lies and doesn't relate to FF13, maybe just because it's a demo? Whatever. Still great =D (It's on the PSN Store under Latest Demos)
I like all FF games, honestly, with FFVII (no offense) being my least fave and X my fave. Oh, yeah, for those who don't like the battle system's constant pressing of 'x', think about the old ones where you have a menu and you select 'battle', then 'attack'. I think that's constant pressing to me. As for a release for VII, I doubt they'll make one. I don't like VII but I'll play a remake. XII is just a peak into the future, move with the times. Sorry.

FF 1 - 7 were made by square soft (known for open world) 8 was after they fused with i think it was called enix (who was know for more of a straight forward no side stuff thing) then 9 they broke apart and squaresoft made it. then they mixed permanently bringing a different style of game play such as no leveling up just kind of gaining points XD

@TheScottishRocker After playing the Japanese version I would recommend you try this game out. I hated XIII but this game is very different, I think the demo gives a VERY bad impression. On the whole this is a lot better than XIII with the battle system being one of the only drawbacks imo.

For 13-2 i think in time i can get used to this moster taming and training. I mean it is fresh and having cinematic button interaction will be nice big plus on that to me. The storyline is probably goin to get pretty complex later on especially since some decisions will effect the end game result. I liked FF13's battle system my favorite in the series to date..gotta love challenges. And i am sure Serah will have a large importance in the storyline unlike Vaan(FF12)
was 13 linear and more straight forward then past titles...yep. There was so many radical changes made to the system that is why there was so many tutorials on the game. IF you was a really good FF series player you wouldn't use the "auto command". But it is nice to have there for people that are new to the series just in general or nubs :D. Also no town exploration and side games but hey it's ok at least square can say they made an FF without those elements,
And for all the haters of the modern FF and prefere the older ones, buy them and stop complaining. Square Enix will not stop making the modern just to please you. Hell i love the old school FF, but I like the newer ones as well.
People complaining about the game just want to hate at this point. I wanted to hate but I actually thought the demo was really cool. I think it was much ebtter then FF13s beginning. I had a lot of fun the battles were challenging, there was more cuztomization, and in all it was really cool. Only complaint is that the graphics are easily worse I don't know why maybe it's becuase it was a demo but they definately looked a step down. Overall I'd say a 9/10 im buying this game.
@TheXXLethal The first game had quite a bit of customization too, but there were some things that really stood out and there wasn't even a single reason why you wouldn't do it that way. The woman combo in FFXIII was great. Sazh, Lightning/Vanille, Fang was a great combo too. The other two really didn't stand out all that much. They weren't bad, but they weren't as good as the other ones.

@xSpellSingerx Maybe, maybe not. Don't care. I'll play it. Some people said Mystic Quest is crap, but it's in my opinion one of the most memorable ones. There wasn't a lot of story in it, and the one that actually was there was weak. However, the environments, the soundtrack, the gameplay, the whole layout of the game was brilliant. The only flaws in my opinion was lack of sidequests, which aren't even something I'd expect, and a weak storyline.
sadly, i've never played a final fantasy game. ever. i've just heard of it, seen pictures and characters from it ( kingdom hearts is were i saw characters like cloud, basically the only character i know from this series ) and watched people play it. :(
@SonicSrikr You're missing out. If I were you, I'd play FFIX, as it's a homage to all the games prior, then possibly IV, and VI, as they are two of the best. If you wish, play VII, as it is a good game, but it's ridiculously over-rated. FFVIII is good too, but many don't like the combat system (however, this is the first I played, and LOVED), then FFX (though I've a major gripe with this. It's the first without just BGM and Textbox, with makes me QQ, ha - Good game though). Ofc, XIII before this
@SonicSrikr Don't play 13 first...you might not want to play another. Start with 6 or 7. Can't go wrong there. 13 is argueably the worst FF ever. 7 is the one with Cloud. You've missed out on some awesome games. Everyone needs to experience 7 at least once. Ahhh, I wish I could play 6 again for the first time. But really...anything 1-9 is pure awesomeness. 9 and 12 pretty bad ass too.
OnE of my gripes against ff 13 is that this one feels sci-fi and not much of fantasy. Storyline doesn't seem that interesting... I'm not trying to be a hater but to me this final fantasy doesn't cut it to me. I wish they do a storyline about the summoning monsters as the main story line. Like shiva, ifrit or odin. And play them from their point of view. And they are stoping the humans from using their powers. Idk... Lol.

Hopefully they changed it where if the leader of the group dies it won't be game over! That was a major down turn in XIII. I liked the story and gameplay in XIII. This looks promising!
@artiztikbear They did. But you only get to play as Noel or Serah throughout the whole game. U only play as Lightning for the first 17 minutes of the game
I feel most players/critics of XIII have focused too much on the town and NPC aspect of the game. Rather than embracing the linear aspect, which has actually enriched the gameplay in terms of missions (which essentially are sub objectives/sidequests). This eliminates the neccesities for towns which were used as essentially - subobjectives - or time killers, which you do plenty of in XIII (time killing) by grinding levels. The only decision you have to make is whether or not you're strong enough
Serah looking for Lightning on the sequel, in X-2 you become Yuna looking for Tidus... laking ideas at Square Enix, and not even going at the looks of so many characters being 99% similar in different versions

The reason most ppl hate FF13 was not due to the "simple" battle system.. it was because for the first 3 hours you didn't progress at all, there was no NPC and the Maps was just a simple corridor. also when you finally got to explore freely the world was limited to 1 area.. Hearing that they'll add NPC and more areas could make 13-2 a better game then 13 was. and Yes I did 100% the FF13. I'm looking forward to see if they can "fix" the game or not.
@oLawlieto By 100% I hope you mean by completing the storyline, getting all/best upgrades on weapons and armour, unlocking everything in the crystarium, and completing all the side-quests? If you did then you deserve a medal but only if you dd. As for me, I finished the story but did not go far from there. The end game content was just... too boring. Which, imo for a console game(or any rpg) is not a good thing.
@Sainare yeah I upgraded all weapons, Competed all side missions.. (which was actully more fun then the original game itself believe it or not) and I got all characters to lvl 5 in all jobs.. though after doing that I never played the game ever again.. What they say FF13-2 will be should have been in the first game from the start IMO. Thats why I'm looking forward to see the game, though I'll only buy / rent the game when it fall flat in price..

My only beef.. why the fuck is the atb still in the middle of the screen. that shit would be way less annoying if it was on the bottom. Should have been an obvious fix to the battle system..

@irishrepublican9111 the giant hand is actually one of the bosses that you face, according to the storyline, by the name of Atlas. Atlas is kind of like the main boss for the first part to recover one of the characters of the first game, her name is Lightning. The only reason the rest of his body isnt completely showing is that he wasnt at full power yet. Hoped this helped! Happy gaming!

@NateVonGrimm they do not despise Versus because it had other batlle system,but because the game focuses on batlles mostly.You know that RPG is all about?Its about playing a ROLE.In a good RPG,Leveling up and fighting is very cool,but you cant do the same trhough 60 hours:RPG fans like exploration,mini games,puzzles,many side quests etc.and good story.I think that FF Versus will have a good story,but im quite concerned about gameplay.
The only reason there is a XIII-2 is because when they created FFXIII, they had so much resources left over that they were able to make a second game out it (being FFXIII-2). But despite them creating a squeal, it will never be as good as Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
Just to note, I did enjoy playing FFXIII. Story line was really interesting and the job system was brilliant.
@NateVonGrimm yeah versus will absolutely pwn 13-2. i understand the top geniuses in square is working on it, including the guy from KH, which explains it simularies in it's battle system with KH. you can even use the surroundings to your advantage it seems and it's overall mor dymanic. see an explosive near a monster? pick the dude with a gun and blow it up, see a guy in a mech? kill him, hop in, and pwn anyone in your wayxD i can't wait for versusxD

It's really annoying that FFVersusXIII isn't going to be apart of the FF series considering with what I've been hearing and seeing about it, It's going to be the next FFVII. There's so much hype for it, yet SE look so down on it =/ Really disappointed by them for making that call but they'll regret it in the end. Versus has taken a lot of elements from the KH series and I think it's going to make a difference to future FF games.

What they don't realize is that the creator of the 'Kingdom Hearts' series is directing this game. And their keeping it as little as possible because it's not their main concern. Their too busy working on the FFXIII-2 release and Final Fantasy Type-0. Versus won't be out for at least (I'm guessing) 1-2 years... =/
@TheInfamousVideo Well judging from what Square have said, They are integrating the Kingdom Hearts battle system with FF. I enjoyed Kingdom Hearts and by looking at the teaser videos, It looks incredible. I have high hopes for the game. It is all just opinion though.
@JamesDillonn I don't see how it is lame. It beats the constant turn based attack system. Having free control of your character makes the fighting experience a lot more tense. You have to think quick. Plus you can pull off some good looking moves as well. Play some Kingdom Hearts. You'll grow to like it. Also Versus XIII isn't going to be part of the series. Hense 'Versus'. That's why there is a change in battle system. Different director.

The story lines in almost all of them are the same. Your the good guy fighting with the government, Now the government have declared you the enemy, You beat the bad guy. Government loves you again. It's like, Same story, different setting. So I do get bored of it but VersusXIII will hopefully break that.

@mrbloodshugar Lighting is almost another Cloud. And in all honesty, VII was my least favourite. I liked the idea, but the game was dull. FFX was my favourite. I would be stoked about the FFX re-make, just I lost my touch for Sony when the PS3 came out. And I don't want to get the Vita. I like it when company's make sequels and change the game play a bit. It's more interesting. I don't see the point in sequels if their isn't a change. Your just playing the same game with a different story line.

@NateVonGrimm Yeah, because I'm really going to go through all the comments just to find an answer to my own question. And the Skyrim hype was most likely because the past games of the Elder Scrolls series were good, so the fans expected greatness from Skyrim and they got just that. Sure, Versus 13 looks great and I do plan on getting it, but I'm not going to say it's better than Xiii-2 until I play both, but that's just me. Most people look at a trailer and decide a game is good from that.
@Ttadmer I'm not saying it's good from the trailer. Yes, the trailer looks amazing but I'm basing it from what they've said. Tetsuya Nomara is the director of FF VersusXIII. He directed the Kingdom Hearts games. They are integrating the battle system of KH into VersusXIII. Plus the story line is completely different to every other FF game released ALSO, with all the possibility of it being a full sized world like GTA. I'm basing this from what Tetsuya has done in the past.

people are anger at what FF 13 lacked that is standard in just about every RPG, final fantasy in particular. FREEDOM. RPGs are know for their open world to explore, FF 13 was very limited in that regrad. you are normally free to do what ever you want to your characters skills and sometimes have to go out of the way to get them all of this is is a huge part in what ppl love about RPGs instead they gave us a straight road to follow. FF13 wasn't bad, it just lacked standard features we are used to

@epique9 I can promise you that A LOT has changed. This is just a demo in the beginning when the characters only have a few attacks to choice between.
I have seen lots of gameplay videos and trailers, maybe a little too much. You should check some if you don't believe me.
1: Bigger exploration - no linear
2: You can jump
3: There are Towns
4: You can make pets join your battle
5: Cinematic Action
6: You can affect the story as a player, like player decision.
7: Faster battles

@xSpellSingerx Maybe, maybe not. Don't care. I'll play it. Some people said Mystic Quest is crap, but it's in my opinion one of the most memorable ones. There wasn't a lot of story in it, and the one that actually was there was weak. However, the environments, the soundtrack, the gameplay, the whole layout of the game was brilliant. The only flaws in my opinion was lack of sidequests, which aren't even something I'd expect, and a weak storyline.

sadly, i've never played a final fantasy game. ever. i've just heard of it, seen pictures and characters from it ( kingdom hearts is were i saw characters like cloud, basically the only character i know from this series ) and watched people play it. :(

@SonicSrikr You're missing out. If I were you, I'd play FFIX, as it's a homage to all the games prior, then possibly IV, and VI, as they are two of the best. If you wish, play VII, as it is a good game, but it's ridiculously over-rated. FFVIII is good too, but many don't like the combat system (however, this is the first I played, and LOVED), then FFX (though I've a major gripe with this. It's the first without just BGM and Textbox, with makes me QQ, ha - Good game though). Ofc, XIII before this

@SonicSrikr Don't play 13 first...you might not want to play another. Start with 6 or 7. Can't go wrong there. 13 is argueably the worst FF ever. 7 is the one with Cloud. You've missed out on some awesome games. Everyone needs to experience 7 at least once. Ahhh, I wish I could play 6 again for the first time. But really...anything 1-9 is pure awesomeness. 9 and 12 pretty bad ass too.

OnE of my gripes against ff 13 is that this one feels sci-fi and not much of fantasy. Storyline doesn't seem that interesting... I'm not trying to be a hater but to me this final fantasy doesn't cut it to me. I wish they do a storyline about the summoning monsters as the main story line. Like shiva, ifrit or odin. And play them from their point of view. And they are stoping the humans from using their powers. Idk... Lol.

I thought the paradigm mechanic was a refreshing new way of battling.
It worked like a charm, allowed you strategies and the action really came forward thanks to this.
I'm not sure the beasts in the party will work for me, a little bit too Pokemon in my book, but who knows, maybe it really kicks ass!
And if not, then the story line will surely interest me, which is the main reason I play FF games :)

I feel most players/critics of XIII have focused too much on the town and NPC aspect of the game. Rather than embracing the linear aspect, which has actually enriched the gameplay in terms of missions (which essentially are sub objectives/sidequests). This eliminates the neccesities for towns which were used as essentially - subobjectives - or time killers, which you do plenty of in XIII (time killing) by grinding levels. The only decision you have to make is whether or not you're strong enough

The reason most ppl hate FF13 was not due to the "simple" battle system.. it was because for the first 3 hours you didn't progress at all, there was no NPC and the Maps was just a simple corridor. also when you finally got to explore freely the world was limited to 1 area.. Hearing that they'll add NPC and more areas could make 13-2 a better game then 13 was. and Yes I did 100% the FF13. I'm looking forward to see if they can "fix" the game or not.

@oLawlieto By 100% I hope you mean by completing the storyline, getting all/best upgrades on weapons and armour, unlocking everything in the crystarium, and completing all the side-quests? If you did then you deserve a medal but only if you dd. As for me, I finished the story but did not go far from there. The end game content was just... too boring. Which, imo for a console game(or any rpg) is not a good thing.

@Sainare yeah I upgraded all weapons, Competed all side missions.. (which was actully more fun then the original game itself believe it or not) and I got all characters to lvl 5 in all jobs.. though after doing that I never played the game ever again.. What they say FF13-2 will be should have been in the first game from the start IMO. Thats why I'm looking forward to see the game, though I'll only buy / rent the game when it fall flat in price..

@irishrepublican9111 the giant hand is actually one of the bosses that you face, according to the storyline, by the name of Atlas. Atlas is kind of like the main boss for the first part to recover one of the characters of the first game, her name is Lightning. The only reason the rest of his body isnt completely showing is that he wasnt at full power yet. Hoped this helped! Happy gaming!

@NateVonGrimm they do not despise Versus because it had other batlle system,but because the game focuses on batlles mostly.You know that RPG is all about?Its about playing a ROLE.In a good RPG,Leveling up and fighting is very cool,but you cant do the same trhough 60 hours:RPG fans like exploration,mini games,puzzles,many side quests etc.and good story.I think that FF Versus will have a good story,but im quite concerned about gameplay.

The only reason there is a XIII-2 is because when they created FFXIII, they had so much resources left over that they were able to make a second game out it (being FFXIII-2). But despite them creating a squeal, it will never be as good as Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
Just to note, I did enjoy playing FFXIII. Story line was really interesting and the job system was brilliant.

It's really annoying that FFVersusXIII isn't going to be apart of the FF series considering with what I've been hearing and seeing about it, It's going to be the next FFVII. There's so much hype for it, yet SE look so down on it =/ Really disappointed by them for making that call but they'll regret it in the end. Versus has taken a lot of elements from the KH series and I think it's going to make a difference to future FF games.

What they don't realize is that the creator of the 'Kingdom Hearts' series is directing this game. And their keeping it as little as possible because it's not their main concern. Their too busy working on the FFXIII-2 release and Final Fantasy Type-0. Versus won't be out for at least (I'm guessing) 1-2 years... =/

@JamesDillonn I don't see how it is lame. It beats the constant turn based attack system. Having free control of your character makes the fighting experience a lot more tense. You have to think quick. Plus you can pull off some good looking moves as well. Play some Kingdom Hearts. You'll grow to like it. Also Versus XIII isn't going to be part of the series. Hense 'Versus'. That's why there is a change in battle system. Different director.

The story lines in almost all of them are the same. Your the good guy fighting with the government, Now the government have declared you the enemy, You beat the bad guy. Government loves you again. It's like, Same story, different setting. So I do get bored of it but VersusXIII will hopefully break that.

@mrbloodshugar Lighting is almost another Cloud. And in all honesty, VII was my least favourite. I liked the idea, but the game was dull. FFX was my favourite. I would be stoked about the FFX re-make, just I lost my touch for Sony when the PS3 came out. And I don't want to get the Vita. I like it when company's make sequels and change the game play a bit. It's more interesting. I don't see the point in sequels if their isn't a change. Your just playing the same game with a different story line.

@NateVonGrimm Yeah, because I'm really going to go through all the comments just to find an answer to my own question. And the Skyrim hype was most likely because the past games of the Elder Scrolls series were good, so the fans expected greatness from Skyrim and they got just that. Sure, Versus 13 looks great and I do plan on getting it, but I'm not going to say it's better than Xiii-2 until I play both, but that's just me. Most people look at a trailer and decide a game is good from that.

He directed the Kingdom Hearts games. They are integrating the battle system of KH into VersusXIII. Plus the story line is completely different to every other FF game released ALSO, with all the possibility of it being a full sized world like GTA. I'm basing this from what Tetsuya has done in the past.

people are anger at what FF 13 lacked that is standard in just about every RPG, final fantasy in particular. FREEDOM. RPGs are know for their open world to explore, FF 13 was very limited in that regrad. you are normally free to do what ever you want to your characters skills and sometimes have to go out of the way to get them all of this is is a huge part in what ppl love about RPGs instead they gave us a straight road to follow. FF13 wasn't bad, it just lacked standard features we are used to

@cualkercacaxDthe suit is weird almost like what baltheir wears in FF12 it's hard to describe lol but if they actually made suits like that i would actually start wearing them myselfxD. you'll see see what i'm talking about if you type in " final fantasy xiii-2 tgs 2011" the vids with them came out very recently:P
