Ok, Padilla is a sweet and brave woman. She is also gifted. She's a fantastic soprano for someone who's not professional and has no full training. She's a mother, works at home taking care of her family.
For those reasons she's awesome. But she's not a truly opera singer at top level. She lacks tecnique and training.

I agree that Barbara's voice is fuller and more mature but it is also an opera voice. Jackie is a classical crossover singer. Jackie's appeal over Barbara's is, at least right now, the fact that she has a childlike voice that has power and perfect pitch has a crystalline quality that is unbelievably clear and angelic. They are both great but different and Jackie will evolve into a stronger voice. If she can carry her angelic quality, it will be something really special and commercial!!

She's one of the most UNDER-rated singers on the face of the Earth. I look at world-famous British singers like Susan Boyle and Paul Potts, and even though they are both great singers they are not even HALF as talented as Barbara is. So imagine how much international attention she deserves to be getting!! It would be enough to give Lady Gaga a run for her money.

I just compared (with headphones) 3 people singing this song: (1) Barbara Padilla, (2) the 10 year old girl on AGT this year, and (3) Sarah Brightman. And Barbara Padilla wins hands down. It's amazing that she didn't win last year. BTW, if you like strong operatic singing, check out anything by Mario Lanza. Start with Granada on YouTube. Also, getting the movie The Great Caruso is awesome. The best singing ever in my opinion.

when jackie evancho sang this tuesday night all I could think of was Barbara singing this last year. And how much Jackie sucks compared to her, Barbara's voice is sooo much fuller. I realize part of that is the age thing, but considering everyone only loves Jackie so much because she's ten (If she were twenty it'd be less impressive) I feel it's fair game to criticize jackie in comparison to this marvelous talented lady.

Jackie has a crystalline clarity that is strong and yet carries a fragile vulnerability that is appealing commercially. It is an evanescent gift and we should enjoy it as such. It may not carry w. J into her teens and 20s.

She intends to study opera in Italy formally eventually but will content herself in making millions right now. I, personally, love Barbara's voice but commercializing these great "between genre" voices is not easy as they are neither rock nor pop and have a narrow niche and have to reach a broader audience. Jackie's does right now.

@davidneomi Dude, Jackie is only 10 years old! Whereas Barbara has had formal vocal training and she's been singing for a very long time. Speaking of Barbara, she's performing all over America and even internationally!! I'm going to see her sing in San Angelo, TX on Oct 2!!

I just compared (with headphones) 3 people singing this song: (1) Barbara Padilla, (2) the 10 year old girl on AGT this year, and (3) Sarah Brightman. And Barbara Padilla wins hands down. It's amazing that she didn't win last year. BTW, if you like strong operatic singing, check out anything by Mario Lanza. Start with Granada on YouTube. Also, getting the movie The Great Caruso is awesome. The best singing ever in my opinion.

@Light3740 Well, Sarah Brightman is not a real opera singer, she's actually a crossover artist. And Jackie Evancho is only 10 years old, so she has no real vocal training...but boy does she have a lot of potential! And Barbara has a master's in music from the University of Houston. So of course Barbara is the best!

when jackie evancho sang this tuesday night all I could think of was Barbara singing this last year. And how much Jackie sucks compared to her, Barbara's voice is sooo much fuller. I realize part of that is the age thing, but considering everyone only loves Jackie so much because she's ten (If she were twenty it'd be less impressive) I feel it's fair game to criticize jackie in comparison to this marvelous talented lady.

@narniaprincess05 Barbara is on FB! I have her on my FB and she gives us updates of where and when she's performing(and how to get tickets for her performances). I saw her on Oct. 2nd, she was absolutely incredible!!

@narniaprincess05 I'm not sure I understand your reasoning. Sure, Barbara is fantastic. I can't stop watching her videos. But saying that Jackie Evancho sucks, comparing her to Barbara? Makes no sense. Sure, if Jackie were 20, her performance wouldn't be as impressive. But she's 10, NOT 20. Wait and see if Jackie isn't just as good, if not better than Barbara in 10 years when she IS 20.

@narniaprincess05 Barbara's voice is truly a gift and a talent. That being said, her voice is great buy NOT UNIQUE, which separates Jackie from her .. Jackie's tends to have a quality that is enveloping and intimate while being powerful beyond her size. It is that quality that makes Jackie so much more popular and commercial, though Barbara may have a big future. She has a magnificent voice but it may not translate into a major financial success.

Of course she's more popular and has more commercial sucess, she's a child gifted with am astonishing voice, americans love that, but can't compete with a high class opera voice of an adult. Don't be silly.

If you read carefully, you will see that I did not compare the actual QUALITY of their respective voices but commented on the differences in their appeal to the masses. I doubt seriously that Jackie would even consider competing with Barbara on an operatic level as she seems genuinely pleased and surprised that she is so popular. This is an evanescent experience and all know that J may well be unable to carry her broad appeal with her as she matures.

@caravaggio31 You are being silly. I did not compare the quality of operatic power, etc between voices. Of course, B's voice is stronger and more mature, more truly operatic. I commented on the differences between their voices as to the broader appeal of J's voice over B's. Jackie has a crystalline clarity that is strong and yet carries a fragile vulnerability that is appealing commercially. It is an evanescent gift and we should enjoy it as such. It may not carry w. J into her teens and 20s.

@caravaggio31 It might be instructive to compare Barbara's voice to the appeal of Katherine Jenkins, currently the highest compensated classical crossover voice. She intends to study opera in Italy formally eventually but will content herself in making millions right now. I, personally, love Barbara's voice but commercializing these great "between genre" voices is not easy as they are neither rock nor pop and have a narrow niche and have to reach a broader audience. Jackie's does right now.

I am commenting on the differences in their commercial appeal. I love Barbara's voice but the commercial appeal is less than either Jackie's or Katherine's right this moment. Let's put you in a tighter spot. Taking a page from biz school, YOU comment on what would make J or K's voice more broadly commercial.

@caravaggio31 ... finalizing commentary, the quality of one's voice is only one factor in commercializing. Taylor Swift, for instance, hardly has the best voice among the genre of country, but she is by far one of the most commercial and awarded young performers on the scene. Your preference for Barbara over the other two singers would have greater weight if you were to respond with some degree of intellectual integrity and not simplistic visceral dismissal.

Right I'm ready to get absolutely slated here. But I really don't like her singing at all. It sounds piercing to me. She is absolutely beautiful, but I just don't like her voice. Didn't think much of chicken guy either though.

This has absolutely nothing to do with using cancer to gain sympathy to get votes. This woman has a voice comparable with many classical female singers and her story although moving does not distract from her great talent. She deserves to be in the final and should win it by a mile. My wife died 2 years ago from this terrible disease and I miss her greatly and she would have loved to have heard this wonderful woman singing, but then again maybe she has who knows.

this was my favorite performance from last season. everything about it: her voice, the choice of song, the hair & makeup, that incredible dress, the lighting, staging and camera work was -WOW.
