  • @hkurtblache Can you rewrite that? I have no idea what you're talking about. Who is the "you"in the first sentence?

  • OK, in that case: comment removed.

  • I don't agree with all of McKenna's theories but it is worthwhile to investigate and analyze as many theories and interpretations as possible, both from the metaphysical and the scientific perspectives, to best form your own. We build on each other's efforts with a whole lot of trial and error, also known as evolution.

  • If nothing else he is very entertaining :)

  • @m3phi570ph3135 yes.

  • Yes hes in the fucking bath.

  • bless you mr mckenna

  • @ajones123ful McKenna was not a teacher, but an author and someone who would sometimes talk to audiences, generally to entertain and stir thoughts. You don't need to believe anything he said. Yes, his lectures definitely contained a lot of speculation. If you don't like that, just ignore these videos.

  • @Jyotirveda2 exact...right on... ...that is what he is offering stirrings... ... ...an opportunity to re-think... ... ...& grasp the nature of thoughts own impacting potential possibilities!!!... ...& as you SUGGEST,,, "If you DON'T LIKE IT...DON'T LISTEN 'I!!!

  • @Jyotirveda2 we need people like him for those who truly believe there is any truth in this

  • @ajones123ful no one is saying he is 100% right fact of the matter is nobody knows BUT people who have used DMT or LSD have life changing experiences and wont look at life like everyone else anymore because they are slightly awakened to what this reality is maybe if you were a little more open minded you would see what lies behind these people you call "quacks". its a way of keeping those thoughts away from you because you are safe inside your bubble and thinking outside the box is scary for you

  • @ajones123ful lol.... its like you haunt every Terence Mckenna video.....

  • @ajones123ful but you have to agree that his prose stirs up the mind and creates interesting metaphisycal thinking.

  • did someone say atlantis......

  • The original Beautiful Mind.

  • This makes me have to pee.

  • IMAGINE all the PEOPLE............

  • love this guy

  • hmm hm .. hmm .. mhmm

  • this dude is a genius obviously but he reminds me of the scientist in the game half life. just the way he speaks lol

  • this dude is a genious obviously but he reminds me of the scientist in the game half life. just the way he speaks lol

  • @captainbatguano bo-dy

  • Terence was so good at communicating the truth, that if people listened to what he had to say with an open mind, you really don't need to take any drugs, his words do it. But if you are doubtful about what Terence is saying then maybe take something to allow you to see a bigger picture.

  • @tonytg909 Wel said !!

  • great speech, too bad it sounds like he is kinda recording this while having some major stomach issues. McKenna You can even give the best lectures while breaking down those stall wall barriers my friend.

  • @blakhok

    True Hallucinations. It's pretty good.

  • Does anyone know where I can get this in text, on the internet.

  • Remember the TV show "the stargate" ? This is true but not like that on the other side. There is a door. You can see it on DMT. I seen the logos on Salvia.

  • is he in the bath or something?

  • @whitezombie93: Read the description: "Sitting on the banks of the Chorrera river, Terence muses..." It's from an audiobook.

  • @whitezombie93 yes, playing with his rubber duckie. its where he does his best thinking.

  • HERE IS THE SOLUTION!!

    youtube .com/watch?v=4Z9WVZddH9w

  • I read Julian Jaynes' book "The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind" three times, each time more slowly. It may be the closest we'll ever come to a work of scientism that provides "a total explanation of man." I think it's the most honest, diligent and comprehensive effort we'll find in the field of psychology.

  • I believe that Consciusness has been there from the inception of the Universe. It could not be any other way. For what caused the universe but Conscousness. The human fbrains of primitive man could not process consciousness as well as thhrought ages. Consciousness is Spirit which the creator.

  • It sounds like someone is taking a really big bong hit in the background.

  • @PurpleNurpleUrple Nah, sounds like he is in the tub.

  • @AjunkoMilitak hes farting in the tub

  • @AjunkoMilitak "Sitting on the banks of the Chorrera river" pretty sure its not a tub...

  • @certifiedpet I know what the description says, my comment was a response to someone else's. I like ShamBuddahs' response better any way.

    :)

  • @PurpleNurp Oohhhh Yeeaahh, that would be moi - I'm sorry did it disturb you, my understanding is that when you listen to Terrence Mckenna you must be as far away from this "reality" as possible - IT'S THE LAW, the world would be a happier place if people would get out of their own way once in a while and OBEY THE LAW instead of joining the schizophrenic rule of REAL WORLD NON-SENSE that doesn't work - Sometimes you have to go a little NuTz to go sane and get a little high to get a better view!!

  • I used to take mushrooms without understanding psylocibin or the idea of botany. It might've been McKenna who compared the trip to a wild chariot ride through space. The fungus species most definitely traveled outer space to get here...I forget exactly how much I consumed recently but, it was the first trip that i really understood the meaning of. The mushroom demonstrated its ancestry and path to me and it was the most intense experience I've ever been a part of.

  • dennis works for Heffter institute. Funded by eugenicists such as ROCKEFELLER. it's the continuation of MK ULTRA (look it up, that's important to do before you think this is a good thing) under a different name. Dennis now works for the EVIL ONES. spread the word, people, truth must be known. MK-ULTRA, that's where all the missing MILK CARTON KIDS WENT for experiments on them with LSD STRAPPED TO CHAIRS AND BEDS!!!! This is who dennis works for now. C.I.A. criminal activity. fact! no debate!

  • Besides enlightening me, this video makes me want to pee.

  • @Edzelo haha yes!

  • Julian James is wrong - people behaved in ancient times just like they do now. people haven't changed much at all - thats why history repeats itself. Re: voices in the head, James is also wrong. He neglects spiritual reality and how we can hear in the dream state.

  • 9 people haven't eaten mushrooms

  • @NatureMusician haha.......classic. Good observation!

  • i really love the sound of splopping water...

  • All spirituality points to the same idea. Don't get worked up in the little differences.

  • According to Credo Mutwa, humans have been visited by Extra-terrestrials in the past (ancient astronaut theory coincides with his story).

He speaks of the Chitauri, 'Children of the Serpent' or 'Children from the Python' (and can also mean 'dictators') - that ancient race of Reptilians from the Draco constellation, as portrayed in Icke's books later on.

Credo says that the knowledge of these Reptilians was more widely known before the coming of the Europeans to Africa.

  • Those behind this invasion - the reptilian-human hybrid bloodlines* - targeted the shamans, he said. These were the carriers of ancient knowledge and verbal history and the Reptilian hybrids of the British Empire sought to delete the RECORD of Reptilians and to impose an invented history enforced by the christian missionaries.

  • In order to overcome this enforced suppression of ancient knowledge, secret societies were formed among the shamans.

There is a 6 hour interview with him called The Reptilian Agenda that is available both on DVD or @ Youtube and Google Video (compressed vdieo, great audio).

This guy is one of the remaining true shamans found across the globe. Shamans play a pivotal role in human society, IMO, and his knowledge should be reflected upon and not dismissed.

  • @GloomFate hahahaha

  • Is that a bong in the background?

  • @DanRioNY I think it's a river, judging by the description.

  • darkandsilent... Also "You cannot prove anything is real. You rely on your senses, and your senses are electrical impulses sent to your brain, which then forms an image, experience, perception, etc, in your mind." You do realize that science relies on the senses to prove things right?

  • @atheism103 then science must be just as silly and as nonsensical as the rest of life then, huh? :D

  • @atheism103 yes, but even if we are brains in a vat, the only logical way to react is based on our senses, and the scientific method, cuz is what give the most repeatable results.

  • darkandsilent, everything is subjective. Being objective is an illusion since our mind's can create entire realities that are just are real as what we generally accept as reality. In other words, it always comes down to the individual to determine what is real or what is not. General acceptance of a given issue doesn't necessarily mean that a non-generally accepted issue isn't.

  • EDIT:

"an create entire realities that are just as real as what we generally"

  • You cannot prove anything is real. You rely on your senses, and your senses are electrical impulses sent to your brain, which then forms an image, experience, perception, etc, in your mind. Since you rely on your senses, and not direct experience with that outside of the senses, you can prove nothing in an objective manner. Everything you believe real is a subjective, and assumed form.

  • we are still learning cheers junglesurf

  • I like his ideas on just introspection through hallucinogens and learning who you are, what it is to you to be you, things like that. I really could care less for describing physical phenomenon through psychadelics like attributing hallucinogens to aliens. That just seems inherently ridiculous given the nature of hallucinogens. They make you delusional to a degree, so to come out of it saying "aliens!" immediatly makes me feel a conspiracy theory vibe.

  • @zoogle1

"That just seems inherently ridiculous given the nature of hallucinogens." Why?

Last week, coincidentally enough (and for the first time), I came out of a trip saying "we're reptiles"... Like an alien race of some sort. I had looked my body and saw what it was... My arm looked like an alligator's for some reason.

  • once you break through its amazing, for some reason i feel like i shouldnt even be talking about it, but since that time in my life i feel as if i can read someone for who they really are, and even know what there thinking.

  • Well everything is rooted in the mind and overall consciousness of all. Sadly many of the people that encounter these psychedelics get stuck at the threshold "games" that at least the mushroom and dmt use as a cover up to hide from the recreationalist, the inexplicably profound ego-loss experiences.

  • If what people see under the influence of these psychoactive products was really just nonsense, then why does it continue so exponentially today as ever in history? New-age spritualism you say? If you were somewhat knowledgable about this huge subject of discourse. you would know that these encounters/experience and unadaltered informational experiences are anything but new. These things seen under the influence of these drugs are all rooted within our minds. TV, Internet, etc; rooted in mind.

  • @MarcantonyDL Of course drug use is not new, I never made that claim. That proves nothing, except maybe that humans have an innate desire to alter their consciousness, whether it be by getting drunk or tripping. And if you try to argue that people experiencing similar hallucinations indicates their legitimacy, I would say that any similarities are accounted for by the fact that humans have more or less the same brain structure, so ingesting the same molecules will have similar effects.

  • I've tried shrooms multiple times, as well as DMT and LSD. I don't understand why people interpret their experiences as anything other than their own imagination under the influence of a mind-altering substance. I mean, using mushrooms to communicate with aliens and making 2012 predictions!? Come on, this is crazy talk. I think McKenna is a really eloquent guy and I like his descriptions of his experiences, but all this pseudo-scientific new-age spiritualism is just as delusional as religion.

  • only when you find objectivity within the realm of subjectivity have you gained any wisdom.

  • it doesnt matter if youve taken them ... whats more important is .. DID YOU TAKE ENOUGH ? once you break through , youll see things differently ....

  • @OrgulloCriolloTV Hm, I ate 5+ g of mushies, measured out on a scale, and I didn't encounter the aliens, but maybe I wasn't getting good stuff. But you know what? Even if I did, I still would regard it only as a psychedelic trip, not intergalactic communication. And if I did start raving about aliens and 2012, I would hope my friends would call me on my BS and ask me to present evidence. Don't get me wrong, I think psychedelics are great tools for thought and introspection...(cont)

  • @OrgulloCriolloTV (cont) but once someone starts making physical claims about the universe without any evidence, then I think they're delusional.

  • yup

  • @OrgulloCriolloTV that and more so just opening up to it. its more about what you do with it. edgar cayce accounts possession as the equivalent of getting a lot of spiritual insight but not being able to make proper use of it. you must be wise, and wisdom is a lady. proverbs chapter 3!

  • @OrgulloCriolloTV I actually only need very little. in high school I used to eat too much because it was an ego thing. it was all about who could eat the most and get the highest... I went though a phase of not eating them thinking I would go crazy if I did, then someone showed me how to respect the mushroom and its been smooth since, but its not always about how much you take. go with your intuition and what feels right. if your not high enough eat more...

  • @veryshortname An ego thing? To see who could eat most? What the fuck? After one time of doing that it seems like you'd learn your lesson.

  • @Manwithcam well it wasnt specifically who could eat the most but usually it was all about who had a story to talk about how messed up they were... its not just in north america this happens. in mexico people do the same thing with mushrooms and peyote. misuse happens. who are you to judge me anyways? peer pressure can be a tough mold to break... you dont know who I am, where I come from or been through... but im happy its happened the way it has, makes me understand why things are so backwards

  • @veryshortname I wasn't judging you. I was just pointing out how stupid it would be to do something like that. And terribly ironic. Taking psychedelics as an 'ego-thing' hahaha

  • @Manwithcam maybe you werent judging me, it really doesnt matter either way(this is youtube)..thanks for pointing out how stupid I can be..numerous times.. however I am blessed enough to go out and pick several different types of mushrooms at certain times of the year (liberty caps, Qbenzies, amaneta or however you spell them) and give them to friends and share something that is good and that I understand..taking psychedelics as an ego thing is dumb but set an example instead of making fun...

  • @veryshortname Good thing you're spreading the love. Wasn't trying to be negative, it just struck me as humorous and grossly ironic. I try to set an example, but most people are too backwards and they automatically label tripping on shrooms or lsd as 'stupid' or 'harmful.' I keep to myself alot more these days, save a tight circle of friends. People 'out there' are just too idiotic & unreal to deal with most of the time. Luckily the internet is a refreshing reservoir of various opinions.

  • @Manwithcam I feel that.

  • @Manwithcam if you want to relate to people 'out there' in a more meaningful way you should check out Robert anton wilson talking about reality tunnels. Remember no perspective is objective, it's all subjective, all relative. People 'out there' aren't necessarily idiotic, they just see the world a different way, and you could learn something about yourself and the world if you view them as just having a different perspective than yours, instead of viewing them as idiotic and stupid and wrong.

  • @ecclesiasticous I've read the Cosmic Trigger series and Prometheus Rising and the Illuminatus. So I know Wilson and his reality tunnel talk. I didn't say people 'out there' are stupid, I said they automatically label any sort of drug taking, including psychedelics, as 'stupid' and 'wrong.' I realize they're viewpoint is just as rationalized as my own from their own perspective. I just wish more people would widen their realities instead of buying into conformist propaganda.

  • @OrgulloCriolloTV as is with any psychedelic! :D

  • @OrgulloCriolloTV Exactly! Thank you for pointing that out. It's about breaking through the barrier, not just "cracking" the barrier.

  • @OrgulloCriolloTV i took them BECAUSE i see things differently

  • thats an amazing experience. can i ask people who see this comment on how i can go about getting DMT? help me please.

  • where be you?

  • north york ontario canada

  • shit thats another country there

  • tool

  • I have to read that book!...Thanks for the post...

  • They say it was a demon, a sin against God, but I interacted with an alien entity in my own home. I have never had an experience like that before, and mind you, I am not new to Entheogens.

This was something else. It was real, too real.

  • lol

  • This is incredible.

  • @Coryduchesne : I love the TED videos; and must agree, with your observations. I find your choice of words though, to be very uplifting. I very much fit into many of those TED videos... as a type. I never thought of myself as hugely masculine, and a a grand risk taker; but I suppose I am. I do not fear to challenge, imagine, say; even if it makes me unpopular, or for whom the PHD is challenged. I even step outside my own thinking... if something should spark a new idea or concept; well mainly.

  • basically he states that a psylocibin trip is actually the basic manifestation of contact with intergalactic intelligent beings. fungi spores are the only life that can survive in a sub zero space like environment, which suggests that they exist elswhere in the universe and their uniqueness to any other plant material gives great speculation on their origins.

  • @rhombusskullvsteal not to mention fungal filaments are literally everywhere on earth it's there seed of intelligence

  • @rhombusskullvsteal He is not saying that at all, he says people like you are being Naive! Earth before spore not Spore before earth....humans....

  • @MrYoungmerlin I didn't say spore before earth what are you talking about...

  • @rhombusskullvsteal their ability to "exist elshwhere" is funny, we are here in the universe now and they exist because earth-tree-fruit- produced them here in the same universe not some alien universe that you connected him with. To clarify when does the your spore/alien begin contact with me/earth?

  • @MrYoungmerlin I didn't mean it like that, the experience itself seems alien because alien is anything that is outside of your normal realm of understanding, it puts you in a different mind set than normal and reminds you what matters. I know this because time and time again I have begged myself to remember what I knew on psychedelics and been manipulated back into the day to day ignorance. truth is we are all able to tap into this consiousness and mushrooms act as a tool to tap into it.

  • @rhombusskullvsteal Cool yes Indeed. Santa knows if youve been good or bad.

  • so basically a psylocibin trip is actually a rough manifestation of the presence of intergalactic inteligent beings. fungi spores are the only life that can survive in a sub zero environment, which suggests that they exist elsewhere in the universe. if you put yourself in the governments perspective it's easy to understand how great a threat this information is to the way our society operates and allows them to control and manipulate us. things are going to get alot more interesting.

  • It's really hard to know anything with much certainty (ever try to understand the periodic table or physics?) so when I hear McKenna mouthing off about what he believes, I can only shake my head. I don't know if he was a self deluded charlatan or a conscious charlatan, but either way, he really does seem like a charlatan.

  • yeah, we'll see. He says 2012 will be a big change... if it does occur, his accountability goes way up for me... he is interesting to listen to though

  • @coryduchesne

He only speaks from his inner experience, something most people don't, they speak from outer experience, being a result/victim of the environment instead of their own creation. Meaning they dont control themselves and has not the ability to change themselves either.

Clearer? Or do i sound just as deluded as Terence? I have never regret the day i tuned in to this revolutionary way of thinking. Hope you try it. Take care.

  • @Totalreformer, The only observations of Terence I find valuable are the ones that almost all good scientists and philosophers say. You don't need to do drugs to learn wise things. But you do need drugs to experience foolish things (e.g., visions of elves and what not). Well, I suppose having beautiful visions can be enjoyable, and if enjoyment is what you're after, then that's fine. But if you want any real insight into how the mind works, check out Oliver Sacks, Ramachandran, etc.

  • I can't recall me saying anything about drugs, can you?

You judge me too fast mate.

Though i have tried drugs. A drug can break down your self and make new ways to create yourself again. And it's not something to use in everyday. Then it is only a extra stress on mind and body.

You can be put out of the "frequency" of our mind that we call norm with help of drugs. Then new thoughts, visions, ways and worlds are appearing, this is reality. The drug is simply a catalyze. And it's not the only way

  • @coryduchesne

The best way is meditation, but a drug can simply help you take away the flat thinking we have learned. And i dont advocate that you abuse it, drugs must be treated with highest respect. Or else the drug eats your mind and body.

Drugs has helped me in some way to find myself, still it has given me a lot of problems to that made me flee from myself. I dont regret it at all due to my identity that I'm proud of, and my curiosity that lead me here.

    Sounds Liberal? =) Hope not.....

  • Right on!

  • I want to repeat Ramsez's question, is this science or prose?

  • @Neanderthalcouzin

Its Neither, its philosophy, and that is NOT popular today. It's actually starting to get extinct, save the philosopher wanting to help and heal human ways of living!

Today we live in a society behaving like animals to each other, even within the family we do.

What can science do about it, the scientific society is corrupt, even DAWKINS don't believe in his own theory, how do i know that, maybe because his a member of a certain satanic cult?????????

  • invent a special pill for the day...the pill that kills your greedy egoistic thinking and reanimate your ability to responsebility....and make it highly addictive ....thats all we need

  • that's cannabis and shrooms for ya. dmt etc.

  • exactly, except they are gracious enough to NOT cause a physical dependency.....quite the opposite....

some people only need it, try it, and want it once!!

    It is rather amazing

  • I suggest if you like this excerpt "theduderinok" has lovingly and painstakingly posted the entire audio book on his/her channel. It's awesome.

  • logos-

    the bird is the word.

  • good video

  • prose..........

  • brilliant insight, R.I.P.

  • he was amazing

  • its odd that the last 100 years have been so excelerative..... high tech seemed to come out of nowhere after centuries of horse'n' cart ...... i wonder who helped excelleate things during the short industrial revolution time span

  • good thing terence mckenna was as brilliant as he was,'cause this galactic federation stuff would have got most people laughed out of court.

  • those voices in the head are the voices of us from the future, coming back as chrononauts on the assignment of shaping a better future. its us in the future, using suggestive telepathic influence and direct physical tutorship to history's masters. unethical? clever and necessary. :) as of now the future is nothing but forecasted probabilities. we can make our world better later, and make it come closer sooner. fate you cant change, destiny you can.

  • the mama matrix most mysterious

  • thumbs up till 26, but leave it there. i love t.mckenna he's one hell of a cool guy. too bad he died before i knew who he was :(

  • TERENCE HAS AN AWESOME HAIRCUT!

  • I don't know what the 2012 consciousness shift will play out like, but I meditate everyday

  • amazing amzing video everyone has the knowlegde of the universe inside them yet its removing the egoic mind and seperating the self out of the society and then you can truley change the world

  • actually, originalwizbang, you are quite mistaken. There is no underevaluation whatsoever of the ancient mentality. Jaynes painfully points out the things you can do without consciousness: "learning, making concepts, thinking, reasoning, etc." The point he made is that it is very possible for a civilization to function in an advanced sense without the inner analogs of consciousness

  • The non local mind is the tool of communication for the "logos" or informational entity. It is being summoned here through our actions, for instance A.I.. A disembodied mind operating in a different relative temporal reality could achieve embryo genisis in a matter of hours. The "singularity" would suffice to explain the end of history as time would cease to be linear to this new mind.

  • ok guys, you have to LISTEN TO THE WHOLE THING! he is applying HIS THEORY to SOMEONE ELSE'S. He is claiming that his theory can apply to a respected scientists' theory, possibly adding to it some validity. Shit.

  • Earth Logos = Yahweh

  • we have devolved in my opinion.. look at pyramids ect.. we had a hand in building them.. see legend of atlantis on here for a good explanation.. forget the arm waving stuff and concentrate on the info:)

  • R.I.P. Terence... Knowledge is GOLDEN...

  • i have never come across any other figure besides terrance McKenna that is as well educated and well articulated and can make a huge encompassing picture or idea so understandable without making massive generalizations that make it to where the whole thought he is conveying would have to be scraped if the generalization proves broken or flawed in some way. i think this has to do with his humbleness.

  • this discussion of the logos is highly important to understanding the power which terrance talks so frequently about. he often even references the questions that he asks mushrooms or DMT. this voice is very powerful in DMT and is very eager to show (i emphasis the word show, if you've ever done it then you know the entities makes an effort to literally display things to you) things beyond (presumably beyond, there certainly aren't existing concepts for them) our normal syntactical motor...

  • God... unbelievable. I find it so astonishing that my trips seem to mirror that of so many other people's. I always feel as though there is an entity(ies) watching me when I'm tripping. I tripped a few months ago and the trip began with voices whipsering in my ears, a more vivid audial hallucination than I've ever encountered. It really makes me wonder.. is it just my self, or is there something more to this feeling? I feel I can know only by delving deeper. DMT, here I come.

  • Maybe they aren't so subtle...

    /watch?v=1zhzvbBOu_I

  • if instead of Reality Tv we had Terence McKenna our race might just have hope of being saved. sadly this is not reality

  • Though his vessel is buried, his spirit lives on. Rest in Peace Terence, I hope to see you on the other side.

  • McKenna & Jaynes never consider the possibility that the bicameral mind may have been a mind intentionally broken thru trauma, drugs &/or religion to induce multiple personality or D.I.D. for the purpose of creating armies of soldiers, assassins, & sex slaves just as the CIA & other government black ops tried to do thru programs like MKUltra which may have had its origins in ancient history. After all, the Iliad is not about a bunch of dope smoking hippies.

  • McKenna & Jaynes leave out the possibility of mind control. It never dawns on them that the bicameral mind, with its hive mentality, may have been a mind that was intentionally broken thru trauma, drugs, & religion, to create multiple personality or dissociative identity disorder. MKUltra & other black ops, with their agendas to create armies of soldiers, sex slaves & assassins, may have had their origins in ancient history. After all, the Illiad is not about a bunch of dope smoking hippies.

  • thank you for posting! people are waking! To there divine mission!!!!

    LOve and light-Heather

  • my thought patterns first BENT, then MELTED into one another like stirred paint and I could actually now HEAR this voice, a voice one normally only silently feels as a logical push, not only HEAR but FEEL it and SEE it, broadcasting into my left brain from on high like a six billion jiggawatt radio tower, pinning me to the ground, now shaking with death fear, it made me feel completely INSANE! The voice spoke absolute truths about existence and love and light and gravity and death and sin

  • The breakdown of the bicameral mind unfortunately relies upon a massive underevaluation of the capacities of so called 'primitive' man, the idea that consciousness did not develop until the time of Homer is actually fairly ignorant in light of what is known of early man through his artifacts, both utile and aesthetic. He had the intellectual potential we have, as shown through cranial capacity, the difference lies of course in our modern development of new means of information storage (cont)

  • Yup. It's a great theory, but in order to be useful, the pivotal moment must be pushed back thousands (or tens of thousands) of years. But then again, that's true of a lot of our "history".

  • Yup. It's a great theory, but in order to be useful, the pivotal moment must be pushed back thousands (or tens of thousands) of years. But then again, that's true of a lot of our "history".

  • totally, the idea of evolution is condusive to the thinking that intellegent conciousness is a recent phenomenon

  • origionalwizbang, mckenna says nothing of the like here, what he says is that before the time of the iliad, human consciousness was more communal, less egocentric. whether you agree with that or not i don't know, but he is certainly not pointing to that time as the begining of consciousness. as he has stated ad infinitum, our brains are structurally the same as humans who lived 250,000 years ago.

  • Very well said. Now I remember why I just friended you.

  • If you think an above average man from the 1970s is ignorant because he thought an average man 6000 years ago was ignorant, what does that make you?

  • you seem extremely wise, please message me :)

  • What do we know about early man through ancient artifacts that refutes Jaynes? Surely non-conscious animals have feelingsd and personality. Why could not have early culture and art developed over time into great beauty and complexity? -As evolution has created birds with beautiful songs. Jaynes wasn't saying preconscious man was stupid, just not fully conscious of the "I". She could not "see" herself being seen. Not easy to grasp...

  • To defend his point, imagine the mind of the bee. A hive is a very complex artifact, yet it is highly unlikely that bees have much more than a instinct based machine consciousness. Humans too were able to create complex artifacts even in the early stages of the breakdown of the bicameral mind.

  • dude your corny as hell. stop being so arogant

  • I'd agree, except it seems that instead of evolving upon the foundations of man's luminous aspirations, humanity has slipped into a One-step-forward-two-steps-back de-volutional process. In other words; whereas so-called Primitive man was technologically challenged, yet more spiritually evolved; Modern man is more technologically advanced, though spiritually challenged. In this sense we have Devolved.
