The last of old Vegas :( Unfortunately what the city fails to realise is that old Vegas history is a tourist draw. Movies like "Casino" make people want to come and get a feel for what the town used to be.
I'm fortunate that I got to visit while the Stardust was still standing, I even caught a Wayne Newton show for laughs :) Such a shame that it's all gone now. It just doesn't feel the same.
An excellent tribute but it made me feel very sad, like most of the postings on this I too felt it should never have been demolished! Every city needs some history and 48 years is not old for a hotel :-(
I will always remember the few nights i had in this hotel, memories that will stay with me forever!
WELL YOUR ALL RIGHT, THE STARDUST DIDN'T DESERV TO GO. BUT WE USHERD INTO A NEW MILLENIUM AND IT'S TIME TO UP DATE, THE STARDUST WAS 40 YEARS OLD AND BEING THAT WE ARE IN A NEW MILLENIUM OUR HOTELS SHOULD LOOK (UP TO DATE) YOU CAN GO SEE STARDUST SIGHN UP CLOSE AND IN PERSON AT A NEON BONE YARD, GO TO GOOGLE AND TYPE IN VEGAS NEON BONEYARD EVERYTHING IS THERE FROM THE 30s TO THE STARDUST
@Bartels92 Echelon will never be completed. Don't kid yourself, layoffs keep coming in vegas. They have excess capacity that business could triple and existing casinos and hotels could accommodate more.
Thanks for posting this. For me and my late wife, this was our favorite place in Las Vegas; a place where we could act like a couple of silly love-struck kids and forget about the rest of world for a while. The implosion of this place was a tough sight to behold. I will always miss it. Well done video and music, BTW.
at least i got to stay the for new years 2004-2005 for the 1st and only time. the pit boss gave us a sleeve of unused dice without drillmarks because of its closing!!! when i found out they were closing i got as much memoribilia as i could matches & pens. made me sad to see this video i almost cried!!! goodbye stardust we will all miss you!!!
It is so sad to see these grand dames of Vegas being demolised and replaced by so many resorts with no class or character such as ones like the awful Excaliber and New York New York resorts. I go to Vegas every year with my husband for business and we stay at the Mandalay Bay, but while Iam there Iam always drawn to the Sahara, Riveria, tropicana etc among the few Golden oldies that still remain. I love the Fremont st experience too. Your video is sad, but a great tribute to the Stardust.
This is an awesome video! Made me very sad. Why didn't they just rebuild the Stardust. Could have capitalized on the history of Old Vegas. Now they have a big empty crater with construction cranes. Boyd should be ashamed of themselves.
great job on this video. Im with you all on missing old vegas, in 8 years that i have been around it i have seen the out with the old and in with the new.. Now to the we dont have the money ...
Another classic gasino gone. To make waqy for another new casino. I know that that's the nature of Vegas, but I miss old Vegas and I think eventually so will the developers as with each old casino that goes they lose something
the classics always get knocked down in vegas to make room for "the future. I waitied years to turn 21 to experience the classic vegas but by the time I was 21 the classics I could hardly wait to visit were vanishing in favor of today's crap!...makes me sad.
AWESOME job! Song choice perfect! Another example of turning things into MICKEY MOUSE CORPERATION LAND. EMPLODE it and build some condos or something. Frick. Makes me want to throw up! Going there in a couple of weeks and never will again.
I miss the Stardust very much. As a musician who played there hundreds of times, it was a part of my life. I fell in love there and have so many great memories. Good by old friend!
actually no it would have cost alot more money to remodel, echelon that will open on the site in 2010 will be a five star resort comprising mostly of suites, the stardust tower though new had really small rooms in comparison to the mega casinos, roughly 300 sq feet, it would be very difficult to incorporate these into the new resort
this was such bu*****t. this place was vegas, nothing wrong with it. great pool area not just cement , actual grass - scenery. great resturants, casino shops & rooms . many memories, grandparents stayed there, parent stayed 4 honeymoon
It was my 1st vegas stay. went the month before they closed . friend worked at there cafe -tradition to go eat there and see her. boyd is a sell out. was a home away from home. vegas is a place that u cant afford to go 2. biggest mistake vegas made never be the same
Seriously, there's a lot of dirt lotsjust past Freemont on the Noth side or even past Mandalay Bay on the South, or just wipe out a ton of those sleazy, cheapo motels on the North that are pretty much an eyesore anyway.
i have been to vegas and now i will never go since all the classics have fallen i dont want to a fucking amauzment pack if i did i would go to disneyland
The disneyland style hotel/casino is a thing of the past in las vegas now though (that was a 1990s thing trying to sell to families).
All of the current hotels going up (City Center, Palazzo, Encore, Echelon, Fountainbleau, Cosmopolitian etc) will cater to the Asian high-roller and the rich 20 something such as Paris Hilton, Britney and Lindsay Lohan
Great video btw xjoelywoelyx; thanks very much for adding
I was there on a business trip the day they imploded the Stardust, It was the first time i went to Vegas but everyone told me great things about the Stardust... Now they destroy 3 or more a year thats what they told us to build new ones...
Very nicely done. Best I've seen on the Stardust. How to get a copy ? I always liked the place and will miss it. We liked the looks of the place and were always comfortable playing there. Whole 'nother place now. Everything ( including Echelon) is no longer for " regular people ".
This is a great tribute to the Stardust! We'll miss this classic place. We stayed there only once, but went in often. The Boardwalk, Stardust, Marina, and so many others... ALL GONE! Sad!
Great job on your tribute to the Stardust - it was very moving. It is sad the grand old casinos of Vegas are being destroyed. Default99telecom is right...the Strip will never be the same without the lady Stardust! :-(
Very well made and edited perfection. Robert Dinero said it best at the end of the movie Casino, when the old school towers come crashing down. The strip will never be the same with out the lady Stardust.
though i live in australia my parents were talking of going to vegas last year then we didnt my dream was to c the stardust cause she was a legend in the making cya stardust
The best memory I have was when I had walked into the casino (I was at the time 6 or 7 years old) with my mother. We had walked right by the Sportsbook. I had bumped into a man quite by accident. When I looked to his face to say sorry, my mouth dropped. It was Robert Conrad. Trembling, I gave him my address and asked him if he could send me a birthday card. Sure enough, I did get one from him.
first time i went to vegas i stayed at the stardust, while there i realised ide fallen in love with a girl back home, she was 6000 miles away from me, my stay turned into the most magical memory i have. watching this tribute put me back there instantly how i felt in 2003.... i cried. both are now gone forever but the feelings last a lifetime.wish i could turn back time x... paul from england
Excellant job!! Perfect music, great before & after too. (I didn't realize it was gutted so much before the fall.) Too bad they didn't light it better for the explosion. (Not your fault.) Again - great job!!
Joel, a phenomenal job!!! From one videographer/editor to another (I've been shooting & editing weddings for over 20 years), this is an outstanding job!!!! My wife and I always stayed at the Stardust, beginning in 1981, and have watched it grow and change. We lived in Vegas in the 90s for 4 wonderful years and ate at Toucan Harry's all the time (BEST chicken wings EVER!) Thanks for the memories, and for a VERY touching video! I will be posting some Stardust camera footage soon.
Outstanding job! A fine tribute that still brings a tear to my eye. I'm sitting at my Stardust sports book bench, with my 'Dust ashtrays, sitting on top of some 'Dust carpet, playing this back and thinking of what was the best book in Las Vegas. 25 years, I loved that book and have a distinct honor of 'owning' a 5-team Ultimate Challange card hit. Your Tribute did the place proud! Thank you!!!
Hi Joel, I have been following your web site from the start and I check back on it daily. I am a production manager for the number one TV News station in the city of Boston, MA. and you do as good a job or better then I have seen in some time. Ever think of moving to Boston and working in Productions? It's not a bad gig.

What a beautiful tribute!!! Stardust goes very DEEP and INTIMATE into my history!!! From my grandparents, to the Greatful Dead concert parking lot camping experience, to slot tournaments, to the shows. I feel like I've lost a family member. Thanks for this!
You've done it again, Joel. Amazing. Awesome. Spectacular. Heartfelt. Tear-jerking. You're just superb. I can't say enough about how you put this whole Stardust thing together from closing day till demolition day. From someone who worked there for most of my life, I am proud to see what you've done. Seriously...two thumbs up -- if I had more thumbs, they'd ALL be up!!!
Oh my God, this video really brings it all together from memory to reality. A beautiful and sad tribute.
You REALLY need to think about making a career in documentary photo essays or films. I look forward to seeing your next project, and thanks for making this level of work available.

There was nothing wrong with the Stardust at all!! It was the biggest waste of money in the cities history.
Now what do we have, a nine story cinderblock called Echelon that was suppose to be opening this year, but wont be completed until 2013.
LMFAO at how Boyd Gaming thinks they can compete with MGM Mirage. Boyd gaming can burn in hell.

The Tower was just built in 1991 why did they destroy a relatively new building? It seems they would have saved a lot of money by just remodeling it.
