  • oooh ouch!!! that was a massive buck

  • Wouw a big buck!!!!

  • "shes screwed when I get back"

    XD

    LOL

  • 2:37 woah!

  • Thanks! Borrowed it from a friend.

  • Your a great rider...just looks like you got caught off guard.

On the bright side you chose a great song...Sick Puppies fits perfectly.

  • Haha, this song just seems made for a "you got served by your horse" type video...

  • Haha it does. I love your sense of humor. People on here tend to take themselves way to seriously. :)

  • ouch ! that did not look fun !!

i had a similar experience in sept but i broke my arm & hand not my leg

  • Argh, think I'd take the ankle over a broken arm and hand! Yikes!

  • WOW!!! you are still an amazing rider! great posture seating ECT... She freaked the heck out 0_o but you did really awesome. Hope you thought her a lesson haha XD

  • Haha, she is still one firey little mare, but I'm better equipped to handle it and have a better understanding of what I need to do to be more effective. Thanks!

  • wow that horse wasnt happy

  • Mare in heat + not being lunged + open end of the ring = fiery doom

  • oh wow!! your a good rider and great ending hahah

  • You have to laugh it off, you know? :)

  • It looked very painful, i have only been riding around 2 years so i havent had a fall like that yet! You are brave well donee :) x

  • Oooohhh I felt that one xD

  • Me too...lol

  • For what its worth you have a beautiful seat. We need more riders like you, crap happens but in the end you still had a good sense of humor about it!... When do you get to start riding again? I broke my foot like that when I was 20 and the best way to get your muscle/strength back is swimming! Really sped up the recovery after I got rid of my cast.

  • Thanks! I've been all healed up for a while, actually, and am back to riding/jumping/jogging/weight lifting. :) I've just been insanely busy with my job and lagging with the video updates. I HAVE been having minor aches on cold/damp days--and that's probably not going to go away anytime soon, as it's a NJ winter--but exercise and riding actually makes it feel good. I am religious with joint and calcium supplements too (fortunately, I was before I got hurt, too).

  • The orthopedic surgeon was kind of surprised that I lost forward flexibility (pointing my toes) as opposed to the ability to point my heels down (like most people who break their ankles). However, because I was back to riding (in a bareback pad) only about two weeks later (with the doc's permission), it's not surprising. It's where my ankles usually are! :) I had to really work and stretch to reestablish the ability to point my toes (not on the horse, of course!).

  • Hey, at least that's all you got. That was a pretty serious fall. But you stuck it out. You did the right thing. And your a tough girl that's going to get back on as soon as that bone of yours is healed! I hope you get better. xx

  • I'm all better, thanks! :) I'm just waaay behind on videos. I'm used to getting right back on if things get hairy, so it was very frustrating to have to accept that I was injured badly enough that I had to deal with that.

  • That was quite a buck, heels down would have helped immensely.

I can totally understand her taking you but suprise, she looked like she was mellow..

I hope all is better for you.. Take care

  • I beg your pardon, but the only time my heels came up was after I was already ejected from the saddle. ;) I'm doing much better, thanks. She is usually well behaved.

  • Geez Mel! Who do you think you are NOT defying the laws of physics!?! I mean, seriously, when your ass is three feet above the saddle your heels should STILL BE DOWN!!! Hahaha! I love how the comment came from someone who made their "bucked off" video private. ;) It's funny that those who are too afraid to show their weak moments are more than happy to criticize those who aren't afraid to show their less-than-perfect moments. Chin up kid--and remember: keep those heels down! ;)

  • You see, when I became a vampire, I got the added benefit of sparkly skin in the sunshine, but I didn't get that really cool power that involves the ability to defy gravity and zip around gracefully through the air--thus the broken ankle. But, you know, being a vampire and all, it mended itself rather quickly.

  • ::Sparkle Sparkle!!!::

  • Hahahaha XD

  • Rofl, That's hilarious dragonfly! You had me and my friend laughing. XDD

  • i ment no offense by anything, you were just taken off guard.. And she had one hell of a buck..

  • No problem; we didn't take it very seriously. :) I've sat out some pretty wicked stuff, but this one took the taco. It looks like I didn't even try to stay on, but the FORCE she threw behind it just put me right in my place (which, in this case, was on the ground).

  • Did your leg like twist under you?

what ever it was... ti looks like that HURT. :O

  • Yep...and it did!

  • LOL! Crazy mares... a few have done that to me in the past. (I was lucky enough not to break anything tho, hope you are getting better).

  • Exactly--she's young, she hadn't been lunged, and she was in heat. I got what was coming to me. :-/ I'm doing much better at this point--I have been back to riding and jumping. I still have cramping in it, esp. with the cold and damp weather, but it's not unbearable.

  • wow that looked very...interesting.

by your description it's easily seen that equestrians are very good at thinking what to do fast in a tight situation.

i've had two broken bones due to falls...and they were both from the same fall. But i guess the think is never to give up. and obviously your back to doing really well

  • Haha! Yeah, interesting is a good word for it. :) Sorry to hear you've had a wicked fall yourself! Fortunately, this break wasn't bad and I was able to get back to riding relatively quickly. Persistence is definitely an important component.

  • and your also lucky your doctor agreed with you coming back to riding :)

we had to sneak in some rides without mine finding out after i had 5 weeks in a cast :D

  • shes a beautiful horse! i know a horse that foundered but hes all better now! i dont think he can jump though

  • There's plenty of skeptics, but there are horses who can make a good recovery and return to work. Clue has demonstrated time and time again that she has the energy, the health, and the heart to have a second lease on life. Thank you for your comment.

  • Boy, she sure piled you hard!!!! I'm so glad to see it wasn't wose than it was. Yikes. But seriously, the horse is lame in this video. Maybe she's trying to tell you - not so much riding on damaged feet? She bucked at the beginning. Her body is so stiff and painful. Visibily lame on both fronts and head bobbing. She finally told you to take a flying leap. Youuuuuch. It's not fun, I've been there :-( But maybe you're doing too much with this poor mare?

  • I have decided to approve your comment. Since you felt comfortable leaving rather inappropriate and judgmental remarks elsewhere on my account, and as I'm sure you're not the only person out there who feels comfortable making generalizations about my mare, I'm going to address this once and for all. She was reacting to the open entrances to the ring--something she had an issue with long before her paddock accident--because she saw an opportunity and it went unchecked.

  • While it IS a sign of rider error--my not being proactive and/or not paying enough attention--she is by no means lame. She is a smart, healthy young mare who had not been lunged and had some extra energy to spare, and she was not afraid to let me know. Her tack is well-fitted, she's got wonderful stamina, and she's not taken a lame step in a very long time (thank God), thanks in large part to corrective shoeing and patient, gradual reintroduction to work.

  • I'm sure you're not the only person who looks at the Clue series with a critical eye, but you're one of the few who has gone so far to insinuate that what I'm doing is abusive or causing harm. One need only look at the progression to see how far she's come and how she continues to improve. I take it as a very personal affront given that I've devoted a lot of time, money, and most importantly LOVE to saving my wonderful mare.

  • I would never dream of going onto someone's account and making such accusations--especially if I've never laid eyes on the horse in question in person or actually worked with that animal. I guess that is one of many ways that you and I differ.

  • Is she still wearing her Epona shoes here? How much did they cost, and how long did you have to use them? Did she go barefoot after? Or back into normal shoes?

  • She is barefoot in the back and wears the Eponas in the front; she'll probably always be in the Eponas, as they're what she's comfortable in. They cost about $250 each time they get done.

  • "Clue: One. Mel: Zero."

"Shes screwed when I get back."

Clue is looking really nice now! Just keep your foot elavated so you can get back to riding! xD I wouldn't take you as a hard rock listner, or do you like love Sick Puppies?

  • Haha, I listen to just about anything. When I heard this song on the radio, it just seemed TOO appropriate for this video, haha! :) My ankle's almost 100% better--I've been back to riding and jumping for a while now--but I'm way behind on videos just for lack of time to make them right now. Thanks for commenting!

  • Well good to know Clue still has ample sass to her! Hah, too bad it's demonstrated this way. Glad riding doesn't bother your ankle. :D

  • Thanks, haha! She's one smart cookie, and I was actually thrilled to see how easy it was for her to leap through the air and toss me. She's definitely feeling good! :)

  • You got some good air time with that buck, but ouch on the landing. Glad your injuries weren't worse.

  • Me too! My mom was worried about my head because I smacked it pretty hard on the impact, but that didn't hurt at all (thick skull, haha). The ONLY thing that hurt was the ankle, but it wasn't a bad break. I consider myself very lucky.

  • did you land on your ankle? Its a bit hard to see in the video.

  • Yep, I landed on my right ankle. The opening still shot is really the best opportunity to see the rotation and how I'm going to land.

  • Oh dear, I missed so much! Thanks to my full time job, I haven't been able to check out anyone's cyber world! Not a very fortunate event here, but you're lucky that your ankle wasn't shattered--I knew many that have experienced that. (I was never one of those people, knock on wood.) I really hope you're doing better--it's great that you're still riding, even taking it easy. Good luck! :) P.S. When my mare was in heat, I recieved a whopping handful, too! :-P

  • I know, I barely can get on here to do updates or check comments. I'm doing much better and back to jumping and riding regularly (er, when work permits). Mares in heat can be SO much fun, lol!

  • I wish I had it filmed so then I would know exactly what she did instead of being forced to guess.Woo!

Glad you are OK and were wearing a helmt!

    woo!

  • Yeah seriously--I would not dream of getting on a horse without a helmet, no matter what discipline I'm doing. I have hopped on for a picture without a helmet, and even with riding experience, I insist someone is standing nearby, and I hop off right after. It's just not worth the risk to me.

  • It was pretty nasty. I had come off of her before but just thought - ok, more bruised ribs and got the wind knocked out of me. Until the next day after a visit to urgent care - then being sent to the hospital for a CT scan which showed the punctured lung and bruised liver. I still can't believe how fricking fast it happened! It's like I have no recall. I was riding her. Felt her explode. Then she was gone, and I was on the ground.

  • Arrgh! Dang! This was over SO fast, too--the clearest memory I have was when I was on her head, because that's the part that seemed sooo drawn out in my mind. I was making the choice to dive off, and the next thing i know, I'm on the ground and my ankle's not feeling right, lol.

  • i love wen u say shes screwed wen im bak lol i wuda said the some thing!!! hehe

  • Haha! All I wanted was to get back on that day, but it wasn't gonna happen. :-P

  • Oh dear, you poor girl. This time last year I broke my ankle and tailbone coming off Chip in a similar manner (though without the bolt, just buck after buck after buck) you had no chance!

  • Wow! I came down relatively soft other than sitting on my ankle. NOTHING else hurt the next day. That was what made it really frustrating--if not for the ankle, I'd of been back up and back on. Wow, did you need the inflatable donut to sit on? I had a roommate in college who fell on stairs and needed to sit on one of those during classes.

  • That's quite the buck she gave you. I guess if your gonna get hurt you might as well do it in style, right? I'm happy you're doing better, and hopefully that will be the last of those mighty bucks.

  • Oh yeah! Clue def. aimed for style points! :) Thank you! I've sat out so many on other horses (and even on her, but not like this one) but she definitely knows how to serve up my butt on a silver platter.

  • ooo ouch!!

    Glad you recovered well :)

    She is gorgeous though!

  • Thank you! She's usually a very good girl!

  • aw bless her.. they all have there naughty moments!

  • All this showed me was her athleticism and her wit--she knew she caught me not paying attention. I'll take a smart horse any day. :)

  • Ooouch! looks painful.

  • It wasn't unbearable; more annoying than anything else.

  • Hah yea I know how that feels, I fell off and sprained my wrist a few years back.. I've been lucky thats the worst I've had so far. I wanted to get back on right away and probably would have since I wasn't in any pain, but I got SUPER light headed and almost passed out. I was back in the saddle a couple days later though a temporary cast on my hand still, trying to get my english trained horse to neck reign lol didn't work too well.

  • Wow! I was riding with my air-cast boot on. The whole thing was that I couldn't put weight in that stirrup, so as long as I was in a bareback pad or riding w/out stirrups, I was okay. No one wanted me back on Clue until my ankle healed, though. That part was frustrating, but understandable. :-P

  • ouuuch

  • Hey, thats intenseee!!! Looks like it hurt!! this is one of the reasons why i like Geldings haha! hope you get better soon!! also i agree Perfect song haha! Get well soon. (love your moms commentary at the end :-))

  • Haha, have you seen my gelding? lol! He's got quite a personality too--Clue is actually the quieter of the two! :) Thank you! :)

  • I AM SOOO GLAD U WERE NOT HURT WORSE!!!! u handled that situation very well...and for the record both of u looked very very nice on the flat!!! oh...why do we love horses?? lol

  • Aw, thanks! Even moments like these, I'm still so thankful to have them in my life. They help me keep things in perspective and be appreciative that I have the opportunity to be around them.

  • I love the ending only a mom can pull that off.

  • True! :) haha

  • Glad you are all healed up. When I came off my ex-horse in April, I had no one filming it, kind of wish I had filmed it to see exactly what happened because it happened so blooming fast, but kind of glad I didn't film it either because it was horrible. Numerous broken bones and internal injuries. I had never broken anything until HER. I thought it was your left ankle from the video, but then read the description.

So thanks for being brave enough to show the fall!

  • Aw, thanks so much! I'm so sorry to hear you had such a bad fall! In my opinion I really got off easy with how this worked out. I hope you're 100% okay now!

  • welll....i guess she's feeling better....

  • Haha! I'd say the Airs Above the Ground are good evidence. :)

  • yeh no kidding XD

  • Oh man, the famous holding on the neck routine. lol. I was out doing cross country once and I got bucked like that and I landed on my horses neck. I thought I was such a goner but he luckly pulled up a bit enough that I could get my butt back into the saddle. That sucks though you fell off and broke something. lol. Glad all is better though :)

  • I can't believe how quick I went from her neck to her head. I just remember looking ahead and being like "Hmm, is she gonna jump the rail with me on her head, or duck her head and run me over? I'm not gonna wait to find out." I think this was probably the best outcome given that I was coming off one way or another.

  • that is a crazy fall congrats for staying on that long!

  • Thanks!

  • ouch... the mare can get some air o.0, hope its not hurtin u too bad x.x

  • Oh yeah. That was one of the things I was most proud of on her behalf--how easily she leaped into the air, lol!

  • Oh boy! I'm glad that you recovered quickly and are fully back in action!

Gotta love horses like Clue that keep you on your toes! I know firsthand how delightful it is to get bucked off Clue. :o) Thankfully she didn't break any of my bones, although almost 4 years later my back still isn't the same!

  • Haha. I still remember the email you sent regretfully informing me you no longer wished to play Russian roulette with my horse, lol. I can't imagine why!

  • I was convinced she hated me...but now I understand that it is just part of her 'tude. :o)

  • my goodness that was a huge LEAP, that was crazy!

    I'm glad you're all better :)

  • Thank you :)

  • Hahah oh wow! KUDOS- for staying on so long. You almost saved yourself. Still glad to see shes feeling better (clearly with the size of her buck!). Hope your leg feels better soon :D

  • I'm pretty much healed up; driving sometimes aggravates the tendon (switching from gas to brake pedal), but riding doesn't, and that's all that REALLY matters, lol! :)

  • oh dear, that looked painful !!

The other day I was lunging my mare as I can't ride by falling off this pony i was schooling and ended up with a torn rotator cuff in my shoulder,so to keep her in work i lung her. She is a bit fresh, and she wanted to go.I forgot to close the gate(lesson learned there)and started lunging. She took one good buck, jerked me to the ground,my hand got stuck in the lung, and i got dragged for a good half the ring until i got it unstuck and she bolted back to the barn!

  • Oh wow! My dad had to have surgery on his rotator cuff--that stuff's no joke! You poor thing!

  • ouch!

  • ah! glad ur ok, ye I no what its like, I broke my left ankle jumping.

  • Thank you. This def. was quite the experience!

  • I know hoe you feel! I was riding a horse at work and jumped down a drop fense and she jumped off left and i lost my stirrups she freaked, jump another jump from gallop, cue my on her bum galloping and bucking across as open field till i let myself fall,

I broke 3 fingers, my thumb into places and compressed the bone and broke my wrist, after 6 weeks in cast i have two more to go! although i got back on and hacked back lol looking forward to you videos i have missed them!

  • Oh my goodness, that's horrific! I wish you a speedy and comfortable recovery! Wow. Thank you for commenting.

  • Yeah! Ik what your sayying!

  • Wow, that was quite a buck/bolt!

I love the way you ride; I dunno you just make it look so easy & effortless. :D

Glad to hear you recovered quickly!!

  • Aw, thank you! I have to work hard at it; I'm glad I at least give the impression of effortlessness, lol! :)

  • Wow that looked painful! The rest of the lesson was really good though! hehe I just love Clue!

  • Haha, thanks! :)

  • perfect song choice too ;)

  • Yay finally the infamous video lol. Looks like it hurt a lot but I'm glad you weren't in unbearable pain! I always hate it when I'm hurt and can't correct the problem...I just hope the horse forgets that it happened lol.

  • It's good and it's bad: Clue has an EXCELLENT memory. It's made rehabbing her less difficult--she remembered SO much from her under saddle work before she was injured. Unfortunately, this also translates into her having a good memory for when she's gotten away with things. She has pondered evil in that ring a few times since, but knowing that there's that potential there keeps me vigilant and proactive in my riding...and it keeps her from acting on those occasional evil thoughts. ;)

  • Haha, I was so mad I couldn't get back on that day and work it out!!

  • Thank you!

  • you fractured your fibula!?

oh my, thats a tough bone too. I bet that HAD to hurt.

I was wondering why you hadn't released any videos. xD

  • It definitely hurt, but it wasn't unbearable--I had the good fortune of having a break where nothing was displaced. I never even took so much as a Tylenol. I was, however, quite frustrated that I was losing the opportunity to correct the issue immediately--not to mention that some shows I was looking forward to were completely out of the question.

  • That sure stinks about the shows. :/ I remember my trainer saying something to me back in july along the lines of "You BETTER NOT break your leg! Its the middle of the show season!" after I took a nasty blow to my leg from a pole at the Bay State Classic.

But hey, the time will come and go like the speed of sound, even though it'll feel like forever. (I recently had swine flu and wasn't able to work Kaysea before a show. We won champ though, which was good. :])

  • Wow, swine flu? Glad you're doing alright! We've been back in working order for a while. All things considered, I think I was really lucky. Congrats on getting champion!

  • "I looked down and realized I was holding either side of her bridle and was riding her head."

hahaha. although the fall looked very painful [and it was!] that sentence got me. xD

ohh. mares. mine tried to buck me off today too :P

  • Haha, isn't that special? :) Ah, the joy of mares; was yours hormonal as well?

  • Quite possibly. She doesn't really have a buck in her though. She just kinda roached her back and hopped. She thought she was tough. :P

  • ouch!

  • Haha, indeed!

  • ohmygosh :O crazy horse! sorry bout the broken foot :(

  • Haha, thanks! I'm all better now :)

  • Wow! That was insane! Good job stay on as long as you did!

lol "Clue one, Melinda zero." hahahaha

    love that :P

I hope you were ok(besides the broken foot)

  • Haha, yeah, we weren't really taking it too seriously after being at the hospital for a couple of hours. I actually showed the footage of the fall to numerous hospital staff for their amusement. :)

  • ooh ouch! X__X i'm sorry you broke your foot, but i must say, clue's looking really good!

  • Thank you! Considering the ease with which she pitched me into the air, I'd say her stamina is back to where it should be. ;)

  • i was sooo there ;D

  • Heh, like your brief cameo in there? :)

  • hahahaha TOTALLY ;)

  • "shes screwed when im back" ilove it!! lol. great riding1!

  • The only thing I was bitter about was that I couldn't get right back on THAT day and THAT moment. I really didn't want her to get the idea that that was acceptable behavior! Thanks :)

  • omg! crazy clue hahah :) she was looking so nice up until that point - she was adorable over the cavaletti! if you had to fall, at least you got this on video! lol i loveeee the commentary at the end hahah :D

  • Haha, thank you! The way I look at it is, for her to be so aerobic, she's definitely got her strength back. :)

  • ouchhh sorry for the break!!

but before you guys were looking great! im so happy that her recovery is going well :)

now we can be twins i broke me ankle from my horse over the summer too

itsnt it lovely to have a big cast on in the middle of the summer?

  • Bummer, sorry you had to go the cast route! I was in an air boot for a couple of weeks, used crutches for maybe a week and a half or so, then downgraded to wrapping it once I could comfortably move around on it. I remained lame at the jog (ha ha) for quite a while after, but was back to riding within a few weeks (without stirrups, b/c bearing weight in that right iron was a bit much at first). The ER doctor ticked me off by saying "There goes your summer." I could have decked him!

  • "she's screwed when I'm back"

Haha, I have that same mentality when I get bucked off.

  • That's the best one to have--assuming you've not been hospitalized (haha), you have to concentrate on figuring out the problem and solving it. :)

  • That sucks that your fractureed your fibia!! O, i've been there. its torture. Get better soon!!

  • Thanks! The bone's all back together, and other than just having a dull ache with the onset of cold weather, it's back to normal. :)

  • awh! she's SUCH a beautiful pony/horse. im really sorry to hear what happened, but you handled it really well and i think your retraining her great! btw you look fabulous on her(:

  • Thank you! I'm proud of her for having the strength to executive such a big leap, haha. Unfortunately it didn't end the best for me.

  • No problem! Hahah yes! Well at least you healed quickly, maybe good and bad came out of all of this? :D

  • Haha!

  • ouch!

hope to see you back in form very soon :)

  • I've been back to riding for a while, but I'm waaaay behind on videos. Thank you! :)

  • You are amazing! Where do you ride? amd sorry about the fall! Not fun! hah

  • You are too kind. Are you in NJ? Just b/c I feel a little weird proclaiming it all over the Internet...

  • oohh....that sucks!! (i mean that you broke your foot) that was some powerful bucking! :P

  • Aw, thanks, but I'm all good now. :) For doing just one good buck, it was definitely productive on her part!

  • ouch!!!!! im sorry you fell off!

    if you pause it at...

    2:37

    its so :O

you stayed on for the longest time though

  • I did the best I could, but yikes, did I fall short! :-P My mom was freaked out about how much my head/neck get bounced around before I came off, but that part didn't hurt at all.

  • My goodness, Mel! That was a really nasty fall. You did everything you could, though. I almost think I can see the point of impact on your ankle in the video. Whew. It looks like Clue steps right next to you after you hit, that was a close one. I'm glad to hear you're up and running!

I've had a fall almost exactly like this - cantering and my horse stumbled in the corner. Foot got caught in the stirrup and broke. I had a 3rd degree concussion. But I was more thankful I hadn't been trampled!

  • Thanks! Wow, your fall sounds really scary! The one thing I am petrified about is getting trampled. Youtube user maymayrox actually got a photo right before I hit the dirt from a slightly different angle--it was then that I appreciated how lucky I was and how CLOSE I came to getting stepped on. Clue was a good girl for dodging around the ball of human near her hooves. :)

  • haha that was a intense fall.... i broke my tibia, but it was a pathetic fall haha yours was amazing. haha

  • Any fall has the potential for injury--it really comes down to how you land in many cases. If I didn't land sitting on my ankle, I would have probably just had the wind knocked out of me.

  • oh i believe it!!!

  • shes screwed when im back!!!lol i love that part..sorry about ure ankle:[ get bette soon!

  • Haha! I wanted SO bad to be back on her that day and working through it, but obviously that would have been quite foolish! Thank you, I'm all healed up! :)

  • Ouch! That was one mean buck!

All of that aside she looks lovely :) glad she's coming on so well :) xxx

  • Thank you! :)

  • omg!!! i love clue shes sooo pretty, but she's got some buck!!

  • Haha, I have to agree with both parts of that statement! When she was still three and four years old, she'd occasionally do a string of crowhops, but this was extra special!

  • your a very good rider and your horses are trained beautifully and i think that even a top notch level 6 jumper would not have been able to stay on with the way she bucked

  • I really appreciate that comment. :) I've definitely seen some exceptional Youtubers sit out some extreme behavior, however, and I think there's some riders out there who may have given her a better run for her money in that scenario. You never know until you're on that particular horse in that particular situation.
