@IggyHazard And while I agree with you that there is a michievous clumsy character in ALL of Lucas's stories, Jar Jar failed miserably simply because he had no redeeming qualities. Madmartigan was a great swordsman, the brownies were good guids (despite their size disadvantage). The ewoks may have been clumsy, but they were clever and fought hard. And Pippin Took fought, hard, and was a prankster with considerable cleverness and guile, though he was comic relief. Jar jar simply falls flat.

@IggyHazard I don't want to be negative. But jar jar's only true positive quality is that his character is an opportunity for the audience to cultivate patience and compassion. He has no cunning, no humor (beyond slap-stick), no intelligence, no luck to speak of, no bravery, and hardly any actual character. He is a leaf floating downstream while the rest of the characters are on jet skis and doing back-flips on ramps. Jar Jar really does make the ewoks look like Shaft :P

I don't know if I'm supposed to take this seriously or not (considering the actor's actual stance on the films), but it is funny.

Though I honestly DESPISE the excuse that someone had to "Be There" when the Original Trilogy came out to be able to truly love it. And I've heard so many people say it. That's like saying nobody can ever appreciate it or other older works like LOTR, or heck even something like Beowulf ever gain. I know I love the OT and I was born almost a decade after them.

I used to collect Tales from the Crypt, The Vault of Horror, and The Haunt of Fear. All George Lucas movies have a Jar Jar. He's a classic archetype. How's come no one ever complains about Pippin Took when he fits the same archetype? The "clown" character is always an empath. That makes their "faults" (which usually are not actually character flaws) forgivable. Also, Jar Jar and Pippin were both patriots of their people (you don't necessarily have to be a fighter to be a patriot).

But seriously, though, watch 'Willow' and you'll see what I mean. Willow, Madmartigan, AND Rool all have plenty of Jar Jar moments. Even 'THX-1138' had sort of a Jar Jar (and he too was played by a black guy which to some might appear to lend credence to mainstream libtards' claims that George Lucas is a racist).
