  • @costyron You are!

  • @costyron Why do you feel smarter? Music is Music it doesn't matter how old you are, I'm 18 myself but I don't feel smarter then my brother because he listens to main stream.

  • @rickylascaze001 youre right, thats actually a really dumb statement by me. It's just that I don't understand why people would listen to mainstream lyrics. I'm not smarter, I know intelligent people that listen to mainstream, it's just that I can't understand

  • what is the sample used for this track

  • I second the comment below

  • @bmill0711 I third dat comment..Hell,fourth and fifth me too.!!!!!..

  • I'll take this over ANY lil wayne, wiz khalifa, and nicki minaj album!

  • @socomXpert1 Why don't you spend your time spreading tha wealth son, who cares about them? I'd rather read a comment that recommended people, like peanut butter wolf, dr octagon, raekwon, gza, showbiz and ag, a.z and shit like that. I'm fed up of reading the same bullshit bro, peace

  • @wanniator I do. It's pointless mentioning any REAL hip hop artists, on a REAL hip hop vid because if you're here then you already know whats up.

  • Make my beats faggot

  • That was real hip hop it gives u a certain feeling that u cant explain but its genuine bcuz its a feeling that u cant get nomore from todays hip hop!!!!!!

    I most certainly agree 1000%.

  • when hip hop made sense, not cents

  • HIP HOP BABY MECCA

  • Top 5 daed or alive hes goes on that list!!!

  • classic hip hop

  • This period of time was the best for producing great rhymes.

  • man funkmaster flex was tearing this record up!! he still brings it out once in awhile too, gotta be tuned in on a holiday or something

  • @PurpleBagMuzik Im 19 and I came up on this all my own..when my father passed I took all his vinyl's, Cd's and tapes...that's how old school music came into my life. I never listened or understood much music when I was little. But as I grew this music & culture became my life...and I have gained such a great understanding of Mc history that I dare any hip hop head to try my knowledge.

  • niiice. this is what hip hop should still sound like cuz this new stuff is whack. bring it back to this.

  • this song changed my life

  • CL Smooth hat is so ill!

  • i meant the title song is girls, they love me

  • it was heavy D. and the boys-- overweight lover, heavy d

  • One of their best tracks.

  • Rdoubt96 the dude in the background was a sample of a verse from Heavy D from a previous song... If I recall correctly it may have been from Heavy D's debut song "Overweight Lover's in the house"!! The beats and lyrics from this song Mecca and the SB have stood the test of time! Can't believe it's been about 20 yrs since it dropped! Incredible song!!

  • Did anyone notice the guy in the background saying "Pete Rock and Cl Smooth was on stage drinking Cisco?

  • @RDoubt96 From Heavy D and the Boyz "Girlz they love me"

  • what year was this originally released?

  • @truesh1t June 25th 1991.

  • Pete Rock and CL Smooth was on stage drinking cisco!

  • @clippers3473 That's an old school drink!

  • @clippers3473

And so beautifully cut to fucking pieces by Pete Rock. This song features some of the best scratching you'll ever hear.

  • "The night cap so prepare for a cat scan when I turn your brain into moo goo gai pan". Moo goo gai pan is a chinese dish (duck and veggies) that looks like your brain is chopped up. What he is saying is your brain will explode trying to think on his level. one of the deepest lines ever

  • THIS IS A CLASSIC !!

    MUTHAFUCK SOULJA BOY

  • classic hiphop at hes finest, gotta admire this

  • I found this ep on cd in a create at the st marks sound store in nyc, for a dollar just before it blew up. somebody from the label sold many copy's of this ep to st mark sound before anyone had heard of PeteRock...

  • You don't have creativity like this anymore. I love the way the beat switches up continuosly while he's rapping, not just at a break.

  • I still have this EP.

  • Aye.... is it just me or do PETE ROCK and CL SMOOTH look almost exactly like TALIB KWELI and HI-TEK??? LOL

  • big ups from australia, bangin

  • SEEING THEM TONIGHT!!!!!!! AAAHHHH <3 <3 <3

  • @leeny1708 na dann bis gleich!

  • Name of the sample?

  • back in the YO' MTV RAPS and RAPCITY dayz.....

  • HAAAAAAARD Production. soo HARRRRRRRRRRRRRDDD.RAAAWWWWWW

  • Pete Rock SMASHED this beat!!!!!!!!! And CL's lyrics were DAMN sure Smooth!!!!!

  • WAY better than the version that made it

to the video (even though that one was still

funky). Maybe they felt it was too jazzy for the

slightly rough vibe OF the video.

    > Professor DLC

  • Love it! :-)

  • THAT ROOOOOOOCKS

  • Pure genius! Listen to the combined samples,Unbelivable.Beautiful.Now,try explaining this to a 18 yr.old.Good luck.............

  • @CLOVEONE1

Impossible to explain to a 18 yr old!!!...unless their daddy was on this!!! This EP was so classic!

  • This is the real Hip Hop.

  • i love this version & the wig out mix of "mecca & the soul brother". by the way, this was the name of their debut album "mecca & the soul brother".

  • OLDSCHOOLLL THE BEST AS NEWSCHOLL!!

  • The classics sounds more better 2day than what they did yesterday

  • You couldn't bag me boy wit a hefty

Train like Rocky but still can't step to me

  • Pete Rock is one of the most under appreciated in the rap game. The nineties had soooo many good groups that some were overlooked. This album is as good as it gets.

  • "We came to save your little lost souls anyway."

  • classic!!!

  • Man I still have the EP! Pure dopeness!

  • Dammm this track brings back so many memories lol runnin the streets all night with friends..

  • "When doves cry, Apollonia and Vanity" kills me every time.

  • This is so good its chilling.

  • "Finger licking the papes like there is no other. Mecca and the soul brother" I love that line.... CL is underrated. One of the best flows in the game EVER

  • @illpalo: I always say that too. He and PR made history homie. He did mostly all the rapping, so he had to be pretty good to hold his own on those legendary tracks!!

  • Got more beef than Sadam Hoessein.

    This was fuckin 91' :P

  • is this the original album version ?

  • @basquewolf Yes it is.The also remixed it and that's hot too.Check it out.

  • @basquewolf This is the original version. This was an EP before the album. This was out, at least, a year before the album, if not more.

  • This is Pete Rock in his prime . This beat defines his innovative talent .

  • I personally think that this version is better than the remix but w.e. peace

  • ..mecca and the soul brother..ceremonial experts..love from croatia

  • one of my favorite pete rock beats next to the jessumen remix for das efx....pete rock & cl smooth on stage drinkin' cisco!

  • @obatron1 Oh shit this and Jussamen are my favorite beats as well! No dickriding lol.

  • dang!!!18 years, 3 months and 10 days later, i'm finally peeping that remix vid!! THANX!!!!!!

  • does anybody remember a video for this? and i even think there were two videos. one was a remix. i've been digging for days in google but if the videos exist, any information about them is buried under all that press that the later album by the same name got. i remember seeing the videos on mtv in early '92. and on a side note: whatever happened to the planned hip-hop cultural center in mvernon?

  • I found it. I sent you a message. The remix is way better than the original

  • anyone from MT Vernon up in here????

  • wraios re steve!exeis anevasei kai to omwnumo album??

  • apo to kalokairi to'xw valei to omwnumo album. sxedon ena mhna meta ap'auto. to kurio uliko oxi!!(an katalaves alla eimai sigouros oti katalaves)

  • Finger lickin the papes like there is no ther.... Mecca and the soul brother!

TOP 5 HipHop beats of all time.... Pete Rock was a beast!

  • @ti3walker yea i saw a interview with pr and primo and premier said this was one of his fave pete rock beats its a rossenburg interview wit 9th wonder there if u wana check it

  • Damn! Pete Rock is and has always been amazing. I played this song about 20 times a day when I first got the cassette back in the day. My friends used to laugh every time I reached for the tape deck because they knew what I was going to play.

  • This was the soundtrack for the best time of my life. Freshman year in college walking the yard with Pete and CL in my walkman. LOL These cats are the best in my book.

  • Legendary. Only 5,000 views in almost seven months shows you today's kids are completely unaware of the classics.

  • @kenyancheena There are always exceptions bien sur ;)

  • @kenyancheena I'm aware

  • @kenyancheena not me!

  • @kenyancheena THEY JUST DONT KNOW I HATE ALL THESE NEW BUMS (HATE)

  • @kenyancheena because they are only exposed to the shitty radio and all the shitty new stuff called "music"

  • I always loved the pause at 5:26..... and then "Word".....

  • I had this EP on cassette when it first came out.... CL Smooth is one of the most underrated MC's.

  • man when this dropped i was in 8th grade was the hottest shit i heard goota give big bra props for introducing me to real hip hop

  • Was CL getting at Treach on this joint?

  • Na man! Naughty By Nature wasn't out yet when this came out. Actually Naughty By Nature was called New Style in which they came out in 89. The group went no where. Queen Latifah remade them in to Naught by Nature they then came out in 91.

  • SAY WORD!!!

  • to me this was better than the remix

  • THE HORNS IS INSANE, signature pete rock

  • I first heard this joint summer of 91. Tough.

  • Cla-sick!

  • I remember there was a time when i knew that i would leave the record store with at least 3-5 tapes...and ALL would be dope. Every payday it was on...it seemed endless liek it would never stop. like these classics were infinite and bottomless. Boy was i wrong. Listening to this is bitter sweet.

  • this is the best song pete rock ever did listen to how many things he has going on the horns, melody and the bass line are all complicated and classic...favorite PR shit EVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • for real. PR had sample bridges in his tracks, and that amazes me to this day. the way Pete composed a song back then was out of the planet. i found myself almost in tears after listening to this song in entirety years ago when the ep came out. this is rap perfection.

  • @mcultra Spot on...truly incredible!

  • Dopest shit ever!!

  • I found this tape after i lost it years ago and when i put it in to listen to it... it had some wack shit recorded over it. I could of kicked my sisters ass lol. I hate the fact that you could put masking tape over the holes on a tape and record over it.

  • This shit is hot.

  • yo how did he knw bout Saadam lol?? damn dem and b.i.g. knw da future realshit

  • check the facts dog...saddams been fucking shit up over there for a while.

  • Don´t you think saddam existed in 1991?

  • i knw it was jus wit da situations that hav happnd it wud b a coincidence...

  • Non stop head boppin!

  • yes! hip hop is real baby. and its repped in this song. #truestory i always hated the video version. i felt like i got raped. i was like where is the funk!!?!? hahaha ya kno. "you couldnt bag me boy w a hefty...train like rocky but still cant step 2 me" jheaaaaaah....cl is a beast with the metaphors check my mixes ~raghkstar

  • moogoogaipan

  • this is my shit right about now...on repeat

  • The hardcore few tend to look for...

    Straight timeless reality.
