  • I was surprised that there are so many variations of this song. I was brought up with a different variation but still liked yours. It brought a smile to my face to play this for my 3 month old son and it soothed him so much he fell asleep....

  • Can you play the Tom & Jerry version? watch?v=uOwhrCkMiKA

  • even though i know it isn't, something about this song is sad to me.

That's the best part about it, i think.

  • The first time I heard this was from the rooftop singers.

  • Awesome song, awesome music, frankly I loved it more than Presley's version.

A thought for you from India :)

  • I'd love to have these lyrics. It's like the words we sang to our children 30 years ago. Love your video

  • My mother sang this and played it on her guitar too...she passed away last week. Thank you for this..

  • I agree, best version right here!

  • took my breath to hear this. my grandma used to sing it to me. thank you. :)

  • This song is one of the most vivid I tie to my childhood. My father and grandfather each sang it to me at one point or another.

  • Very good. I need to let my grandbabies hear this. thanks for sharing.

  • *applauding* very nicely done!

  • Do you have a CD of your stuff??

  • You have special voice and consent. i enjoyed the song a-lot.

  • Groundhog ends with cornbread. Was food a common ending for songs in the old days?

  • best version I heard, ever

  • someone just mentioned this song on Facebook and it brought back memories from childhood when we would sing it (badly) on road trips...my now 14 year old is pretending not to listen as I play it now...but despite his groans I know he likes it as much now as he did when he was younger and had better taste in music )

  • My 6 month old son, Tommy, loves your videos! This is his favorite one. Anytime he gets a little fussy, all we have to do is turn on your songs and he is mesmerized by you! He started listening to you at only a couple of weeks old. Do you have videos for sale? I'd love to have all of your songs for car trips or other times when he gets cranky. Also, do you know "Bill Grogan's Goat"?

  • Thanks - great video. I remember this from grade school.

  • wow.. my dad would sing this to me when i was little. Good times!! he passed away in 2002. There was another song i think the name of it was When we went roller skating. i cant find it on here but would love to hear it again..

  • I know this song since I was a little child. It was one of those songs everyone wanted to sing on music class at school.

Thank you for posting this, I enjoyed your singing and playing very much. =)

  • i learned this in school

  • It seem everyone has there own lyrics to this song. The other day I searched lyrics to Tom Dooley and one of the web sites said there were over 90 known verses to the song. This is one of those songs.

  • no offense, but Dylan'd version is waaayyy better

  • @tomaf

Yeah no offense, but Tennessee Wiliams could have written much better comments than you do...

  • LOL, too true. i get your point

  • oh yeah, well Bob Dylan could write a much better comment than Tennessee Wiliams could. ;-P

  • Thank you for sharing video with us, I liked it very much!

  • Thank you so much for the song. Takes me waaaaaaayyyyyy back - and now i'm old - will sing and play (studying your finger placement) it to my grand daughter.

  • im learnin this song in school its slightly different

  • beautyful

  • Awesome! My Great Grandma used to sing that to me and ALL the kids in my family when we were little. She died at 93...8 years ago. Brings back great memories of laying on the swing with her, looking up at the stars while she sang to me!

  • I see quite a few similiar comments to what I wanted to say...my grandpa used to play and sing this to me all the time and he has now passed away. I couldn't remember all the words and I wanted to sing it to my little girl. Brought back great memories. Good job and thanks :)

  • Can you play AND sing 'Arkansas Traveler'?

  • can u play the jaw harp?

  • Not well...

  • Good job Lew. Great memories!! The Uke sounds great too......

  • I loved this as a kid and as i grew up i forgot the words.

  • nice work mate, havent herd these songs for atleast 15 years

  • scrambleeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Crambone!!!!!

  • This is pretty good

  • great great great

  • my uncle sings this song every year around the campfire.I cant get enough of this song

  • i love baritone uke. I play along on my banjo with you a lot haha

  • I prefer Uncle Pecos's version in Tom & Jerry :)

  • lol! i love that one too but this is good as well

  • it's very pretty and flexible. i enjoy good music and older songs that actually were meant for happiness lol. not suicides like today's music

  • thank you so much for posting this. I have no clue who you are, but I searched all over the net for this song. I have to know the tune, I know there is a massive variation on the lyrics, cuz older songs are awesome like that. They're clean, and peaceful, no matter how violent they really are lol. They are always so cheerful, unlike this new crap. But my girlfriend loves this song. her gramps use to sing it to her, so I decided to learn it. I love this song though, and not just cuz of her.

  • i love this song. i have ever sence i was a little girl, my grandpa would sing it to me when i whent to bed at night. grate job on sing it.

  • kind of strange how the old Civil-war marching tunes are sung today most of the times altered

  • Sorry, that was probably the copious quantities of alcohol speaking.

  • I'm sure you know that there are a number of other verses. When my great great great grandmother wrote the song, it was actually, "A Frog Went a'courtin' he did go." NOT "Froggy went a courtin..." My great great great grandmother is probably spinnin in her grave just about now knowing what has been done to her song.

  • Great perforance and awesome old song 5 stars

  • Great performance, I'm really starting to like the Ukulele(especially the tenor has a beautiful mellow sound), I might just go pick one up.

  • You might find it interesting to learn that ukes have only 4 strings. What he is playing has 6 and is probably called a guitar (but I'm really not 100% sure what the thing is called, but she ain't a uke).

  • It really is a uke, a big one(from my research it's the 2nd largest in the ukulele fam), but it's a uke, and I'm not sure how you got the impression Lew's uke had 6 strings, because I count only 4(you can push pause, and count the tuning keys, if you don't have a high-res screen).

  • Thanks bulls. I do have a high res screen but havent invested in the high res eyeballs or brain matter. Maybe if I get money for Xmas.

  • Holy crap! dude i swear my great great grand mother wrote this song if im not mistaking. I might be wrong My grand mother said its in the library of congress.

  • That's awesome, she probably wrote one of the later versions(because there's many of 'em around, like with a lot of folk-songs), because the first known appearance of this song was in 1548 or 1549, in a: Complaynt of Scotland(back then it was called Froggy would a-wooing go)

  • We must share the same great great grandmother. My grandmother told me the same thing. hmmm

  • i love it!! this is really cute! thanx for postin' it :)

  • An excellent rendition. Thank you.

  • Excellent song and singing!

  • This is too good! This is a song I was taught when I was a child. I actually had the sing along book and loved it dearly. I have been searching for this for so long. You are truely a joy to children.

  • Still my favorite song!

  • Thank you so much my grandmother used to sing this to us many years ago. It has many memories 5 - Stars.....

  • Well, this is very well done. Good job. I agree with your logic, quite a bit of stuff in this song is weird, but it's still a nice song. I'd love for someone to upload the music video from the National Film Board of Canada, Mr. Frog Went A Courtin. That was my favorite version of the song and the video was very well done.

  • Well done sir.

  • How can a mouse and a frog live together? Wouldn't their respective environments be alien to the other?

See my song "Chicken Said" for a response to this pressing problem.

  • And just imagine what the kids would look like!

  • Nice Song :)
