  • fking amazing freeze -.- nice lightning, good detail, Pro.

  • lololol canon commercial while he uses nikon !

  • fantastic i like ur vids a lot as i'm still biggener

  • What photo editing software do you use?

  • @ISuNsHiNeX adobe lightroom 3

  • I like the deconstruction vid! I do it all the time anyways and now I can see if I am close or not on how the photo was taken.

  • where do you live? i need lessons.

  • I would love to do some photos like this, but the autofocus (single and continous) are not the best on the D3100...

  • @TheUndergroundRave use manual focus, its fast and continous. :)

  • I really like the first person camera tutorial, maybe sometime down the road they will make connector to record inside the view finder

  • bring back Zack Fro!

  • I wouldn't've guessed the lens as there are way too many variables, but the lighting looks too clean and even for a flash light (unless it was super well balanced), but it looked like it was just a well frozen image with a high-ish ISO. I thought it was a bit higher, but it was right along the right lines. It is really just a case of a well captured image... No fanciness, just plain ol' composition, some luck and a lot of creativity.

  • Excellent shot, and that 70-200 2.8 is definitely a great lens, tack sharp!

  • thanks so much for doing this, I love deconstructing photos! It helps me determine in advance what settings are best for the particular shot that I want, without PSA modes. Sometimes I make calculations for every ISO from 100-1600, since people like to experiment with high isos and wide apertures in broad daylight for freeze motion and narrow dof. Recently I've been shooting with film, so I'm looking forward to learning from these videos!

  • Tack Sharp, interesting view looking at the top of the skaters head, typical inner city, (Philly) look, nice shot.

  • def keep this up mate i like a lot and i think i was pretty close i just thought that maybe you were trying to trick us so i said maybe it was taken with the new nikon 1 cameras or the d7000

  • Looks like a 360 flip.

  • Great series

  • Hey jared, Would you say a 70-200mm is a good general purpose lens?

  • @jordansalkeld1 Definitely not, do you think 70mm is a good general purpose wide angle??? Sorry, but a good wide angle is about 18mm for a crop sensoror 27mm for full frame

  • @pagani8 Never said a wide angle?

  • @jordansalkeld1 Well, my idea of a good general purpose lens is not one that starts extremely zoomed.

  • Hi Jared, I find it great, that you and Adam help us beginners so much! Thank you very much!!! Best regards from Germany

  • you should of used me as the skater... CHE!

  • @MikeGnar513 lets do it.

  • Really love the first person shooter shots

    really interesting

  • Do you think the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX lens would be good for shooting skateboarding?

    Thanks a lot, Jared!

  • @Kygroh it would be fine but you would have to get very close to the subject which could be tough.

  • @JaredPolin What other lens would you recommend? Under $1,000 and AF-S, please.

    Thanks again!

  • @Kygroh Wider angle lenses can be really good for shooting skateboarding because you need to get close. This is even more important in filming, but can be used to the same effect in photos.

  • man thats what i said. 1/1000 f/4 70mm no flash with 70-200mm lens!

  • You should go to your local skatepark on an overcast day and snap some pics of good skaters... i think you would take some awesome pics.... find someone that can blunt or feeble very long also someone that's really good at skating handrails or stairs and those will be some amazing pics

  • @Enj01 that would be a lot of fun.

  • frooooo, wheres yo hair???

  • Man i was so curious its really cool to do these things!

  • You know what you need in your videos??? More contents less talk! Good Luck!

  • @BDJOEcustomvideos thanks, do you have any videos up for me to consume?

  • @JaredPolin This guy has exactly two vids posted. With no content at all (and some artificial flowers filmed) his remark: this is...aehm, a mp4 file.

You are cool, Jared. You are young and so you speak. Personally, I learnt a lot from you and from Adam. You have personality. Go for it. You are more for the arts in photography, at least that's how I see it. There are others that are more technical educating. Greetings from snowy Switzerland!

  • @davidkaiserch thanks man.

  • i was sooooo close lol and i didnt even realize that the histogram was even on

  • Great shot. I really like the new series. More Please.

  • Hehe, I was right about camera, lens & aperture. :) Didn't guess ISO or shutter though..

  • Comment removed

  • Flip Varial!!!! Fail.

  • Hah! I nailed the aperture and the focal length dead on but everything else I missed. :)

  • i got it near lol

  • i like the deconstruction video idea. i think it will be helpful to many of us who are relatively new to photography and would like to get out of auto.

  • i like this first person shooter thing :)

  • hey jared, can you explain a bit more about the iso being so high to do with the shutter speed?

if you could awnser me that would be great!

    thanks scott

  • @scuzznightrunner The shutter speed for this photo was high (to freeze the guy in motion without any blurs). The faster the shutter speed, the less light goes into the sensor, so he had to use a very high iso (very high sensitivity for light on the sensor) to make use of the low amount of light coming in.

  • @OfficialRedux aahh right thanks very much! that helped alot!

  • @scuzznightrunner I kept it high to give me a very fast shutter speed which aloud me to freeze the motion in its tracks.

  • @scuzznightrunner higher iso means that the image sensor will capture more light, allowing you to use a faster shutter speed and still come out with a bright picture.

allowing you to freeze action (like jared said) and have similar results as a flash would

  • @scuzznightrunner faster shutter speed makes the picture darker because more light cant get in. He used f4 aperture and didn't want to go to f 2.8 where he would have more light. Then the ISO was high because it is the sensitivity to light. The higher iso the more sensitive the sensor will be to light. So with a fast shutter speed, you cant use low iso because not enough light would come in.

  • @scuzznightrunner high ISO = sensor more sensitive to light = faster shutter speed ;)

  • how does your zoom make your exposure blow out? didnt you have the same settings?

  • @stylzalike Blown out can mean both white areas, due to over exposure, or the background being blurry. It used to always trick me...

  • haha... I just got through watching a move trailer for Straw Dogs that started when I came here to watch your video. Trailer ended and I was so intrigued I forgot whey I was here in the first place until your theme music started. I guess those things work.

  • @love2lu ha thats cool.

  • Love your videos Jared

  • Great Light, Great colour, Great Contrast...

but you can't use the photo if the trick wasn't landed! Skateboarding rule...

  • @KieranWPhotography ha, i did not know that.

  • it would be also cool if you'd sum up some of the good comments and ideas from Comments of previous video )

  • Jared, just press "i" button twice to get the date of the picture.

  • more Jared more!

  • I think it would be good to see the same thing shot at 200mm to compare.

  • More of this!
