Good luck finding a new in the wrapping copy of this "A Dark Enchantment" CD. I have been looking for years. This brings me back to the Houston club scene in the late 80s. What good times.
Fantastic song, one of the best ever played at the Exchange Hotel! But.....can someone if they have it please please post the video clip! They used to play it at the Exchange about 10pm every Friday and Saturday night. I'd make sure I was there to see and would love to see it again.
Just posted a note on Love's Taboo - Cube. This song goes hand in hand with oh so pleasant memories of that song! i envy you all that are in possession of this song - such good memories!! God - those days of 1986 - 1987 - so fabulous!! Such good times....
u can stream "classic live 105" now but they dont play the more exotic songs like this one or that french song, just ones from pixies/police/tears for fears/cure/depeche mode/alphaville/etc... not even that boom boom boom song
man for about a decade and a half i was pining to hear steve master's 3 hour saturday night mixes again... only had 1 tape of it that has a huge ABC medley, still havent found that on utube... there's also an unknown song i love on that tape i've never found anywhere :(
This was one of my club faves. I have the 12" of The Magician and Sneakyville on both vinyl and CD. You can find copies of "A Dark Enchantment" for sale on the net. They can go for upwards of $300 though. I still don't own a copy. You will not find any "new in the wrapping" unless you are fortunate. I spoke to Peter's wife online not too long after he passed away and she doesn't even have a new copy of the "A Dark Enchantment" CD or the 12" vinyl version of this song.
reminds me of a dust to dawn club in new orleans. always a line to get in at 6:30 inthe morning.when i first heard this. i think I was 25, I'm42 ys now. loved it then love it now
This was the record. It was only available for such a short time. AND I MISSED IT!!!!! One of the biggest regrets of my life. Fortunately SFNsDEE is f**king on the ball!! Living in Europe now I sooooooo miss those wonderful comparatively carefree days in San Francisco.
I have been obsessed with this song for yeeeeeers! A few years ago, I got an 80s alternative cd just for this song (and Danse Society's "Say it Again. Extended versions too. HOT DAMN!). I've been listening to this song just about every daggone day since gettin' that cd and I never get tired of it. Thank you for puttin' it up here for others to enjoy!
i agree. i had a cassette of secession thats stuck in storage in hawaii-when i go back i'll convert to mp3 :) do you remember the name of the cd you landed up getting? i have one that has this as well as when in rome, cetu javu, desireless, and the infamous paul lekakis song boom boom boom. heehee. but i've been looking for the danse society one since they don't have it for download that i've been able to track down so far. thx :)
Terrific! Big thx! A couple of years ago in San Francisco, I saw that a band named Secession was playing either at Bottom of the Hill or Slims. Never made the show but I've always wondered if that was the this band with a new vocalist or another band altogether. Does anyone know?
Thank you SO very much for putting this up. I've been trying to find this track again for years. Literally.
Just curious, do you just have this as a single or do you have the full album? If you've got the full album, you are quite lucky indeed. Limited to only 100,000 copies.
I own the full album (vinyl & cd) as well most of the 12" singles. I always hear how limited "A Dark Enchantment" is but I've seen it for sale numerous times. I picked up two copies of the vinyl, payed $1 for one and $3 for the other.
i have a friend here in tampa who says the same thing about the album although i also bought it used for a couple bucks and still see it from time to time at record stores...
WOW where at in Tampa? I found my copy in Orlando while I was on Vacation they dont have many to no vinyl stores in Bradenton, like 2 in sarasota tha rest are in either Miami,Tampa,or Orlando!!
@sfsindee Oh you gotta be shittin' me! $1? and $3? I'm assuming you mean "HUNDRED". Right? You can't even buy an mp3 song for $1 dollar these days, let alone a CLASSIC, OUT OF PRINT MASTERPIECE ALBUM THAT IS "A DARK ENCHANTMENT"
@rob5hh Nope, you read it right. Mind you I made those purchases about 15 years ago, but I still see the vinyl from time to time for less than $20 here in San Francisco.
@sfsindee I visit SF pretty often (used ot live in the bay area, I DK at New Wave City every few months)...if you see Dark Enchantment on disc or vinyl for under $20 would you mind saving me a copy? I will get you a drink at New Wave City for your trouble ; )
@rob5hh I got mine for 2 bucks but that's cause I had friends working at the record store and I gave a list of stuff to look for in the used buys that came through. A year later I got this, touch, and sneakyville 12"s for less than 7 bucks.
@Scatterbrain2012 yeah back in the day I think I paid 10 bucks for this when it came out. I have seen copies around for about 20 bucks in the Houston area at trade shows and such. Great song!
Holy crap! I've found my people! Cool. I was there in the late 80's. I was about to ask if anyone went to Stargaze but that is covered here too. It was an incredible time! Now I'm 41 and live in Virginia :( The club scene is dismal unless you just like to get drunk and puke
Yeah... I remember getting this single at the Record Rack, back then there were so many great places to get toonz, like Rough Trade on 6th, Butch Wax, Leopolds in Berkeley and a punk pace call Rather Ripped in Berkeley and so many more. We went to Stargaze when I was young, later Primary and then the Paladium on Thursday and 15 Minutes on Wed, Das Club and The Oasis. Now There's New Wave City, at the DNA, Temptation & Strangelove at the Cat Club and Pop Scene for the younk folks...
@QuakeCityRockers Yep, bought my copy of the CD at Butchwax. I bought so many imports there and the Record Rack that couldn't be found elsewhere. Good times.
sfsindee, thank you again for posting this rare track. I've listened to it about 100 times now, just get such a rush from this song and brings back so many memories, SF in the 80's was the place to be.
omg. Thanks for posting this. I haven't head this song for 20 yrs. I used to play this in a club. People always asked me who sang this song. I had to play it 3 times every night.
totally. i remember when live 105 had all the great DJ's, did their top 105 of the year... the minute they started playing metallica was their doom! they totally suck now.
My cousin introduced me to Secession back in 89' and I use to love dancing to this song! But he tossed the CD and I wished he would have given the CD to me! I love this song...
Great song, one of my fav's from that era. Anyone remember the KQAK (the Quake) in SF? Anyone who can sit still while listening to it needs to be checked for a pulse. Hard to find too, thanks for posting it here!!!!
@gowconstruction I was there for the Live 105 Days... Alex Bennet, Big Rick Stewart, Lori Thompson (spelling?), Lori the program director (I think). She was a friend of my brother, so I always got tickets for their boat events. Saw the B-52's and Blondie on the boat! Man, I miss the 80's.
Wow!!! This definitely was one of my favorites for the 80's! There is something so cool about the rhythm and melody to this song that makes you want to move!! Thanks a million for posting this!!!!
If ya can find it on CD for under 50 bucks get it its well worth it probably one of tha most underrated albums from tha 80's..on Amazon or Ebay I know its like $75 or over!
Nice. This brings me back to the "Good Old Days" of: Live 105.3 FM San Francisco (when they still played Modern Rock, not "Alternative"), The Edge in Palo Alto, One Step Beyond in Santa Clara, Club X, Das Klub and The Palladium in San Francisco. Thanks!
