Remember she's not american she's japanese, that's why she had problems remembering english as well as japanese words sometimes.

but Ayaka moved to Hawaii when she was 12 so she should be very fluent(which she is)

Yes she's fluent but even americans don't know the whole english language. At 12 Ayaka found it harder to learn english because at that age, she had passed the years that count to learn a language well, that's why she didn't remember some words sometimes. It's the same thing that happened to Mika, she speaks japanese but she did have problems sometimes when she spoke, forgeting words and not knowing what to say. I guess Ayaka is 50% 50% with both languages. Carlos :-þ

She's married to a golfer now. Don't know if she still working in show business. She's about 27 now. Yes lol she could teach me english and japanese any time lol.
