well i would say, there are little things to do, (maybe not much playing at all, out of form?), . Like one said before, there are some voices getting not through really
@teplin444 You're WELL on your way to mastering the "technical" side of this piece...the notes are where they should be, which is no mean accomplishment by itself!! That said, even with Bach you must also put your Heart and you Soul into your performances. You must BECOME the music, while the music lasts, to quote T. S. Eliot. A true artist is about ART, not the dogged pursuit of technical perfection. Horowitz, for example - wrong notes flying everywhere but WHAT MUSIC!!!!
I don't think it's too fast. I looked a while until I find this one. I like it the most. It should be in this tempo. perfect. Don't like the slow versions, where you'll fall asleep.
It's not that it's too fast, but rather on the aggresive side. Not agressive in the emotional way, but rather as if you don't like the piece and letting your stress out on it.
Sorry if this sounds offence, only constructive criticism. This video is a fabulous display of techinique that is much longed for.
Though well done, the tempo is quarter=80. That is the perfect tempo according to Bach. It is common for young keyboardists to go too fast. Check out Glenn Gould's interpretations of the Goldberg Variations at the beginning and end of his life- prime example.
@ronbobathon writes, "the tempo is quarter=80." According to whom? Bach never provided a metronome mark for a single one of his works, for the simple reason that the mechanical metronome had not yet been invented (and wouldn't be until the early 19th century). And just because pianists (and conductors) often slow down in later years that is no argument for or against any tempo.
I certainly couldn't play like that when I was your age! Bravo....though I will say it is too fast for this particular piece! Playing quickly can seem impressive but you must remember the style of the piece you're playing!! Always keep that in mind. You have an incredible talent!
WAY too fast. For me fugues should be taken slow so that the counterpoint gets fully realized and the listener can listen. You play very well though, nothing wrong with this at all.
@5RetardedSquirrels There is no tempo indicated on the score, so long you don't go mad there's a lot of leeway, and, frankly, I can pick out the counterpoint at a faster tempo. I would say that the counterpoint isn't as well conveyed because your touch needs to be lighter - aim more for a on-legato touch. As @canman5060 says, the voices should be dynamically equal - the harpsichord was dynamically uniform, and the fugue as a form is written to suit.
actually this is the best I've heard by a young man. I see lots of asian kids play it, and they know how to mess up everything by playing as fast as possible to show off, but they have no spirit when they play. This is well done and the tempo is even.
no i'm not saying " the kid's asian, therefore can't do anything". of course they're good at piano, otherwise no one would see them play. But most times i have ever seen this played live, it is by an Asian kid, who plays it only because they can play it so fast. It's part of their culture to study rigorously, and this seems as good as any to play too fast. This young man plays well by not playing super-fast. I'm not good at words, so I didn't mean to insult.
Never heard an interpretation like this of this piece. I loved it! Well played too.

*GASP* is that...pedaling that I see?
Nooo pedaling in Bach's inventions, sinfonias and fugues! Finger-pedaling will carry the necessary notes out.
Other than this, very well done!

Sir,
I think it's a great interpretation of this Bach's Fugue.
The Sound is remarkable and the Tempo is right.

dude, a bit too harsh on the sound.
i think you should play the voices of the song good sound like this,
but the others with less force.
good use of fingers, tempo...
but make sure you pay attention to a few voices that are hidden along with other notes on the same hand.
when this is the case, ALWAYS play OUT the voices with as much contrast than the other notes executed at the time.
hope you can improve! Perfect isn't always good...
but nice job! can tell you tried very hard...

You should pay just a bit more attention to bring certain voices out at different times.

I like the preludes to be faster and the fugues taken a little slower myself, but you are an amazing player so don't listen to me!

It's funny, cos to me the piano sounds somewhat out of tune. Anyone else notice that?

It is no too fast but a faster than what Bach's intention was.Brilliance in performance but all the parts of the fugue have the same sound volume.

tempo is perfect, and the volume too. I could hear the theme every time, when it was written. You played it very good.

Eli that's right, it's a bit fast and what a pity because you play it well. Forget a bit the technic and give space to emotion.

that is SO racist!!
they arent showing off at all!
i think that asian kids are extraordinary at piano!
you are being extremely biased
they have a ton of spirit when they play
it isnt nice to say that about other people!!!!

I totally agree. Anyone can play piano with practice! And Asian kids really know how to play, because they practice like three hours a day.
Thanks for agreeing with me!!!
