I read about it on wikipedia, not sure if it's canon or not but I'm pretty sure it is. It's like an easteregg for fans, like Bubastis in the Watchmen movie

There is a statue of good ol' Roger in the first movie. He was almost in the the movies but in the end he wasn't. Although their were some replicas made. I found a lifesize would have been movie roger on ebay a while back.

in the corridor scenes leading up to hellboys room. he stands in a glass case, in a dormant state, but you have to look quick to see him.

I really hated how they showed Roger in BPRD when Captain D. was introduced. They made him too dumb, almost retarded.
I'm glad they gave him some dignity and intelligence when he died.

Actually, I don't think he was dead. I think he was in a dormant state. If there is a third one, whoever directs it might change the story line around and have him come to life at the Bureau instead of a castle in Romania.
