I've done this many times only problem in this equation is the failure to remove plugs and slid match/fuse under shot.... Safest way is your first method. I personally pull Visco and insert black match into first tube or quick fuse, makes response time instant! But I'm always careful to gently insert new fuse/match and the same with pulling original visco leader.
First i want to say that i didn't know about this way to connect cakes with quickmatch, i think i'm going to try it this year!
But what i saw from the video was that it worked with the 3rd and 4th cake, but the quickmatch to the last 2 cakes didn't go off at all! So what i'm wondering is: Is this way to connect cakes really effective? Or do you recommend another method?
I want to know this because i want to make a show and i don't want it to fail throughout the show.
what you should have done i i thought you would have done is at the bottom of the cake cut a piece of the visco (that connects the shots it will be faster than if you light the normal ignition fuse on the side) on an angle and than inserted the quick match over that because lighting the quick match from the muzzel flash is easy but lighting lift which is bellow a plug and a shell dosnt sound reliable to me didnt want to say this till you had tested it though
I recon it would work, (and it did) but before I saw it, I thought it would have worked because alot of flame comes out of that tube and BM is fairly easy to light.
If you're afraid of cops, then that obviously means you shouldn't be lighting fireworks in your area. Laws are laws. Don't break them. It only causes problems.
Great video again dave I really enjoyed this one,all of your videos have really helped me out in making my firework shows better and look great please keep the great videos coming!

While what you said is true I must ask - If you didn't want to say it until after it was tested then why say it now?

becuse i had not tried lighting a cake from the top i had always assumed it wouldn't work and it did prove to be unrelible

Fair enough.
Of course the only way to know for sure is to try though! Experimenting is good.

thats why i didnt say anything till it was tested
