Probably just a level adjust and a color adjustment layer in after effects. It's pretty easy to wash out the color and increase contrast.

you must not watch a lot of the discovery channel because that's no special effects that's a car with gasoline in it and two guys standing a fair distance away from it

You must not do much video editing. Color Correction is not a CG effect, it's just a way to enhance image contrast and color. EVERY television show uses color correction. Any professional film you ever see will use color correction and level correct. The definitely did use this technique on the video. But, yes, I know you are correct that was an actual car explosion, not CGI.

@Budokid - the camera looks like its zoomed in on those 2 guys, which is why it looks like their close up, but they aint really, just clever camera work. also the guy jumping was fake i reckon - people dont jump, they get "thrown" and it usually causes them internal damage from the shockwave of the explosion
