  • Steve Ellis was superb live - saw him at the Adelphi in Slough 2 times, when Everlasting love was released, and the Love Affair group were great and Steve was BRILLIANT.

  • Jonathan, you handled this interview really well. Even here in New Zealand. there were rumbles of controversy. The objection may have been because the backing sounded SOOO magnificent! But here is an interview of surprising maturity. And you were right to say at the end that session musicians were all over the place - you just need to look at biographies of the likes of Joe Osborn and Hal Blaine in California to see what I mean. Mr Tambourine Man by the Byrds? Its the music as many say!

  • Priceless stuff Jon, many thanks.

  • Jonathan King.......TWAT ....end of

  • What a shame that most of the original tapes were wiped, I loved this band

  • Thanks for posting this. I remember the controversy at the time and I thought I was the only person who hadn't forgotten. Shades of Milli Vanilli - management and marketing pushing the limits of fair play too far. It should've been their management getting the grilling, not the band.

  • Jonathan, do you not have any clips of Scott Walker. You wrote the sleeve notes for Scott 2, can you not talk about that or the first 4 Scott LPs in general. I dont want to hear any dirt on Scott, only his art. I just read the latest book on the Walkers and while I think its the best book yet none of the writers have even meet Scott. He was a mate of yours in the 60s. What do you think of Scott 3 and 4 and why do you think Scott 4 didnt sell. You where there, what are your thoughts. All the best

  • Even the Beach Boys used lots of session musicians as did many bands from that era! Thanks for poating this rare gem JK!

  • Sadly many tapes were wiped (cost of new ones) but I simply cannot work out why film was burned. I bought the rights to one hours worth of my series and that's all that exists.

  • @JonKing2008xx Good that some countries like Germany have the Beat club, also some have recordings of Top of the pops from the 60s in their archives which were puchased from the BBC

  • This was a very cool show indeed. I wish I could have grown up in the 60s, all the bands, and everything had such a fantastic quality to it, and might I add, Jonathan, you are so cute on this show! Cheers to you and thank you so much for the upload. :D

  • The young Johnathan King would make a really good Sherrif of Nottingham .....very Alan Rickmanesque!

  • Penny was on my show Coolit - and I was lucky enough to have a long and lovely catchup dinner with her a few years ago. Sadly, as you may know, she passed away recently.

  • If you have the clip it would be great to see it! I know she was your fellow journalist on Disc & Music Echo. I collect them and enjoy reading your old columns. You weren't very happy about 'Radio One', were you? Talking about gunpowder plots & the like!!!

  • Do you have any clips of the wonderful Penny Valentine, Jonathan? I wonder if she was ever on your show.

  • Sadly the actual Love Affair performances (like those of Jimi Hendrix and others) have been wiped/destroyed. I was offered the chance to purchase the copyright of one hour taken from the 13 hours and chose talk rather than music clips - now all, I believe, that remains.

  • Hello Again Jonathan, Many thanks indeed for this clip and the other great gems you have uploaded here of late, has been a great treat indeed to see these moments of tv history from your past. Agree with Coolitbaby that there are no officially existing performances of The Love Affair " Everlasting Love",there are stil photo slide show performances, audio only performances, however no video or actual film performances.Would be great indeed to see the clip from your show with The Love Affair ?Cheers

  • You'll find performances in Related Videos

  • Actually, Jonathan, there are no surviving 'sixties performances of The Love Affair singing 'Everlasting Love'

  • Isn't this quite strange - I've looked so many times and there isn't one performance from that time. Is there a reason for this or is it just 'one of those things'?

  • its all very wonderful but any chance of actually showing them playing everlasting love.

  • Thanks for posting this great clip. They were an excellent group with a great sound. I'm sure Steve Ellis would love to see this...I think he has a channel here on youtube. He definetely has a website.
