@MikeLovesChoppers first of all I'm glad that all the drivers and marshals involved are fine. Brands Hatch has added some fencing at the top of Paddock. You can't put fencing on the actual ambulance gate as it needs to able to opened. There are planned works at Brands this winter including at Paddock. The debris fence did do its job in keeping the car that hit the fence inside the confines of the track. Also no Asians were involved in this accident
@fresky74 Paid more? they aren't paid at all at the moment...they would be too expensive to pay any way with the number race tracks need. Motorsport would disappear in the UK
It was a freak accident, but the circuit as was didn't contain it although I am sure everyone will now be glad to here it would in future. The drivers couldn't brake, their front wheels are off the ground when youlook closely! One of those "racing incidents" I think and no point pointing fingers at drivers or circuits. Lets just be grateful no-one has come off any worse than they did and appreciate the footage for the remakable insight that it is.
i think its about time brands hatch had a serious look at its facilities, especially the barriers, this is the second major crash where a car has taken off after hitting a barrier (the other being the seat leon crash) the barriers are far too dangerous to keep like this, its lucky that the two crashes where in areas where there werent lots of spectators
@kirmy1 Abit late on that comment, they've totally revamped the barriers and fencing there, and its a totalyy freak accident so ther is no need to moan about the track! Yeah, Brands has had a fair few biggys over the last year, but bear in mind, they have something most weekends, where as most other tracks don't have anything near as many meetings, so Brands has far more opotunities for these freak accidents. And the drivers in there crashes, don't use their brakes, just keep on the throttle....
@kirmy1 as jackster531 says, get your facts right, the drivers play a major factor in accidents aswell. Also you seem to have ignored the fact the catch fencing did an extremely good job of keeping Chapman's car within the confines of the circuit.. New posts/catch fencing has also been erected. I'd also point out this isnt the only circuit where things like this have ocurred, look at the accident at the Slovakiaring last year. Lets see you design a better circuit at which no crashes would occur.
@brandshatchrules i never claimed to be a circuit designer, but yes the catch fence did catch one of the cars but the huge gap let one of them through, if there were people standing there there could have been serious injuries, but the point i was making is that the BARRIERS have a major design floor where the car can launch over them potentially going into the crowd. @jackster531 thanks for the info about the new barriers, this wasnt the case the last time i was at brands thanks
@kirmy1 In a sense, the huge gap was created by the obtuse angle the car was heading in. The chances of any car flying in at that angle was tiny. I'd also say, we as spectators know the risks, I choose to stand in the Middle of druids where there is no catch fencing at all, there is potential for accidents to happen at all tracks, and those that are fully encased with catch fencing, make you stand 30 yards away from the track etc do not give the same sense of speed or risk as those without....
@kirmy1 .....and thats why people love motorsport, its close, its fast, whether driving or spectating. There are signs up everywhere warning of the dangers, and frankly, if the track was completely surrounded in fencing, you just dont get the same feeling. In terms of the barriers, I feel all tracks could do with improvements in certain areas, and as I said, Brands is not the only place to have similar accidents to this.
out of all of the footage of the crash i have seen this is the best, the spectatators and marshalls were very lucky. and yes dirrdydog both drivers were ok

Thank God those people didn't walk by a few seconds later... they'd have been right in the car's path.

This is why marshals should be paid more.

@fresky74 i don't think marshalls are actually paid... i just think they don't have to pay for tickets to see the race.
