@TheZacula If Superman can fly why does he need the Supermobile? Or the Kryptonian walking robot vehicle? In the comics WW explains that the plane is used to carry people and cargo that could not survive the speeds at which she travels.

@Stanlos Superman needs air even in outer space. He can hold his breath for hours but he has his limits. So for long space travel that's why he has a ship.

Back in the 70's he did not need air to breathe DC change Superman and made him a little weaker. That was to give him more of a challenge and give the writers more to play with.

Remember, he originally didn't even have the power to fly, much less have vision powers, breath powers, or the ability to move planets. As a matter of fact, he wasn't even invulnerable. Artillery (heavy artillery, but still) was to him what bullets are to normal people. Actually... that would make a great modern character...
