  • "As far as I'm concerned, these people are just showmen." On Bear Grylls ... Ray Mears

  • hes done that before

  • @OskoreiMick I'v done your mom before

  • @MrSniper279 witty and clever! i tip my hat to you for being the first to ever use the "your mom" insult..... but then what do i expect from a yankee wanker whom is the 279th 'MrSniper'

  • if you had a mobile phone you could probably just order a pizza and forget the need to create fire :p

  • @FuckingMudaFucker Me and you mom ordered some pizza and made fire in your bed

  • @MrSniper279 you ordered pizza with my dead mother? damn dude neophilias a hell of a fetish make sure no rotten cunt splits on you. chances are chances are her decaying pussy has seen bigger maggots than your small wiener :p

  • having a fire flash to start a fire is just like having a lighter. I thought I was going to see how he starts a fire without cheating. lol

  • Ray is awesome!. He forgot more about living in the wild than I will ever know sadly.

  • what fire steel is that

  • I find the way he set the fireplace EXTREMELY dangerous

  • @anosognosico why?

  • I'd like to see ray make fire out of driftwood on icelands coast, preferrably th vestfjords

  • I like to pack lots of dryer lint in my survival kit, it makes great tinder.

  • Bear gryllis would wear this mans skin as a wetsuit.

  • @Gargantupimp Bear Gryllis has been widely reported in the press after being found staying in hotels on set. Ray actually does go and live on location using the things he talks about on the shoot. Bear is fun to watch and offers some interesting ideas but it is not the same thing at all. One is about living in the wild, the other is about short term survival and getting out of a bad situation.

  • chuck noris can start a fire by rubbing 2 ice cubes together

  • @1122skyline BRUCE LEE MO FO!

  • @1122skyline Chuck Norris is an over paid washed up actor that has been pampered all his life.

  • @o0matthowarth0o well that still doesn't change the fact that he can kick your ass by using his "Law & Order"..

  • Comment removed

  • @1122skyline Ice cubes or ice can be used to concentrate sunlight much like a magnifying glass to start a fire.

  • @1122skyline HAAHAAA !

  • the drinkin cral is returning i can tell

  • Yea hes english

  • my insperation ;)

  • Both Bear and Ray show you how to do the survival techniques. One isn't better than the other, they just have different methods of showing it. Ray demonstrates in a slow, easy to learn way. Bear shows much the same thing but in a more "realistic" survival situation. Bear never claimed that he was actually surviving and tells us that hes only demonstrating techniques if we need them. Ray is more informative, Bear is more engaging.

  • Much easier than expected.

  • it states right on that little script scene after every commercial where it says that bear is provided with materials and objects he needs in order to demonstrate survival skills thru out the show

  • people talking about how much faster bear grylls is dont realize its a hollywood made tv show and his shots are cut and put together.all his tinder is prepared at the same pace the film is just chopped so u dont see how long it really takes.not to mention i just got done watching all of bears episodes on netflix and all the animals he skins and cleans with his bare hands are caught for him.in all the scenes of trapping he ends up with nothing they just give it to him for demonstration purposes

  • You have to laugh at these people that diss Ray Mears. I wonder if they actually realise that Ray Mears teaches the SAS their survival skills?

Bear Grylls is an absolute fraud.

  • bear gryll's would show us where how and why to get tinder and would SHOW how to get the best,, he'd show us how do everything not like this fat geek who has everything ready made for him......and can rey mears drink his own piss ???? i didnt think so !

  • @Flamez201195 hahaha, when the cameras are of, Bears Grylls returns to his hotel room.

I'd like to se you eat shit in a survival situation and se how you do after that. Bear Grylls is a moron.

Ray Mears is the real deal, he teaches about survival. Bear Grylls is nothing but entertainment.

  • bear gryll's would have a fucking concert hall built out of vines before this lad gets done making a fire !

  • rey mears is such a pussy,,, he TELLS you how to make extravigent shelters and how to make massive fences around your shelter but BEAR GRYLLS gets down in the dirt and show's you effective simple survival methods whilst fighting off bears and cooking a deer he just wrestled to the ground,, alls rey mears doe's is tell you what type of plants are around you and how the ancients used them,, he's a dick !

  • @Flamez201195 You are indeed.

  • Ray has got to be one of my greatest inspirations. He was the one who inspired me to start my own outdoors centre.

  • I must have watched this 100 times and it never gets boring. Ray Mears is a natural teacher.

  • Very well explained, I can't wait to have a go

  • I like how he pulled a tool out of his pocket if we're stranded MOST LIKELY WE AREN'T GOING TO HAVE THAT -_- wtf.

  • @BRITCAT09 Never go anywhere without your Ferro Rod should be on your knife sheath in your pocket 24/7, also on your keys..

    -Mitch

  • Chuck Norris can light a fire by rubbing two ice-cubes together.

  • This dude is fucking boring I fell asleep watching this

  • Forget Cody Lundin , Ray Mears is the master of fire and survival

  • @coolrunnings1021 I've found that it's best to collect tinder and kindling in the morning and carry it in an inside pocket to dry it throughout the day. Also you'll often find the dryest wood at about hand height on any pine. The way the tree grows tends to block out the sunlight to the branches lower down which die off and are also conveniently sheltered from the wet by the branches above.

  • For fuck sake... can ANYBODY spell!??!

  • I tutely agre wiv ray. people need to chop many trees dwn as posibul. trees cause most of climat change bcos ov naturul forist fires every year. my reeserch prove this so please chop down every tree to help the envromunt and listn to ray. trees are portrayed as gud guys but yet stil cause most of globe climat change. tank u 4 pointing this out ray!

  • @SpearHunter2 Oh dear, we have a silly TROLL.

  • most of these videos are made on dry days when the wood is dry how do you start fires when it pouring rain and everythig is wet ( i live in Scotland so 9/10 it is raining)

  • @coolrunnings1021 Have a watch of Ray Mears / Fourseasons Part 7/7

  • i like bear and ray , bear is more of how to get to A to B quickly and shows different ways to get water and food , ray concentrates on explaining something from finish to end to make sure people really understand.

  • Ray Mears is one of thee best survival dudes there is, even better then me lol. But have to say this Lofty John Wiseman is awesome too. Ray seems to have a deep connection with where ever he travels. He could virtually survive any where in the world with just a Tarp and a Machete Blade.

I could teach Ray a thing or two about building and lighting fires though. haha

My self feeding wood fires are awesome and they last all night! Will post you a video soon!!!

  • MISS INFORMATION THERE RAY! Its Not called a fire flash! What your holding there is a LIGHT MY FIRE Swedish Fire Steel, it comes with its own striker and is far more effective then using your knife! , So get the name right please! Keep it real lol

Using the correct striker you get about 12000 strikes! using a knife you only get about 8000 strikes, use it wisely and correctly.

Seeker or truth and justice hahaha Good video though!!!!

  • @MrNativeDancer It's actually Ray's own firesteel. I have one myself and it's alot better than the LMF one :)

  • @CiaranRooney125 Hey you serious? Thanks for that information! Is it really better then the Swedish one? It just looked exactly the same as my Swedish one the one Ray is using? Where would I get one from, am seriously interested in getting one if its even better then the LMF one? Cheers :)

  • @MrNativeDancer No problem bud, You can pick up one of Ray's online shop. £10 well worth the money will last for decades! Sends of showers of sparks, Hope this helped :)

  • the wood is warm

  • when scraping berch bark scrape slowly and softly to get fine dust like shavings

or scrape fast and hard to get thicker bigger scapings i hope this helps you all in lighting future fires if your going to use this information please put it to good use by putting the fires out correctly thenk you

P.S i am the original mrjamjam if you dont beleive me check my runescape username "mrjamjam" i have had my account for almost 5 years and ive never changed my username and i never will.

    thanks

  • Ray Mears is great. I hate Bear Grylls, really who is ghonna accidentally fall out of a helicopter in Turkey. To get down a river Bear uses his parachute to make a raft, Ray builds a kayak. Bear eats slugs, Ray goes and finds a fish. Ray is a legend.

  • @ProjectProXdotcom this guys pretty good but bear does all the same shit he at lobster on episode he caught himself but its like ur comparing to different shows ray shows u all the stuff u need to survive where bear shows u how to get out of the woods as fast as possible wile u still have ur strength to survive

  • what state or country is this in.. so beautiful

  • @BadBoyinTown1000 somewhere in the uk i think =)

  • Hahah ya clear the floor to minimize the risk of fire, but then leave a GIANT pile of super flammable pine needles right next to said fire. That's the ticket.

  • PS: Iv watched Rays programmes for years and Iv never heard him give any information that would put my life in danger, unlike other individuals who expect you to bungy jump down sheer cliffs, go into cave routes or climb elevator ropes.

  • Everyone stop arguing about who you're gay for, shut the fuck up, and watch the video, isn't that what you came here for?

  • Anyone know wherre i can find out how to light a fire using only natural materials?

  • @darrellmonks If you have 17 minutes to spare, check my two-part bow drill video. There are several other vids coming from me with other details such as how to get natural fibre for the cord, but this one should be a good start, as I tried to emphasize all the crucial details ensuring success. Good luck !

  • ray, il vero maestro del survival

  • I bought a firesteel a while ago and found that it is practically impossible to get a fire going using the 'striker' they provide (a 4cm long powder coated thing with a serrated striking surface) but that using the back of a high carbon blade or a stanley utility knife blade it is very easy, the sparks are also much redder. I was wondering if anyone else might have had the same problem, seems kinda odd that the purpose built striker is so poorly designed...

  • @lukewarmpotatoes it was probably added as an after thought by someone who sits behind a desk.

  • @lukewarmpotatoes

from experience it depends which side if the striker you use. One will be smooth, the other sharper - which is the one that works. Obviously depends on what particular one you have though, it could also be a faulty item that you have.

  • I got a firesteel with the same problem the striker was no good. It does strike but can't be done the way Ray Mears shows. I tried that and couldn't do it that slow, only shavings would com e off. Same with the back of a carbon blade. It had to be a quick motion to get any sparks going. Plus they were shooting off in every direction but the right one. I've came to the conclusion that Swedish firesteels are the best and believe that is the one Ray Mears is using. The thicker the better.

  • @Dave54600 Yep i have Rays' firesteel it's the best i've ever used. Also he files the back of his knife to get more sparks at a slow pace :)

  • @CiaranRooney125 Never thought of filing the knife. Cheers mate!

  • Sadly a few people on here seem to be taking comments all too literally and seriously.

The 20 year old throwing around phrases such as 'gay' and 'drama queen' could do with A. reading my comment from a week ago and B. learning to make a point without resorting to immature homophobia (which just makes you look about 12)

  • If he said one of the most important skills I would agree, fire starting is not the most important... I think water searching/making sure safe/gathering/cleaning is more important, but even though ray made this comment here I think he gives equal or more weight to water overall in all his vids.

  • is this serious? :L

  • To all of those small minded individuals who seem to have the need to compare two totally different people and their respective tv shows, GET A LIFE!

Ray Mears and Bear Grylls are two different people who have different tv shows. If they were the same there would be no point. If you don't like one of them, don't watch them!!!

Ray has his tempo and way of doing things, Bear has his, they are different styles of show. I like both, so I watch and enjoy both.

  • pause at 2:18 lol

  • Mears è un vero insegnante di survival! Molto meglio di bear...mears maestro

  • good video thank you a lot.

  • Bear teaches you how to SURVIVE in the wild.

Ray teaches you how to LIVE in the wild.

  • @survivalkid2452 Living is surviving though. lol

  • @spartanses living is surviving in comfort. surviving is getting through each day by the skin on your teeth

  • @survivalkid2452 Absolutly true!! good call!!!!

  • this guy is amazing. i learnt so much. i thought i could just stop studying and could survive in the woods for the rest of my life

  • Why don't you like Bear Grylls?

  • boring

  • @zachmattdcfc yea bear is alot more entertaining to watch

  • Let's face it, if you're stuck out in the wild, you want Ray with you, or more importantly his knowledge.

Ray's a busy man, but his knowledge can go with anyone who pays attention. That's a gift. =)

  • dat iz coo where wude u get a sparker

  • Just made my first ever fire using a firesteel and striker and some wood from the backyard. It felt good.

  • Some people seem to confuse survival situations with bushcraft, the latter being a situation you put yourself in to practice certain skills, so of course you'll have the necessary kit to get by, as for survival it can also be self-imposed but if your plane goes down in the jungle,(I travel with a small magnifying glass) it's very likely you won't have either a knife of any fire making methods at hand, so improvisation and perhaps bushcratft skills will come handy. Ray Mears is about bushcraft.

  • I hate how easy he makes it look :D

  • ray mears is a fountian of information

  • never put your flint and steel in the same pocket.

  • @Passwordcracks Why not? it would take enough friction between them to chip some of the steel off to actually create a spark.

  • @TheJoshy1992 yes but it's just a safety thing, if you lean against something it puts pressure on the two then bang pow right in the kisser your dead

  • @Passwordcracks Fair enough, I hadn't considered something incidentally putting pressure on it. Still I don't think its likely to kill you.. XD

  • @TheJoshy1992 set you on fire

  • I've got a few moments because my preparation was done properly... :D

  • his fingernails are dirty

  • I just love this video, I've watched most videos if not all the vids.

BTW RP, have you ever met Ray Mears ? I could only imagine he is as nice

in person as he seems in his shows

  • He has a KNIFE and a piece of FLINT, he might aswell just have a ZIPPO LIGHTER,

  • another handy trick is the good ol cotton wool balls impregnated with vaseline, I keep a good compressed wad in an old tobacco pouch (keeps it dry). and if you don't have a fire steel, you can (with a great deal of effort and patience) use the good old flint method, but don't expect miracles. the blacker the flint, the better for sparks.

  • @crazysaint222 how long before replacing the cotton wool balls with vaseline?

  • @TheGreatKas

how do you mean? how often i refill the pouch with them or how often they need recoating in vaseline?

    :)

  • Mooi hoor, zeker midden in de zomer, (lukt het iedereen om vuur te maken)

  • Ritchie, thank YOU very much!!

  • oh so the trick to this is the logs underneath... nice thankyou

  • Oh so all you need is a piece of coal on top of a stick! To keep the creepers... at.. bay.. sssssssssssssssssssssSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

  • @ninjasnipe Thats a very nice fire you have there, it'd be a shame if somthing happened to it =O

  • @thejollyro sssssssssssssssssssssssssSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • @ninjasnipe kaboom??

  • ray is a great teacher i have a better under standing of the wild so thanks ray kool mears

  • bear has a membership for the hilton

  • nice

  • Ray Mears you rock!

  • i don't have a metal wond.

  • @ErnieCosmo He's using a fire flash, not a fire steel, different product. All of them take a bit of getting used to though and it took me a few trips to master using any type of fire steel. Keep on it.

  • Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "The fire of the children of Adam which they kindle is a seventieth part of the fire of Jahannam." They said, "Messenger of Allah, this fire is certainly enough." he said, "That fire is sixty-nine times greater."

  • Listen to this guy and take on board his wisdom because jumping down rocky waterfalls and emerging with a fish stuck in your gob is for that other plum voiced hollywood twat Bear Grylls (as if that's his real name anyway)

    Best fire video on here.

  • @misternylon agreed ;-P lol

  • @misternylon

Must be strange living in a part of the world where people have never heard of nicknames!!

  • @misternylon

    Bear is his nickname,

I see you've never heard of sarcasm either, wow.

  • @cameraguy1968 wow you're really cool i'm so impressed, wow.

  • @misternylon

    As you should be.

  • @misternylon yep ray is the real deal..very realistic.bear just does ridiculous bullshit, but thats what society is all about crazy nonsense Drama reality type shows..

  • @5tonyvvvv well, bear survived doing his crazy shit didn't he. Since he was the youngest person ever to climb Everest, when he did it. I'd say hes pretty fucking tough. I'd like to see Les Stroud do that.

  • @5tonyvvvv sorry I thought you were someone else writing about Les, but still, Id like to see Ray do that too.

  • @misternylon Quit whining like such a little bitch, I like both of them, but even I know bear grylls knows what hes doing. If not he wouldn't still be alive today. Dumbass.

  • @TheJoshy1992 being alive is obviously qualification enough to dupe a naive and gullible yank born in 1992.

    Keyboard warrior prick you. :)

  • @misternylon I'm English/Irish, living in Canada. I think the fact that hes done what hes done, including being the youngest Brit to climb mount Everest, more than qualifies him to do a show about survival. What have you done? Besides sitting on your ass trying to prove your smarter than everyone.

  • @misternylon

Just his name is enough to turn me away....

Ray is the real deal. He works with the nature, not against it. I think he also has the philosophy that he wants to do more than just survive, but live as well. That's my goal with camping...

  • @ihaveairlockers I understand there is a difference between bushcraft and survival but really we don't need characters like Bear to sensationalise situations because after all, survival is all about taking the easiest route that conserves energy. He has been shown to be a fraud on a number of 'behind the scenes' video clips, some of them within a few yards of a busy road in fact. I know who I would rather be rolling with.

  • @misternylon

Watching Ray is like watching Rick Steins. Calming, peaceful, relaxing, enjoyable, honest, humble, de-stressing, positive and enchanting.

You could say that Ray is like Rick, and that **** is like a different cook. No names mentioned, but you get the point.

    Cheers ! :o)

  • @misternylon bear grylls is better

  • @misternylon This guy is cool, but you don't have to act like an ass just because Bear Grylls is on TV. He's entertaining, and what he gives you good advice.

  • @misternylon his real name is edward. very english isn't it?

  • @dogfootrot189 I am going to give his new book a look though, I may have been a bit quick to judge although I judge not on his real life experiences or achievements but the way in which things have been cheapened and made action packed for television. There is a difference.

  • @misternylon fuck you bears my idol

  • @jake0the0muss Find a new Idol...

  • @jake0the0muss lame bastard

  • @jake0the0muss Yes and it's a capital B apostrophe S for Bear's (my idol) .. you have learned well from your master. Just the other day in interview he was quoted as saying "in the event of having nothing intelligent to say, simply resort to..fuck you"

    Well done my son.

  • @misternylon "In AN Interview" if thats how you wanna play if you dumbfuck

  • @jake0the0muss In interview is also correct in the English language.

NO I do not wish to play 'IF' and thirdly you trip yourself up again, dumb and fuck are two seperate words.

Get an adult to help you read this in between cheeseburgers and video games.

  • @misternylon Actually it is his real name, if you're so against Bear Grylls, maybe do something about it, complaining on youtube just looks gay and makes you look like a drama-queen.

  • @Mark10928 His real name is Edward.

  • @misternylon No... He legally changed it to Bear... So you could say his previous name was Edward, but his real name now is Bear Grylls...

  • @misternylon his real name is Edward Michael Grylls

  • @lptb13 tell it to gaylord mark10928

  • @lptb13 This isnt Bear Grylls, this is Ray Mears. Ray is a UK Bushcraft specialist, who trains the SAS and UK military. Bear Grills was an ex TA SAS and is totally different.

  • Is there any way of making your own fire flashes?

  • @BRFC4LYF1 Abit of flint and your knife

  • Comment removed

  • i love that man

  • We love a bit of firelighting. Latest trick that we been playing with is glycerin and Potassium Permanganate Keep up the good work!

  • Nice video, but what what utter tosh about not being able to collect firewood in the UK because of "Health &Safety". Political incorrectness gone mad...

Sounds like either someone has 1) been reading propaganda from the Daily Hate (sorry, Mail) or 2) been speaking to an idiot who has interpreted things themselves (i.e. made it up). There is a common misconception about H&S in this country. .Almost all HSE suggestions are guidelines, not law (p.s. I have 15 years working on safety issues).

  • That looks so easy:))

  • I like the set up and everything, but I really wanted to see how to start a fire if I was stranded somewhere and didn't have fire lighting equipment, except it be in the natural surrounding. Nevertheless good vid.

  • @blessedbranch Same technique, but instead use Flint if you haven't a fire lighter.

  • i will do it on a school field trip

  • Chuck Norris can light a fire by rubbing two ice-cubes together.
