Thanks for the video, but honestly, I would not call this an introduction more of quick peek at what views are. I did not learn anything from your video because it did not go from A to Z but more of Y to Z. It would be good if you could do an introduction on what a view is or how to get it started from scratch.
First of all, great video! learnt a lot from this. In my humble opinion, a little familiarity with Views is required, but great work. This module could get a lot done and very easily. Thanks! and your accent is seems fine too. Kudos!
"This is Roooob, at Leeeeaaaarrrrnnn Byyyyy thhhhe Droooop" is obviously dragging out your presentation so you can sell your products. But your products are probably like this presentation so I will never buy. If you prepare your presentation than you don't waste your listener's time saying "ummmm," "uhhhhhh" and avoid that thick swallowing and smacking gross mouth sounds that distract from whatever you're (not) saying.
hey learnbythe drop just for future reference you can open a new tab from a link by pushing down on the mouse wheel. If you have a laptop you push both buttons at the same time.
I think your videos are brilliant and so helpful and I appreciate them. However, you really should watch your mouth noises when you're recording, you do a lot of swallowing and smacking that sounds really thick and gross and it's making it hard to watch the videos. Just thought you should know, in case you didn't notice. Otherwise, great job and thanks so much for the help!
I don't know why you all talk so much about his accent! lol you're crazy, what accent??? Just to let you guys know, the world is a little more than USA, and there's lots and lots of people who just don't care about any accent once they're not from there, I'm from sweden and I love his tutorials! Please stop irritating him, what if he gets mad and don't wanna do tutorials anymore? we'll die!!
ps. thank you so much for this one, that's exactly what i was looking for.
I agree that it is inappropriate to critique a lecturer regarding the presence of an accent. By definition, we all have an accent that is peculiar to our place of origin when listened to by someone not of that region. I do find it interesting that you assume complaints regarding any accent come from the US as this speaker has a perfect, native-born mid-west American dialect. In other words, to an American he has no accent.
Also,,,,you can have multiple pages within a view. I thought that a view was a page. So, how can there be more than one page within a view. Is it a container for pages? Perhaps I'm getting confused by semantics.
I've watched a couple of your videos recently. They are awesome. I actually appreciate the zooming in, so you can see what's being clicked on. And please ignore that jerk criticizing you accent. I find your voice clear and easy to listen to. (And I don't mean that in a creepy way, LOL)
Anyway, keep up the good work. I'd love to see a tutorial on how to connect your custom Views generated views and present them in an actual menu or submenu.
You can do that with views. You want to create a page view with a "row style" of "fields". Then just add the title field in the "fields" section. You'll probably want to filter on published nodes and sort based on the posted date descending. Once you create that view you can then change the front page location in /admin/settings/site-information.
@valerymenelas I agree someone needs to explain this in baby language plain simple step by step hold us by the hand English... What is a view? Please define in simple language for complete novices like us!
Well the thing is, since you're inclined to make such an ignorant comment about something I took the time to create for benefit of the community, then perhaps my tone was just right for someone with your attitude.

Don't be so reactive johnny. Your accent and way to talk make me irratable but your work is great, so... who cares except me ? Shouldn't make sentiments on comments, just take it for yourself if you feel to.
Appreciate your work anyways. Sans rancune. Regards.
My accent is not something I'm going to change based on feedback I get on YouTube. It is what it is. So it's not really constructive feed back so much as it is a dig at me personally. And that I don't appreciate.

ok, that was rude, with no interest i admit. But i'm not an asshole so let met take that again.
This tutorial help me get rid of this headache Views gave me, it's good content and appreciated work. But i still think, in a constructive way, that you can get much better with talkin for doing screencasts. It's just.. irritating ! Hope you'll understand.
Please, accept all my excuses ; I guess internet let us free of being rude too much, but it is not a reason, for that i'm sorry.
Your accent is fine, nothing wrong with it. I've watched a lot of youtube tutorials where the voiceover person has no idea what they are talking about, or is so dry and stale you are snoozing by 1:30, and you don't have either of those problems.
Ah, but for developers who know xhtml, css, php, mysql, and jquery inside and out, and who want total control in building media-rich sites, drupal is just amazing. I've been into it for about a year now, built a half dozen sites and a few modules, and it's always fun and interesting. Every time I solve some new problem I end up with a module I can contribute to the community ... or back to other modules. It's getting better, so hang on.
Thanks for the video. Good topic and work. But my feedback is all that zooming around to focus on aras of the screen take away from getting a clear picture of what you are doing. Consider not zooming around so much in your next one please.
The software I use automatically crunches and zooms due to the difference in the size between the recording and the size it will be on YouTube. You can purchase a full resolution download on my website.
I agree that the zooming is slightly distracting, but it is infinitely better than showing the whole screen in a tiny resolution and not being able to read what the screen says. (some of you other Drupal bloggers could take notes). Excellent vid. Please keep doing what you're doing.

Are you from Australia? Sometimes I can't tell if an accent is Australian or English. Is American your native language?

The URL bit confuses me...'if you have a page view that is enabled for your view then you should see a URL here'...what does that mean?
That doesn't even show up on my install of views on Drupal 6. Also, how do I make use of my view.....how do I assign that URL.

So confusing!! I need help on this.
I just want to display the title of all my posts on the front page only.
But don't know how.
Can anyone help?

Thank you for the reply.
Unfortunately, when I began creating adding this I was receiving errors on naming the view.
Is there any chance I can contact you on instant messenger so you can further assist me?
thanks!

It's funny cos I don't have VIEWS option despite running Drupal 6. It's sooooo annoying to do the simplest things. Guess beggars can't be choosers.
