For now I am going to wish you all the luck in the world raising funds, and apologise for not donating this time. I work for a charity and am currently working hard to raise funds for them. You're doing brilliantly though. People starving to death or dying because not enough pure water is not the natural course of events. Thats happening, and we should try to help if we can.
Overpopulation is a bad thing yes, but thats not really an excuse to let people die.
Overpopulation is not the excuse. The fact that keeping them alive only makes the population larger, as they procreate wildly, and more resources need to be spent to keep there offspring sustained. Then the cycle repeats.
Currently, the problem is not that we can't produce enough to support them, it's that the resources are not spread evenly. The wealthy countries have enough resources to help these people, however much of those resources get wasted or hoarded. Did you know that it was estimated that the US alone trashed over 30 million tons of edible food every year? The problem is that it takes effort to distribute the resources evenly.
Compassion and love for fellow man makes us want the same for everyone on the planet. the right to sleep safe at night . the right to a good meal once or twice a day, the right to have medical aid when required. basic human rights. The things we take for granted.
The population in africa always grows until it reaches its limit. When we reach our limit what then? Catastrophe?
Capitolism prevents any kind of abundance in the scale we need in order to help. Scarcity drives economies, it thrives on it but thats for a different discussion. We either drop capitolism and lose our comfortable lifestyle to save the world or we do nothing. These kind of charities dont help the whole and never over the long term.
Lets say that for every african we save 4 are created. So we save 1 then 4, 16, 64, 256, 1024, and lets say that 4096 is your obsolute limit, that means 16384 die so you can save a total of 5461. When really only 1 needed to die. Weve turned a tragedy into a disaster.
This example is on a very small scale, imagine the reality!

Pretending that MSF does nothing but to keep untenable situations in a status quo is a gross misrepresentation of their work.
I dont have a problem with vaccinations or giving information. My problem is why are we keeping them alive. Its not for there benefit, its for our own sense of achievement.
Ultimately, if we improve there living conditions they will grow in population until all resources are consumed and the situation is worse. We cant stop or all those we are keeping alive will die. Its a cycle that has to break before we can truly help. Giving them things WONT help, it just increases the drain.

Compassion and love for fellow man makes us want the same for everyone on the planet. the right to sleep safe at night . the right to a good meal once or twice a day, the right to have medical aid when required. basic human rights. The things we take for granted.

Its a nice thought but very idealistic.
The population in africa always grows until it reaches its limit. When we reach our limit what then? Catastrophe?
Capitolism prevents any kind of abundance in the scale we need in order to help. Scarcity drives economies, it thrives on it but thats for a different discussion. We either drop capitolism and lose our comfortable lifestyle to save the world or we do nothing. These kind of charities dont help the whole and never over the long term.

Lets say that for every african we save 4 are created. So we save 1 then 4, 16, 64, 256, 1024, and lets say that 4096 is your obsolute limit, that means 16384 die so you can save a total of 5461. When really only 1 needed to die. Weve turned a tragedy into a disaster.
This example is on a very small scale, imagine the reality!
I dont have this view simply upset people, its just the facts as i see them. We need to break Africas "boom/bust" cycle first in order to really help.

Protagonist. For every person that is saved we take on the responsibility of seeing to it that appropriate sexual education is given and the means by which to carry that through. along with the tools to help build a better life , hospitals for health and schools for education so that the few that get saved can help the many that may or may not be born. You look on the bleak side , I prefer to look on the more hopeful side. we are all human we all have responsibility to the people of the world.

Your reasoning works in reverse as well. For every man or women we do not save, we lose an infinite amount of people. They could give birth to sons and daughters, and their family tree could go on forever. It is NOT the realm of possibility we should care about. Is it the here, and the now.

The land they live on cant sustain its current population, they are surviving purely in charity and they continue to have large numbers of children. There population grows until all resources are consumed (it always has) and were back were we started.
Those who were never born avoid dying of starvation or serious illness and there are more resources for those who live.
Birth control is the logical first step to solving the problem.

You're not helping them, only prolonging there suffering.
There is a natural reason why they're starving, there's too many people, the population needs to plummet, its quite simple math. We should just leave them alone. Everytime we interfere we make things worse, we bring more food/medicine they have more kids and were back to step one. We accidentally gave them the AIDS virus, if it had started in the west it could have been contained.
Its all leading to a major catastrophe i guarantee it.

What you propose isn't a solution at all, it's the complete lack of solution; it's defeatism and despair. Suppose there's a fire in the apartment block two streets along and the fire service can't rescue everybody - so should they therefore not rescue those they can?
There's billions of our fellow humans who need our help, and just because you can't help them ALL is no reason why you shouldn't try to help those you can.

MSF's main responsibility is not just food handouts, they have a broad range of actions, ranging from vacinations against deadly diseases, informaion on mosquito control, building clean water supplies and so on.
Letting millions of Africans die, it turns out, is not really an effective way of combatting tuberculosis, cholera, malaria or HIV/AIDS.
Pretending that MSF does nothing but to keep untenable situations in a status quo is a gross misrepresentation of their work.

I dont have a problem with vaccinations or giving information. My problem is why are we keeping them alive. Its not for there benefit, its for our own sense of achievement.
Ultimately, if we improve there living conditions they will grow in population until all resources are consumed and the situation is worse. We cant stop or all those we are keeping alive will die. Its a cycle that has to break before we can truly help. Giving them things WONT help, it just increases the drain.

Awesome. I too have been donating monthly to these guys for years. I truly like their attitude. In particular the fact that they do NOT try to milk specific tragedies for what they are worth. Wow, my respect just shot way up! My mother often denied donating to many charities that asked for money, but the one she said was the best, and that she did donate to, was, "Doctors Without Borders." This is a good move by DPR JONES ! I can't think of a better organization. Kudos to all trying to support and help it.
