@simmondsandrew the journo is Channel 10's Steve Quartermain (who is still there, he is now their main football commentator and does sport on Ten News in Melbourne)
I was thirteen then, and I remember what impressed me the most, was Anders Holmertz in lane eight- He was an all arm swimmer, never using his legs ....
Laurie Lawrence as crazy, but a great coach. Duncan Armstrong told a story of how a kid at practice was complaining of a sore shoulder. So Laurie drags his own hand down a concrete wall, shows his bloodied knuckles to the kid and says "That's pain mate. Now get back in the water."
Holy Shit, I'am going to the school he went too :DD
The same School as Haley Lewis as well.

Laurie was a fantastic swimming coach. But he had a few kangaroos loose in the top paddock.

1:06 left-handed slap to the journos face. Epic. Most of the precious journos today would have broken down in tears these days. Great swim.

@azasell9 You are right. I notice here that Anders Holtmertz didn't use kicks at all. It is unusual.

Duncan is a legend. Saw him at my church this morning! Amazing; shook his hand. This swim was a great moment in Australian swimming history.
