This year he's probably going to be nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor. Hope the pre-noms are correct!! He deserves it and I think Jake totally deserves a nomination!
When they play the theme songs back to back like that, it really shows that ATWT has THE BEST, it sounds modern (unlike Days) and without cornball crap acoustics (TYATR,GL)
Maybe I'm biased because I only watch ATWT, but uh..no I don't think so =]
Here's a treat that's unrelated to Nuke: a link to the greatest Soap Movie ever made. I'm too young to have seen it theatrically but wept as a kid watching it TV. It had a huge budget, glamorous stars, and was shot in many countries. The story spans 20 years and is based on the French play, La Femme X. You'll see many soap themes, including the famous twist at the end.
I compressed from 800 megs to 90 megs so watch in a small window.
Some people believe that homophobia was part of it. I'd like to believe that the Daytime Emmy people are more progressive. Their evening counterpart has embraced gay TV, giving multiple awards to gay-friendly shows like Will & Grace, ER, etc. And Ellen has won many Daytime Emmys. Then again, America is more accepting of lesbians than gay men.
Is it just me or did Jennnifer Landon lose a lot of weight between her last stint on ATWT and here? Loved Jesse's confused/happy face when she was speaking French :)
I noticed the same thing. Perhaps the ATWT makeup people made Jennifer look frumpy so that Gwen would seem more motherly? Jennifer looked fantastic here.
You know, I just noticed at about 3:14, when you can see all the nominees in their boxes on the big screen, Van doesn't look disappointed, he's smiling and applauding.
It's such a shame he didn't win, I really thought that he would. Next year perhaps? From what I understand, would it have to be a different category?

Van's category came early. I included the female category as well. Van and Jake present for Best Talk Show Host at the end. Look at Van's face and tell me what he's thinking or feeling.
2:00 - Van's category: "Younger Actor Drama Series"
7:11 - Van and Jake present the Emmy for "Best Talk Show Host" Both seem unusually stiff -- especially Van who is great at public speaking. His voice also seems hoarse
7:35 - Van: "Let your guest SHINE" I don't know if you can see it, but Van has very weird shiny cheeks. Was he crying?
9:26 - I was disappointed that gay activist Ellen didn't acknowledge the contributions of Van and Jake to the gay community. They were right behind her.
Van was at somewhat of a disadvantage because the Young Actor category is only open to actors 25 and younger. Since Van turned 26 on Sept 21, 2007, scenes airing after his birthday were ineligible for submission. That disqualified some of Van's best work, i.e. the hospital scene where a single tear streaked down Luke's face. Luke was paralyzed and his world was falling apart. His parents were separating and Noah was alienated from his life. Luke was in despair.
I like it that Jake at 3.28 looks just as sad as Van does at 3.24 when Van doesn't win, he sat next to Jesse. Make's you wonder who he thought should have won.
It might have especially tough because expectations seemed so high. And this was Van's last year for the "young" category. Plus Van sat next to his friend Jen Landon, who won her 3rd consecutive Emmy.
Yeah, I just watched last year's scene submission again and don't understand how Van lost then either. It was the tour-de-force airport confrontation against Damian. I remember watching winner Bryton's entry last year and felt that Van was the hands down winner. Then again, I'm hardly objective. :)
Oo la la, you're turning me on with all that French... :) Yeah, I thought it was strange since her father was the actor Michael Landon, known for his All-American roles in Christian dramas like Bonanza, Little House on the Prairie and Highway to Heaven. He died in 1991. He was half Irish and Jewish so the French is a mystery.

I thought it odd too that Ellen didn't acknowledge them. One would think she'd say something...
And poor Van. His voice seemed clipped and his posture looks stiff. He might be pissed or just trying to hold his tears in or something. I feel so bad for him.
I'm sure Ellen was on a high and wasn't thinking straight (pun intended), but it would've been sweet -- especially for poor Van.
I couldn't tell if Van was sick tonight or whether he was truly upset. He was the only nominee to not smile. Frankly, I can't imagine how he could lose again. Was it a bad choice of scene for submission? Well, in my mind, Jake later comforted Van with a hug, and one thing led to another and... :)
I don't think Van was visibly upset at all. I watched it live and my thoughts were the cameras caught his reaction at bad times. It didn't seem to me that he was crying or upset - If anything, maybe tired. Let down, I'm sure but I don't get the impression he was sobbing about it - that doesn't seem like Van's style. I do think he was ROBBED though.
I watched in HiDef, and have watched it repeatedly on DVD before posting. Many say that he was upset or sick, or somehow off-kilter; see the Luke & Noah Wiki. I was kidding about sobbing, but a few uncontrolled tears wouldn't be unusual if expectations were high. Nor is being upset.
As for the camera, there was no reason why the camera only repeatedly caught him being glum, but not others. And while it wasn't tears, I still wonder about that weird shine on his cheek
Also, to the Ellen thing - that was so, so not the right place to acknowledge what the Nuke storyline represents for the gay community. I don't think just because someone is gay (I'm not) means that every moment they're in front of the camera they have to get political. I hate it when anyone gets political at award shows. That's so not the platform. I'm looking for the day that honestly, it really won't matter to anyone anymore - and I'm glad Ellen was just herself.
Who said political? It was the perfect place to *acknowledge* but not to *preach*. Host Sherri *acknowledged* her acceptance of gay marriage and Ellen's lesbianism simply by joking. The Emmys are about achievements and ATWT/Van/Jake have been groundbreaking. A simple "Wow, I'm getting this from daytime's most popular male couple!" was enough.
Acknowledging appreciation, admiration or gratitude is hardly a political statement. Nor does a 5-10 sec statement like "you guys are great" constitute "every moment they're in front of the camera."
riboflavinb2, I'm not sure what being political means. Was Ellen kissing Portia a political act? How about wearing red, pink or yellow ribbons? They certainly make a statement but are they political statements? Is expressing admiration for taking difficult gay roles necessarily political?
Kissing Portia fine with me, that's not political, that's love. Turning around and congradulating Van and Jake on their roles would be political- that's not the place- the only thing ellen should have done is what she did do, thank her people, thank the fans, thank her significant other etc. Wearing a ribbon (any color) is fine. Van and Jake were there to be presenters- not anything else- so yes, expressing admiration for their taking difficult roles, in that setting would have made it so.
additionally - sometimes, making no statement at all is the biggest statement one can make - and I think Ellen handled herself just perfectly. Besides, how do we know Ellen's even a fan of ATWT? jk, I'm sure she is.
