I love the album - nice stuff - mostly rehash, yes, but a good tune is a good tune. It is quite interesting to hear it all with orchestral arrangements and no drums nor guitars... The bonus album has orchestrations sans vocals - which gives you a new appreciation for the compositions (they do stand on their own).
For one who is challenging Classical Music Stations (see NPR) to broaden their playlists to include more contemporary works, this helps prove my point... "All music was once new."
A classical music buff may have knowledge about what is 'good or not so good' regards the orchestral arrangements......but I just sat in the cinema and took in the experience as it came...and I loved it!!! Some songs shone more than others...probably the ones I liked more anyway. Pete's vocal delivery was excellent! I wish Kate Bush was there as well!!! 'Down the Dolce Vita' would have been a great addition too!!! Biko was POWERFUL!!! PG still shines...
Pure genius. I don't really care what scholars of classical music would have to say, because that is not what this is about. As usual, Peter Gabriel is marching to the tune of his own drummer. I wish there were more art
This is deep stuff Peter, and almost certainly bold.. because you tread a different path.., and that is no different than all of us do.. we share, but tread our own path.. the truth is ones own ,it defines what one is... History.. is what enabled us to be.. and now, those who share this path that you share... are here. its a very special path.. because it includes not only what was, what is, and what may be.. i thank you for sharing... isnt that what enables life?
This is an extremely interesting project. I can't say that I love all the new versions (perhaps I will with time) - but the energy and change brought to tracks like Intruder are fantastic.
Well done Peter. Long may you continue to explore music old and new.
@Whizzbizz believe me this is not good orchestration.
I've been a fan of Peter Gabriel since early Genesis. Saw him with them, and many times during his solo career. I have all of his recordings and have a great respect for him and his many humanitarian projects.
However, as a great lover of great music, especially classical, from Bach to Part and all points in between, I don't suspend my musical knowledge on sentimental grounds .
@jezzafox Clearly an opinionated man aren't you? Glad to see you fighting the fight, do you enjoy upsetting people may I ask. I suspect you do. Clearly a keyboard commando with a bad attitude. I suspect you struggle with personal relationships, shame, I guess the internet is the only place you get to interact with others.
@TLYtv2010 Opinionated? Yes, of course. I don't like upsetting people, whizzbizz comment to me is abusive and irrational. I simply laid some credentials on the line.
Keyboard commando? Who has the bad attitude? The one who resorts to abuse, or the one who remains rational?
As regards personal relationships your comment is ridiculous and insulting. Who the hell are you?
Put up a reasonable case for the poor orchestration or shut up!
I respect PG, but have the right to my unbiased opinion
@jezzafox Rational, I suspect not. You seem to be one to take pleasure in arguing for the sake of putting others down and it should not be tolerated by others. Your opinions are your own and welcome. Your way of putting it across is not. I shall not shut up because you tell me to.
@TLYtv2010 You are hoist by your own petard. You are argumentative, talk a lot but say nothing. In effect you have shut up by not bringing anything to the discussion. You've not even spoken of the music. The leaden arrangement of Solsbury hill for example. I didn't tell you to shut up. I told you to make a case for it.
@jezzafox So you claim to be ignorant of any harsh comments you have made. It is indeed very evident that you are in denial as you also claim to say you didn't tell me to shut up when the evidence is there for all to see. I suspect you take great pleasure from online arguments. I assume its the highlight of your day.
@OleVanDole Not many people of our age can sense or carry the weight of music like Peter's. I feel the same about it. I could not face the world's weight if I had not the music to outbalance it. Good luck! I hope the record will do us good.
@Steppeling I agree, I have all his songs on my iPod, from car to new blood, and of course all genesis songs from from genesis to revelation to calling all stations, i saw him live this june for new blood, people say I'm a 45 year old stuck in a teens body xD
Alguien por favor se compadezca y colabore con la traducción al español de éste vídeo por favor... Por lo menos subtítulos.

"...not even well arranged?"
I'm sick of this kind of bullshit comments. Do it yourself and tell me what's a "good" arrangement.
Peter is one of the rare artists who keep moving on and who CARE.
I can't say this of people like you, jezzafox.
Nuffsaid.
