The first one shows this just because we all wish to be a mermaid whereas ariel wishes to be us. The grass always seems greener on the other side I guess ;)

@xxladybug94 I think what they have in common is a sense of rebellion. Ariel was banned from interacting with humans, and so she wanted to be one. The same with melody. She was locked away from the sea and so it interested her. If their parent's didn't want them to change species, they shouldn't have been so strick.

I would have liked this better if Melody's transformation was just as dramatic as Ariel's. Also Ursula was a much more sneaky character and knew how to draw victory as hers easily. Morgana doesn't do justice. And I really don't like Melody. She's a complete spoilt brat compared to Ariel. Ariel wanted to see Eric and was fascinated with the human world simply because she was not judgemental of humans. Melody only went to sea for the sake of it.

@boffinme80 Melody is unlikeable because so little thought was put into her. The whole plot is "Melody wants to swim in the ocean but can't" as opposed to the original which focused on the curiosity of a world different than your own, finding love despite differences, learning about oneself and the surrounding world, so on and so forth. Melody was a failed attempt to be a carbon copy of Ariel, the same being said for the plot. It isn't "ironic" that the sequel is the opposite of the original.

I like the first movie best. I don't think they should have maked a second and a third. The first movie was wonderful! Dramatic, well drawed and had some of the best music i've ever heard. If H.C Andersen, who wrote the original fairytale about the little mermaid, was still alive, he would'nt have allowed this. It's about Ariel, not her daughter.
