Never her seen do this live and I've seen Chaka about 50x in person. She is on point for this taping...every note, inflection, phrase is equal to or better than what was on the CD. The end of the song is the best part...too too bad it was included in the taping for this show.
@oprahIV it was not this song but chaka's album that beat whitney's at the grammy's..This ong is about Chaka's personal struggle of finding herself and loving who she is.By this time she had been married twice and divorced twice drug addicted had gained weight and at one time lost her golden voice so this album was a comeback and it showed her growth and vocal excellence while whitney was singing about being someones girl with a blonde hair doo
@darkchococide Well I do not 'lack taste' as you would put it. I know a lot about music before my time and I can assure you my music taste is not bad. Old Chaka was phenomenal but this is just horrible.

can anyone tell me how the single DON'T LOOK AT ME THAT WAY did on the charts? The packaging was very anti-climactic as it didn't even have Chaka's picture on it....just a cardboard case with the name of the song......if anyone knows how it did on any of the charts (even Bubbling Under), please let me know....thanks
thank you for posting this.....I love this song, never seen a video or live performance (it seemed like a finally song for her tour of that time or any),,,I think this cd is her best solo in a whole, material, production, performance, etc "The Woman I Am"...I believe she won grammy(s) for this as well. I don't mean to offend, but as an international citizen myself, I think I understand why Chaka performs with a clearer comfort zone when outside of the US. The USA is a country so lacking in humanity and mental health, and is so superficial. Other parts of the world (often mis-portrayed by the American press), tends to have more human decency and decent people.
Americans appreciate image over reality. A young friend of a friend said he prefered studio performances of his favorite artist because she sounds better in the studio. This is the kind of public true artists like Chaka have to deal with in the land of the free.
I just finished looking at the you tube postings of Chaka in Sydney on June 14th and the postings of her in Syracuse NY from this past weekend. She is truly in better spirits and voice in Sydney.

If I was a musical genius who has influenced more singers than anyone (ever!)& can still outsing singers half my age who are more idolized & revered than I am I probably would'nt give my best effort in that country either!!! They have a name for that-It's called "Casting your pearls before swine" Chaka give your best to those who know your true value & appreciate what a priveledge it is to witness a true musical genius as well as living legend in their lifetimes!
