What made this movie great, was the fact that it actually disected humanity on a psychological and sociological level, and sarcastically questioned as well as mocked how shallow MANY people really are. Just look around you at how many women are hell bent on giving the ass hole chance after chance to hand grenade their lives and end up in a bar in their 50's crying "all men are A Holes!" while they simultaneously look for reasons to dump nice guys that are slightly less attractive...haha
I love the part when he tells the first lie ever in the bank. I wish it was that easy, to just walk into a bank and tell them how much money is in my account.
I just watched this movie. I'm not one to even think about promoting anything no matter how much I like it but this movie was awesome. I was once a jesus freak but I realized about 10 years ago that religion is exactly what this movie makes it out to be. The trailers I saw make it out to be about how this guy used his newly invented lies to improve his life but he does so much more than that. This movie made me cry my first real, run down your cheak tears, in almost 16 years. WATCH THIS MOVIE!

This is a good movie, it's a really funny story.... oh well not really funny.. But it is funny in a sense that the main character is living in his fantasy world where he could step on everyone's life without being notice. The whole story was a fiction, it was far from truth. If its purpose is to attack the beliefs of many people, well it's definitely a failure. But mainly, it suggests us how important the difference of white lies and evil lies.
It promotes how we should treat our love ones. People are not robots that are cold hearted. Maybe the movie suggests that these people on the "MOVIE" are atheist, they doesn't have creators because they act like a robot. How would you love someone without seeing how God loves everyone? Our parents love us, how they were taught by their parents and our grandparents were taught the same way and to Adam and Eve taught by our Creator.

On a more realistic note, this movie was incredibly true and funny. An experiment in which the human brain was built in a way that prevented it from lying perfectly executed, plus a bit of a love story to give it a story line.

The movies focuses one of the focal points in the constructs of religions-- our own knowledge of our mortality--- in which religion is used to provide emotional comfort along with compassion, very interesting.

the idea of the film according to previews does seem pretty good. However, the message of the film is not given in the previews. I won't support a film that mocks faith in God. That is my position, if that makes me close minded to you, than so be it. well, i watched the film last night. I feel that it is not anti-god at all, if anything it its pro-god. It shows that religion provides people with security and gives hope, despite being based on something that doesnt have solid factual foundations.

the main character decides to lie about God, or the Man in the sky by basically explaining away religion and God as an untruth. This then becomes the main focus of the film, and the issue of lying a side note. It's obvious the theme is the producer's soapbox for his atheist beliefs. It is clearly not pro-God according to any review I've read.
The foundations of all religions are beliefs and not proven facts. To say that religion is fact, would be to indeed tell a lie.
The film portrays the reason for coming up with the 'man in the sky' theory was to make his mother feel less scared about dieing. Therefore the film illustrates that the idea of religion is to make people less scared of dieing and to behave in a manner that allows order within society. so no, i wouldnt say that the film was anti-religious.

Blasphemy???? Let me tell you what blasphemy is. It's the idea there's a superior being who can make the mountains, the oceans and the skies, but who still gets upset about something I said. He's an all-powerful being, he's just got self-esteem issues. Grow up and get a sense of humour. Great film

Are you gonna compare slapstick.rubberfacehumor Jim carrey with genuinely funny Ricky Gervais? :P Expect a lot less farting joket and toilet humor then. The humor in this movie is actually through dialogue and not someone making stupid faces and joking about bodily functions.

Totally love the idea of this film. it nice to think that different ideas are making it to hollywood these days. i wouldnt call myself an aethiest, but i find it more beleivable than a single religion being 'the answer''. Stay open minded people! (esp Humbler25)

the idea of the film according to previews does seem pretty good. However, the message of the film is not given in the previews. I won't support a film that mocks faith in God. That is my position, if that makes me close minded to you, than so be it. (although, I don't see how that would) Anyway, the people have spoken - and the box office numbers show the movie is not being well received.

well, i watched the film last night. I feel that it is not anti-god at all, if anything it its pro-god. It shows that religion provides people with security and gives hope, despite being based on something that doesnt have solid factual foundations.
Could have fooled me with the failing box office, i have never seen the movie theatre so full as i did last night!

the film will struggle to make any money if you look at the box office numbers.
the main character decides to lie about God, or the Man in the sky by basically explaining away religion and God as an untruth. This then becomes the main focus of the film, and the issue of lying a side note. It's obvious the theme is the producer's soapbox for his atheist beliefs. It is clearly not pro-God according to any review I've read.

The foundations of all religions are beliefs and not proven facts. To say that religion is fact, would be to indeed tell a lie.
The film portrays the reason for coming up with the 'man in the sky' theory was to make his mother feel less scared about dieing. Therefore the film illustrates that the idea of religion is to make people less scared of dieing and to behave in a manner that allows order within society. so no, i wouldnt say that the film was anti-religious.

regarding profit, you have to look at production and marketing costs compared to box office... the movie will be very lucky if it breaks even, it looks to me like it will end up in the hole.

How is a film that mocks religious belief not anti-religious? If you read anything the makers of this film have said regarding what they believe, it is not hard to see what there intent is here.
They have every right to make whatever film they want, and I have every right to not give them a single penny of my hard earned money for it. Sadly, to you - that makes me close minded.

The worlds not 10000years old, there is no invisable man in the sky, Religion is just a way to keep order it's and control people. If 60% of America wasn't under to God delusion the film would have made alot more than what it made. But i'm sure Ricky was ok with $14mill BO and more in dvds

Ricky made an continues to make money on this film and rightly so, It's a funny movie.

Did you even read my comments? All I did was put out a viewer warning about the message of the film which isn't shown in the trailer. This movie could've been one I'd want to see, if it didn't have an agenda. I'm glad you and a few other people found a film they enjoy though.

If one is an atheist I suppose they wouldn't find anything wrong with an atheistic viewpoint. People should be aware of what this film is about though before they waist any money on it or support it. So, now I'm close minded, bitter, naive, and in denial - all because I say I can't support a film with an anti God message. im an actor and model and my talent agency in rochester ny told me bout the audition so I drove 7 hours to boston auditioned at velvet nightclub and they called me like like 3 weeks later and went back down for 2 days to film it, when i left boston i got another call from my agent saying I was going to be in bruce willis movie surrogates sept 25th! im excited it was awesome exp.
