Why don't you turn it to peaceful just so you can set your spawn? And you could just burn wood to get torches so mobs don't spawn on the roof.

@EmpGrevious You should just break a hole in the top of the spawner house thingy-majger and poor lava in, take it out, and then go in. Ever since 1.0.0, every block is a source block. So you can have infinite lava.

Grev mine the iron then grab some lava in a bucket, put the iron ore in the furnace and the lava bucket where coal normally goes it doesnt get rid of your bucket but then ull have iron stuff!
