Answering your question about the newer 18-200mm VR II, there is in fact a lock. However, it only locks at 18mm. But I don't see lens creep that much of a problem, considering you're probably holding the barrel anyway when you're shooting up. I'm sure you know this now though, looking at the upload date of this video.
There must be some variation with this lens. I love my copy. Don't expect it to perform like a fast pro glass but I think it performs well and it's an excellent lens for travel. I would rather walk around with this lens than my heavy 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 VR II. Those 2 pro lenses cost around $4000 combined vs $700 for the 18-200 vr.
THIS LENS is for the photographers who do not expect much out of their photography. IT IS an overpriced muddle of a lens. IT IS not sharp. Dull as a butter knife. Lens Creep, on older model. AND is a cheap plastic lens. Long barrel distortion. Nikon should be ashamed of themselves for such mediocrity.
@UFOSPACE1999 its not sharp if you dont know what your doing... ive taken alot of shots of birds at 200mm @ f6.3 to f8. I get pretty good result. as long as you know what your doing.. =)
Just one question, do you hear a click (very silence) from this lens before you shoot a photo when you leave the VR on? altho it doesnt affect the performance, cuz when I take a picture, right when I try to focus I will hear a little click sound coming out of the lens. if I turn off the VR, then there will be no noise. anyone please feel free to answer. I really want to know.
@ikezz 70-200 2.8 VR is better but 3x the price... If your just doing photography as a hobby and not really making money from it i would not recommend the 70-200 2.8 lens. unless you have the money to throw @ the lens' price... =)
18-200 serves as all around lens, like for traveling.. =)

I thought the II stood for the lens model, not the VR. Both lenses have VRII, but the 18-200mm II has the zoom lock. Other than that, great review.
