Pretty well done live performance. Have to give it up to Al, he doesent just do great paradoy videos and songs, he can actually really do it right on stage too.
Weird Al has been and continues to be the best thing to happen to modern rock music since the Beatles. Noone has done more to keep peoples musical egos grounded in reality than Weird Al.
sounds like "muffins seen 'em whipped" But "I've often seen 'em whipped but they just can't be beat" doens't make sense either. WHipped potatoes, sure, but can't be beat. I dunno.
I'm a little disappointed. I thought Al would have more stage shennanigans. Usually, he'll do more theaterical things than just stand there, and the potatoes would do more than stay in one place for such a production. I remember watching him on a late night award show performing Smells Like Nirvana for the first time. He's still amusing, of course. :-D
hehe, nice to see this up on youtube. I have a video tape with a bunch of tv appearances on it, and this is one of them. He does look awfully cute here.
"I woner if his band is actually in the potato costumes? "
Well, it wouldn't be the silliest thing his band has been asked to do, but those potatoes seem to have very... ladylike... legs. And they don't play their instruments very well either. I think they're just costumed dancers. But Al sure is is cute here.
The best part is that he got Robert Palmer's permission to do the song AT ALL, let alone to record it or perform it. That's the kind of professional courtesy I'd like to see happen more often in the music biz.
ya deputyindigo... even on his site he says that he doesnt have to get permision and if he got sued the law is on his side but he does anyway and there were atleast like 10 or 15 songs he couldnt do cuz he didnt get permision.. like peeps like the artist formerly knownn as prince and paul mccartney and stuff

Whipped potatoes, sure. But you can't beat them. They're the best.
Makes perfect sense.

Actually it's a pretty good paradoy performance of the video for the song he's doing a parady of.

The origonal vid featured women in the background performing robotic dance moves with the singer in the for ground doing not a lot.
leapoffaith20 2 years ago
Robert Palmer's? All his videos are like that (not counting the power station works, which are altogether different). Palmer's still a legend though.

The potatoes aren't even playing the instruments at all. Al's band is probably playing offstage.

No, I think it is a music-only version of the album recording and he's singing with it.
