  • The insight his lyrics convey is incredible - no words can describe the feelings or thoughts this song evokes - it never fails to bring tears to my eyes.

  • I remember buying this LP in woolworths upon its release, This song was often played as we fought in the Iraq invasion by Sky Tv yet never went anywhere chart wise!!! Shame....... As well as a 1st class song the album was 1st class too!!!! Ive since updated from the vinyl Album to CD

  • I LOVE this song. <3

  • I love this song

  • @ xwingclass...I agree...I wasn't around at the time of the way but this song and a couple of others on the 'listen without prejudice' album has been in my heart from when I first heard it and this is one of the tunes that gets to my heart....the feeling, the passion. I love it x

  • I remember buying this album in Europe in 1990 right before going off to the Gulf War. This song was more relavant than I could have known. It always bring back that surreal feeling of life on the brink of never being the same, for me and all the other soldiers I knew.

  • 1. i physically cannot listen to this song without bursting into tears, this is the second time i've been able to listen to it without running out of the room!

    2. it is one of the most beautiful but saddest songs i've EVER heard.

    3. who gives one if he's gay, haters are clearly jealous- he's famous, haters probably aren't even successful. BEING GAY IS NOT WRONG.

  • no offence but i could give a fuck less if the dudes gay or not, its his sexual life, not yours.

  • i dedicated a bunch of pictures to this song on my channel!

  • Fantasic lyrics, many mothers and fathers can relate to this song watching their sons go off to war..

  • That's the haunting single! You can simply imagine the actual video if it had been made!

  • outstanding, OUTSTANDING song writing

  • this sng is about boys to men going of to war. in wars gone by there used to be a parade through the town near the docks and the british army used to march past before going on to the ships. he is describing the scene. the album really needs to be heard with a good system. this was recorded pure Dgital at the time and it was beautiful. one the best albums ever i would put this in my top ten of all time easily the lyrics just are amazing.some would disagree but this was his best album by far.

  • @xwingclass I know ALL of his songs by heart, and I agree that this was his best album.

  • worthy of a re release bearing in mind the times we are in , but i would take out the d 50 panpipes , awesomely touching lyrics especially the all the husbands all the sons, all the lovers gone they make no difference

  • the vocals on this song just goes to prove how much george michael is the greatest male singer in the music world

  • @backoffthenet He and Freddie Mercury.

  • This is probally about George becoming gay.He is saying good bye to to his mother.

  • @rockerhogg are you kidding right with that comment. and when he wrote this he was not gay.

  • @xwingclass he was ALWAYS gay, he didnt just become gay one day lol

  • @scottsworld71 LOL you are funny with that comment read up on it and get back to me. i have been a fan of his since the wham days.

  • George michael and steveie b have the most beautiful voices. Better then most male singers!

  • a great great song....

  • Oh for crying out loud - this could be as much about an offspring nerd entering politics or a bank as about war. It's an heart rending song and it's wonderful. Don't feel bound to the motif - just let the song get to you. And then reflect.

  • I'm a huge GM fan and I cannot believe I've never heard this song before. Very emotive song indeed but then again when does George do a bad song?

  • @stl49erfan

You never heard listen without prejudice? i'm shocked :)

  • its about war...the loss that war always causae on either side. we should only grasp that and war is done with.

  • What is this song about? A mother losing her child? Or??

  • cival war and her son about knowing hew will join and pass away like his father must of.

  • I disagree with DIALOGUESLIB's comment. I may be wrong, but think that GM is not supporting the notion of war. I think he's lamenting the perpetuation of war in general, and toll it takes on families in particular.

  • i first heard this song in 94' and i fell in love with it. now i have my own sons and the song means even more to me. I cannot imagine how it feels to lose your children, it must be absolutely dreadful. God bless my 2 darlings.

  • the worst thing Ive ever heard from GM's mouth. This shit is good for stupid warrior folks like the american one killing himself for guys just searching to increase their money more and more despite of human losses invokating a this magic meanless word : "patriotism" !

  • The "warrior folks" in america have joined many wars begun by the europeans. Their ethnic hatred for one another has only been squelched by the entrance of the USA into WW1 and WW2. If not for the USA the Nazi's would still be trying to rule the entire world along with the empire of japan. b 4 u open ur pie hole shut it.

  • @robmoorept HA HA HA... Ethnic hatred for one another in Europe!.. Jeeeze what's America made up from?? And are you telling us there's no ethnic hatred there? Get educated you moron.....

  • @robmoorept

America did a good thing, right ... but it doesnt change the fact that they always do it for other reasons than saving people and lives/ they only did it for themselves ...

listen to the bob dylan song --> God on our side ... it is a rebelsong against the many wars of America.

Try to stay objective ... it is all about money and politics and power - never humanity!

And it doesn t change the fact that this is a powerfull and beautifull song - not pro war !

  • such a beautiful song

  • i get shivers listening to this, always have.

  • "He'll hold a gun till kingdom come". Very powerful words. A very poetic and moving song.

  • Thanks!!

    One of my favourites songs!!!

    Really beautiful!!!!

  • most of the songs in this album are very sad and I really liked that specially when I was 13 and till now....
