am i wrong -please correct me - the switches are up means they are off, right ? in the rhythm circuit and in the lead circuit it supposed to be off when the switches are up , right ?
When i bought a jaguar i ended up hating it and returning it to the store in exchange for a Scheter guitar. I thought the action of the strings was very high and i hated the bridge, the strings would often come off the saddles. Im reconsidering giving this guitar another try now because im a huge fan of the grunge era and so of course i see alot of jaguars in live performances. Thinking about saving up for the Jaguar HH Special, double humbucker, gibson style bridge, anyone try this guitar :)?
@conn0r1994 if you want a jaguar just for the looks go for the hh , ore a mim!(i think the have tom bridges), but if you want an accurate jag that feels like a real jag , go mij on avri, i love my guitar , i love adjusting her and making her sound perfect and the way i like , i think the more effort you put into something the more you'll end up loving it!!!!
I bought a new Jaguar in 1964. They were cheaper than the other Fenders at the time. They were never considered to be as good as a Strat or Tele in those days. I bought a Lake Placid blue one and I bough t aJag because I couldn't afford a Strat or Tele.
It's good to see that they are somewhat sought after now. I don't even remember what I did with mine. Probably gave it away when I went to Vietnam. I wish I had it back now.
just bought a 90s japanese jag second hand, the guy also gave me seymour duncan hot bridge and vintage neck pickups. im tempted to get these put in over the stock ones, anyone got any experience with them? also has anyone used roundwound slinky 10s on their jag and had any problems?
@heelmooiweervandaagL that's cuz their americans , now there are even mexican jags , i don't remember the name , but i'll try to review one soon! they are arround 500 if i'm not wrong , but look for a japanese or a mexican , specially if you've never had a jag or a jazzmaster before!
@AllReviewers Hey man, Aren't all american jags pre 1970? All Jags produced to my knowledge in the past 10 years are Japanese. The basses where about 700 dollars. Now they seem to have discontinued the model. But I did hear production was switching to mexico, along with the hefty price jump, Fender online are selling jags for 1200.. not sure why the price increase when they are being made im mexico for practically nothing on the dollar. Luckily I found a used one on Craigslist for 500 bucks!!
@JonnoThomas nop! there are american vintage reissues and japanese reissues , i don't like mexicans because they fucked up the original desing , americans do go from prices 1000 to 1500 there are even thinskin series i love them!!!! you can go here for more nfo in reissue models and any other jag model!!! mery x-mas!!! fenderjaguar(.)net/reissue.htm
@AllReviewers Oh, cool! My jag bass is japanese and I love it! It sounds like an american jazz to me. I'm so glad I didn't go mexican, they are ok but they just can't compare to american and japanese crafted fenders imo!!!
@jwahh there hav'e been jags scince 99 :s , they actually have avri jag in fender's catalog every year , they actually did some thin skin series not long ago , and you can find some good american jags for 900-1000 bucks , worth it if you ask me :)
@AllReviewers hahaha fair call mate - Do you know how hard it is to find a Jag in this colour with matching headstock - If i can find one to buy ill not need to buy another guitar again :) Rock on !!
yes it can be cranked out, but a strat is a strat , i found the jag a bit brighter , and the japanese pups arent as punchy in the bridge. i have a review of a strat and i play little wing , check it out , maybe you'll like that!!!! i love pearl jam by the way! and blind melon , i love grunge!!!!
use a higher gauge or get a mustang bridge ,if you adjust the tremolo and use your guitar frequently there is no reason for it to get loose, maybe the spring needs replacement because of a lack of use , try changing it or putting some o rings in the bridge so the spring gains strength. i think this is the best guitar ever built , but just as the best women it's a diva! you need to take care and love your guitar!
Good review. I love those CIJ guitars: I have a CIJ Jazzmaster and a CIJ Jaguar Bass (BEST BASS EVER). On my Jazzmaster, I use .12 gauge Ernie Ball Customs ("Not Even Slinky"). I had a bad slipping problem with the bridge saddle on the low E string, so I bought a Mustang bridge and substituted the Mustang E-string saddle only. Problem solved! The rest of the saddles for the ADGBE strings are the factory saddles and they don't slip.
not rally a good metal guitar!!! go for gibson for a classic sound or jackson dean ibanez etcetera if you like those crunchy thin sounds! this one gets a lot of feedback with hard distortions! i love the dirtorted sound but i have friend who love metal and hate my guitar hahah!!!!
Nice guitar, great playing and nice review, thanks a lot !
Where have you bought your guitar? I know where I can buy Sunburst ones, White Ones or Candy Apple Red ones but I have no Idea of green ones and so on...because your guitar looks Stunning ;-) Cheers !
this color is hard to find in cij , i found another one but with humbuckers , this guitar was bought at a music fair in germany and i'ts suposed to be kind of limited(i dont know for sure) the thing is i also want another one(its my fav jag color) and cant find one. i cant help u more than that , its a q serial , i hope you find one , and i hope i find anotherone hahaha
Great review!!! I have that same guitar in the same color. I changed the pick guard to an abalone one, replaced the bridge with a Mustang Bridge and installed a Buzzstop. I use 11 Flatwounds as this is what this guitar was built for and I love this guitar. So great to watch how much you care for your guitar. I understand that there is no difference in CIJ and MIJ, just Fender's decision to change the name.
the difference besides the name is the wood, first Japanese jags were made of basswood. that's the basic thing but yeah the name change was because they thought the crafted was better looking than the made heehe
the diference is the year they were made and the wood , mij are made of basswood i think , and cij are made of alder(wich i prefer) in the 90's mij became cij , i dont know very well the reason.
ahhh , and now you also have mim jags , wich i dont like , they stay more in tune , but you cant do that sonic youth kind of sounds! i'll ty to review a mim jag , but i've been ultra busy lately so i cant do vids.
when you changed the bridge to mustang di you have problem with the radius or is it already fixed..coz im worrying about the radius of mustang bridge to the neck of my fender jaguar japan..how about the intonation? and the buzzing of bridge is it gone? hope you can help me..thanks..peace
sorry for the delayed answer, but i have a lot of work and hardly can get to youtube, the mustang bridge fix perfectrly in every aspect when you change it you ahve to adjust the intonation which is not that hard , jsut remember to do it with new strings, the buzz will not desapear completelly, but for me the buzz is one of the great things about jags,if you want to get rid of it ,just get a buzzstop,i dont like them because they arent vintage accurate ,butneither is the finish on cij jags so..
hi thanks for the reply.. somebody told me that the bridge is the secret of the jag sound..so im gonna stick with it..and jag really is a great guitar once you find out how to play it..may ask if u are using multi effects?thanks
your local guitar shop if u order an american Jag its insanely expensive $1700 Canadian but in my opinion its well worth the expense cause the pickups have such hi input the sounds can last forever and if u get it with the classic bridge do what the guy did in the video change it with a mustang bridge cause the originals are too stupid to tune the action on.
hi , jaguars are special guitars, i have o say that not for everyone, the pickups aren't the best out there, try SDs. the buzzing bridge is a thing some people like, you can make the buzz lighter or even get rid of it by putting some Teflon tape(i don't know if its like this in English) on the bridge screws the ones that adjust height. if you don't know how to adjust a guitar try some help, you wont regret it, i hope you learn to love your jag , good luck
I bought that guitar a few months ago, and i think this is one of the worst guitar ever made..
The bridge buzzes a lot, the pickup sucks..
I wonder how did you overcome with the bridge problem, I've tried setting the height, even changing the bridge into Fender Mustang's bridge, but still i can't get rid of the buzzing sound..
this doesn't help very much on the clean tone play more like blues and jazz licks instead of hard-strummed chords or maybe arpeggios just my my opinion
i a great store in spain , they have some great guitars and a webpage auvisadotcom, it hink they ship worldwide but they are kind of expensive because they are just a little store.

Thanks for making the video, thats was nice of you. your actually one of the first things that comes up on google. but you do not explain well. Actually you are pretty bad. I dont know anything about the jaguar and after hearing you, I know the same NOTHING. Please speak better english. Let me help you. Go switch by switch FIRST, then play each. Again...I can not help much, because I dont understand most of what you said. I wish I could help more. TELL US WHAT THE SWITCHES DO - THATS IT!!
This is a guitar review, not an instructional video. It is supposed to show you how the guitar sounds. If you don't understand that, I think you have hearing problems, which might explain why you cannot understand his perfectly understandable english.
Because I am an Asian, I do not understand the words that you speak. However, I was able to take in you if the passion about this guitar was terrible.
i'm not very good at guitar. i really love the way the jag and mustangs look and i know that if i had it i'd be much more motivated to play but i'm not sure i want to drop that kind of cash. would a squier jazzmaster or whatever the cheaper version be alright?
if you're beginner it's better to begin with a cheap guitar becaus if you break it it won't be such a great lost and if you don't like the sound. Be careful the jazzmaster has diffrent pickups than de the jaguar !
i don't know if there is cheaper version than cij there is mim's now but i dont know the price yet. you really have to love guitar to buy a jag or a jm because there is a lot of adjustment involved and you can end up hating them , i recommend you the jaguar hh , it has humbuckers , but you wont have to take much care of her to make sound nice, the best thing is to go to the guitar shop try them all and when you find the one do lots and lots of research the try it again and after that buy her!!:)
if i were you , i'll go for the mustang , thats just cuz i love to have instruments as vintage correct as possible , i've never been a fan of fenders humbuckers and the hh has t.o.m.bridge wich i think should be just in les pauls :) i think that it all goes to the style of music your planing to play and how much you like to spend time on your guitar to make her sound great(that goes for cij mustang :s)
Mike, I have jsut bought a jaguar and wanted to know exctaly what the switches are for, you explained it proper so thanks! Very interesting review, lookinh fwrd to watch the others!
i was wondering if there is a way to tell if my jag is a japanese model or american (other than where it says "crafted in japan" since almost everything is) because i have heard bad things about the japanese model
i answered in another computer but i guess it didn't work, besides the crafted in japan the cijs have no muterocker , the dots are slightly silver color instead of clay, avris have 4 ply pickguards instead of 3 ply and the most important thing is americans have nitro finish , you can do a quick test under the pickguard with some acetone, cij dont have serial in the neck plate, if you need help or anything just send a message ;)
It's true that the original Jaguar bridge saddles tend to "buzz", they're just a little more sensitive and need a precise setup to get them silenced. But there's a piece called buzz stop specially designed to be mounted on Jaguar/Mustang/Jazzmaster bridges that eliminates the buzz by presing down the strings just before the saddles.
thats right the buzz problem and the string jumping from groove to groove is due to a light tension on the bridge, and the buzzstop shortens the angle from bridge to tremolo and that increases tension, i'm not a supporter of this device since i like my jags to be as vintage accurate as possible(i know changing the saddles for mustang brings this down lol) the thing is using higher gauges can solve the problem and you'll still able to do that sonic youth playing behind the bridge thingy :)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Why do you want them to be as vintage as possible? Especially as this can lead to inferior sound quality? There doesn't seem to be much logic in what you're saying...especially with this guitar.
i like my shoes to be all beaten up even if that makes the more uncomfortable , i like really old Volkswagen transporters even they broke every time and don't run at all i like 60's recording without digital remaster and listening to vinyl disks even they have that dusty sound , i doubt that a 60's pre cbs instrument has lower sound quality than any new fender instrument , the thing is i like vintage things and young women i must be crazy.
"i like my shoes to be all beaten up even if that makes the more uncomfortable"
So, basically, you're shallow.
Yes, while a pre-60s CBS instrument will sound better (generally, but not always...lots of idiots get conned by age) that comes from the higher quality control then etc. But actively putting a bridge that makes tuning worse is just stupid. It's ignorant and shows that all you want is to look cool. You're not a player, you're just making a fashion statement.
yes , i'm all about looking cool. the bridge doesn't necessarily makes the tuning worst if properly adjusted and using high gauges, and i understand and respect that you like your instruments to sound cleaner and be more comfortable than to look vintager.i saw your vids , you've got a nice tone. the good thing is that there is a lot of different things for different kinds of people out there.
Nonsense. I'm a guitar player and although I love vintage instruments, I would never actively downgrade my gear to be more vintage, even if it's harder to play or sounds worse.
hi and thanks, the main differences between AVRIs and CIJs are the nitro finish vs polyurethane the wax potted pickups and cts pots and the mute rocker, Americans are great , but more expensive , cijs are not that vintage accurate but some upgrades can make them perfect guitars.
thanks!!! i love pearl jam :) jags are for me like the ultimate guitars , they are so versatile that you can play almost everything, well not death metal and things like that hehehe , but when it comes to clean sound and light distortions they can do everything!!!
but i mean, like with the right distor it will sound cool? I'm deciding between a jag and a strat...i play more metal and hard rock (not getting into death metal xD) and also a lot of pearl jam and zeppelin...so i was wondering which would be more suitable
the jag pickups are similar to the strat pickups( not the same of course) the big tone difference comes from the 1 meg pots , by playing with the tone knob you can get sounds very close to strats, the thing is that japanese pickups are kind of microphonic and they tend to be very noisy with distortion , but a pair o Seymour Duncan or an american jag will solve that , strats and les pauls are great , but for me jags are the sexiest guitars on earth, thats just my taste dough :)
no no , the neck is really thin , is perfect for small hand , i have small fat fingers and the necks on this guitars jags and jazzmasters are the best i've ever played
wooow , thats a tough question, i think that there are all equally useful< but if you are modifying your jag you can takeout the cut or the hole neck pup circuit , well thats an option.
I think I'm just gonna put in the mustang switching system, with the on/off/phase for each, and with the on/off switches im gonna turn them into circuit bypass switches, so it can sound just like a Strat
Hi,nice jag! where did you get the guitar? via net?in wich coutry do you live? because i never found a cij jag e turquoise...fav colour in a jag.congrats
hi , thanks!! i got this guitar in spain , they had that guitar for like 4 years and nobody wanted her. the color is supposed to be like a limited edition for what the guy told me, they bought this guitar in germany in a music fair in 2003 , actually i haven't seen any other cij otm with matching headstock if i find another one i'll sure buy it
I've been considering buying this guitar for a long time, but lots of people have been tellng me jaguars have a very weak distortion sound, and im looking for a kinda of stratocaster-jimi hendrix- distortion sound.
hi!!! the same thing happened to me while buying this guitar people, think the sound is thin etc etc , the truth is that Japanese pickups don't handle distortion too well , the tend to produce a lot of feedback(and noise) this is easily solved , you just replace the p'ups for some Seymour Duncan or some Avri and problem solve, the guitar has 1k pots so is brighter than a strat , but by playing with the knobs you can get any sound you could imagine, i love jaguars, i'm changing my tele for ajag.
am i wrong -please correct me - the switches are up means they are off, right ? in the rhythm circuit and in the lead circuit it supposed to be off when the switches are up , right ?

sorry for the delayed answer, but i have a lot of work and hardly can get to youtube, the mustang bridge fix perfectrly in every aspect when you change it you ahve to adjust the intonation which is not that hard , jsut remember to do it with new strings, the buzz will not desapear completelly, but for me the buzz is one of the great things about jags,if you want to get rid of it ,just get a buzzstop,i dont like them because they arent vintage accurate ,butneither is the finish on cij jags so..

hi thanks for the reply.. somebody told me that the bridge is the secret of the jag sound..so im gonna stick with it..and jag really is a great guitar once you find out how to play it..may ask if u are using multi effects?thanks

your local guitar shop if u order an american Jag its insanely expensive $1700 Canadian but in my opinion its well worth the expense cause the pickups have such hi input the sounds can last forever and if u get it with the classic bridge do what the guy did in the video change it with a mustang bridge cause the originals are too stupid to tune the action on.

Hola, yo hace 2 años que vengo juntando el dineral para comprarme alguna Jaguar o Mustang, pero mi gran duda, el conmutador de circuito secundario tiene una gran utilidad?
Saludos
mein1313 3 years ago

romoo 3 years ago
hi , jaguars are special guitars, i have o say that not for everyone, the pickups aren't the best out there, try SDs. the buzzing bridge is a thing some people like, you can make the buzz lighter or even get rid of it by putting some Teflon tape(i don't know if its like this in English) on the bridge screws the ones that adjust height. if you don't know how to adjust a guitar try some help, you wont regret it, i hope you learn to love your jag , good luck
AllReviewers 3 years ago
I bought that guitar a few months ago, and i think this is one of the worst guitar ever made..
The bridge buzzes a lot, the pickup sucks..
I wonder how did you overcome with the bridge problem, I've tried setting the height, even changing the bridge into Fender Mustang's bridge, but still i can't get rid of the buzzing sound..

TELL US WHAT THE SWITCHES DO - THATS IT!!
namesean 3 years ago
This is a guitar review, not an instructional video. It is supposed to show you how the guitar sounds. If you don't understand that, I think you have hearing problems, which might explain why you cannot understand his perfectly understandable english.

i'm not very good at guitar. i really love the way the jag and mustangs look and i know that if i had it i'd be much more motivated to play but i'm not sure i want to drop that kind of cash. would a squier jazzmaster or whatever the cheaper version be alright?
willywonka091 3 years ago
if you're beginner it's better to begin with a cheap guitar becaus if you break it it won't be such a great lost and if you don't like the sound. Be careful the jazzmaster has diffrent pickups than de the jaguar !
adipal91 3 years ago
i don't know if there is cheaper version than cij there is mim's now but i dont know the price yet. you really have to love guitar to buy a jag or a jm because there is a lot of adjustment involved and you can end up hating them , i recommend you the jaguar hh , it has humbuckers , but you wont have to take much care of her to make sound nice, the best thing is to go to the guitar shop try them all and when you find the one do lots and lots of research the try it again and after that buy her!!:)
AllReviewers 3 years ago
It doesn't sound too pleasant.

What do you think of the Jaguar HH?I was thinking about getting either the HH or the Mustang 65 reissue.
popcornPWRsource 3 years ago
if i were you , i'll go for the mustang , thats just cuz i love to have instruments as vintage correct as possible , i've never been a fan of fenders humbuckers and the hh has t.o.m.bridge wich i think should be just in les pauls :) i think that it all goes to the style of music your planing to play and how much you like to spend time on your guitar to make her sound great(that goes for cij mustang :s)

I got a sunburst one! CIJ too. it's great. Definitely get it! U can just switch out the bridge pickup with a Seymour Duncan Little 59
and get an awesome tone and not lose that jaguar sound. That's what I got and it sounds amazing!

i was wondering if there is a way to tell if my jag is a japanese model or american (other than where it says "crafted in japan" since almost everything is) because i have heard bad things about the japanese model
jarmorgan 3 years ago
i answered in another computer but i guess it didn't work, besides the crafted in japan the cijs have no muterocker , the dots are slightly silver color instead of clay, avris have 4 ply pickguards instead of 3 ply and the most important thing is americans have nitro finish , you can do a quick test under the pickguard with some acetone, cij dont have serial in the neck plate, if you need help or anything just send a message ;)
AllReviewers 3 years ago
It's true that the original Jaguar bridge saddles tend to "buzz", they're just a little more sensitive and need a precise setup to get them silenced. But there's a piece called buzz stop specially designed to be mounted on Jaguar/Mustang/Jazzmaster bridges that eliminates the buzz by presing down the strings just before the saddles.
Youtubax 3 years ago
thats right the buzz problem and the string jumping from groove to groove is due to a light tension on the bridge, and the buzzstop shortens the angle from bridge to tremolo and that increases tension, i'm not a supporter of this device since i like my jags to be as vintage accurate as possible(i know changing the saddles for mustang brings this down lol) the thing is using higher gauges can solve the problem and you'll still able to do that sonic youth playing behind the bridge thingy :)
AllReviewers 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Why do you want them to be as vintage as possible? Especially as this can lead to inferior sound quality? There doesn't seem to be much logic in what you're saying...especially with this guitar.
DukeDe 3 years ago
i like my shoes to be all beaten up even if that makes the more uncomfortable , i like really old Volkswagen transporters even they broke every time and don't run at all i like 60's recording without digital remaster and listening to vinyl disks even they have that dusty sound , i doubt that a 60's pre cbs instrument has lower sound quality than any new fender instrument , the thing is i like vintage things and young women i must be crazy.
AllReviewers 3 years ago
"i like my shoes to be all beaten up even if that makes the more uncomfortable"
So, basically, you're shallow.
Yes, while a pre-60s CBS instrument will sound better (generally, but not always...lots of idiots get conned by age) that comes from the higher quality control then etc. But actively putting a bridge that makes tuning worse is just stupid. It's ignorant and shows that all you want is to look cool. You're not a player, you're just making a fashion statement.
DukeDe 3 years ago
yes , i'm all about looking cool. the bridge doesn't necessarily makes the tuning worst if properly adjusted and using high gauges, and i understand and respect that you like your instruments to sound cleaner and be more comfortable than to look vintager.i saw your vids , you've got a nice tone. the good thing is that there is a lot of different things for different kinds of people out there.
AllReviewers 3 years ago
Hmm. Fair enough. All I can say is that it's a case of "each to his own." And we'll leave it at that. Friendly :)
DukeDe 3 years ago
it gives us a good feel.
Heartshapedbox088 3 years ago
Nonsense. I'm a guitar player and although I love vintage instruments, I would never actively downgrade my gear to be more vintage, even if it's harder to play or sounds worse.
DukeDe 3 years ago
Would you happen to know a good place to pick up a CIJ Jaguar? I love the color matched headstock and the new Fender Re-issue doesn't come with that.

awesome review. I have to ask though, Are there any differences in quality between the U.S. reissue and the Japanese one?
dominizzle724 3 years ago
hi and thanks, the main differences between AVRIs and CIJs are the nitro finish vs polyurethane the wax potted pickups and cts pots and the mute rocker, Americans are great , but more expensive , cijs are not that vintage accurate but some upgrades can make them perfect guitars.
AllReviewers 3 years ago
MAn a jaguar and pearl jam...dude im your fan lol! STATE OF LOVE AND TRUST xD...What genre is more suitable for jags?
Phol666 3 years ago
thanks!!! i love pearl jam :) jags are for me like the ultimate guitars , they are so versatile that you can play almost everything, well not death metal and things like that hehehe , but when it comes to clean sound and light distortions they can do everything!!!
AllReviewers 3 years ago
but i mean, like with the right distor it will sound cool? I'm deciding between a jag and a strat...i play more metal and hard rock (not getting into death metal xD) and also a lot of pearl jam and zeppelin...so i was wondering which would be more suitable
Phol666 3 years ago
strat would be better for you.... a les paul would be better really
brundontfreeze000 3 years ago
the jag pickups are similar to the strat pickups( not the same of course) the big tone difference comes from the 1 meg pots , by playing with the tone knob you can get sounds very close to strats, the thing is that japanese pickups are kind of microphonic and they tend to be very noisy with distortion , but a pair o Seymour Duncan or an american jag will solve that , strats and les pauls are great , but for me jags are the sexiest guitars on earth, thats just my taste dough :)
AllReviewers 3 years ago
IS the neck really thick? I have small hands and I own a C neck strat that I can barely handle.
gslopez30 3 years ago
no no , the neck is really thin , is perfect for small hand , i have small fat fingers and the necks on this guitars jags and jazzmasters are the best i've ever played
mikedm15 3 years ago 2
Im getting a Jag =). I think i wanna put a phase switch in it, which switch do you think is least important/you could do without?
Leftyguitarplayer123 3 years ago
wooow , thats a tough question, i think that there are all equally useful< but if you are modifying your jag you can takeout the cut or the hole neck pup circuit , well thats an option.
AllReviewers 3 years ago
I think I'm just gonna put in the mustang switching system, with the on/off/phase for each, and with the on/off switches im gonna turn them into circuit bypass switches, so it can sound just like a Strat

HEy you do look kinda like jimmy page haha.
I've been considering buying this guitar for a long time, but lots of people have been tellng me jaguars have a very weak distortion sound, and im looking for a kinda of stratocaster-jimi hendrix- distortion sound.
Do you think id be able to get it easily?
(I have a marshall DFX 100 amp)
axeoftheaxe 3 years ago
hi!!! the same thing happened to me while buying this guitar people, think the sound is thin etc etc , the truth is that Japanese pickups don't handle distortion too well , the tend to produce a lot of feedback(and noise) this is easily solved , you just replace the p'ups for some Seymour Duncan or some Avri and problem solve, the guitar has 1k pots so is brighter than a strat , but by playing with the knobs you can get any sound you could imagine, i love jaguars, i'm changing my tele for ajag.
