Thanks so much for posting this! I'm a huge "Star Wars" fan - it's been my favorite movie ever since I was a little kid. An interesting bit of trivia, and something that other "Star Wars" fans have not commented on: The original 20th Century Fox logo at the beginning of "Star Wars" was an older version with the "0" in "20th" having a slant to the right. It was replaced with the "newer" version seen here for this TV airing for some odd reason. Not sure if anyone else noticed that.
I think it's pretty cool. It's a very good promo, It feeds the fans excitement to finally see this on tv. I knew only one person who had a vcr when this was on. I had no idea that very soon, the world was about to be invaded and conqered by vcrs. As years pass, Thses old clips will be a gold mine to the past. In many persepectives. Thanks for uploading this.
@cartoongameshowman - I did not know that, but I do recall seeing it on USA in the early 90s. This was the only "Star Wars" film I've seen (I'm not a fan), and the only reason I had to was because my older cousin was watching it on my grandparents' TV, and the other TV was on the screened-in back porch...and it was winter.
Alisson, what year was this video recorded? It can't be 1978 if it said "A New Hope". That didn't come out till the 1981 re-release. In fact I don't think the film was ever on T.V. till the 80's.
@MinusIce - It did say "A New Hope." I did watch the beginning of the movie when I was getting the commercials. I'm not a Star Wars fan, so I was only looking for the commercials. I'm sure someone has that epic crawl somewhere...
I just chose to feature the commercials that aired during this airing, not the actual film itself.

YEA!! I miss the New York stations - I live in South Jersey now, too far south to receive the stations, and now have to make do with the Philly area stations.
My parents taped this off CBS too. From the other videos you've uploaded with the commercial breaks, I knew that my parents taped it the same time your grandparents taped it. I think it would be cool if you, AllisonTheSNLGuru, upload this Star Wars Pre Movie Commercial with that old CBS movie opening with it, if possible.
I wish I had more to show of this, but my aunt and uncle (who taped it, and later gave it to my grandparents) didn't start the tape until the point where the video began,
Don't know - this isn't my tape - my dad found it in my grandfather's house back in early 1997, and it sat in a cabinet until 2007, when I dug it out.

In addition to the visual change, they replaced the original late 50s recording of the Fox fanfare with a newer recording for this broadcast.

Allison, why can't you post the entire video on youtube? I would have liked to see the title crawl which I believe said "A New Hope"

If CBS aired Star Wars, did they also aired Predator, The Fly, Big Trouble in Little China, etc before Fox aired them?
