so do you have to unlock all the characters? do you have to play the stages in other modes to be able to play them in free battle? or is everything unlocked from the start?

what do the stars next to the stage's names represent/stand for?

@bLaCkAnGeL1010 The stars represent the stage difficulty.

for example. when you play on normal difficulty

1 star stages are the easiest and stages with 5 stars the hardest.

however a 4 star stage on easy difficulty is a lot easier than a 1 star stage on hard difficulty.
