I've been knitting this way since I was 7 and was taught by my mother. My family is of Austrian descent but were raised in Yugoslavia. I always thought it was a modified continental knitting. I find it faster and easier than other methods of knitting and have taught my daughter-in law, cousins and my granddaughters this way of knitting.
I have a question and I hope that you can answer...I Knit and Purl through the Back...the yarn always stays in the back...if there is a stitch that says Knit Through Back Loop...what do I do? do I Knit Through The Front instead...because I don't think it will make a difference if I Knit In The Back Loop...since I Knit that way....

This video is posted for readers of my book "The Book of Russian Knitting".
If you follow the book, when you purl in rounds you would keep the yarn in front and insert the needle exactly as shown in this video - through back.
