I'm interested to know the meaning of the ceremonial dance the boys perform before the fight? Even for such a junior bout they take it very seriously.
@devilswhipboy: that dance is called "Ram Muay" or Wai Kru. Its a non-religious traditional dance that pays respect and homage to the gym or "dojo" they hail from, their Muay thai teacher, and to their parents.
The dance differs from gym to gym but there's a basic template. It's also a good way to warm up and demoralize your opponent with a good performance of the dance
i think it has to do with the dance style! its tippicle thai so i cant really answer your question, maybe he asking the goodspirits to join him or something
@Quakepunk its a tullband that is blessed by monks, so that the fighter who where this will be protected in the fight, almost the same as a coin for good luck but then diffrint
Mong Kon in Thai means something prosperous or with a good bless. Its name already tells how important it is. In ancient time, Mong Kon were worn on soldiers heads before they went out to the battle. Today its used in Wai Kru before each Muay Thai match.
@Quakepunk - I guess he is shooting arrows at the opponent, he picks up the arrow, waves it in the air and then shoots it at the opponent. Misses and tries again and hits...then he goes and and gets his opponent and buries him...I know...not very nice..but this is how I understand it. :) Sometimes the opponent will pretend to catch the arrow and stamp on it, in this case he just ignores him and lets him do his thing.
i wonder what it looked like when they went over the top rope
